Hilda Ogden cries over Stan's glasses (28 November 1984)

One of the best ever episodes of Coronation Street, Stan Ogden's funeral.
After the service, Trevor (Stan and Hilda's son) makes his journey back home leaving Hilda all alone. Ivy and Vera are talking about the funeral and Hilda's lack of emotion and Vera absurdly questions her sanity for not crying. All alone, Hilda unpacks the parcel of Stan's belongings from the hospital. When she sees the glasses, and no eyes behind them, she finally breaks down as Stan is no longer here. Part of the end credits rolled in silence as 20 million people cried with Hilda.
Some of the most beautiful and incredibly acted scenes on British television. Jean Alexander won a RTS award in 1985 for this and well deserved. Should've won a BAFTA I feel.
We see a very depressed looking Bet here too. She has just been dumped by Tony Cunliffe, a policeman boyfriend who was also going out with Rita.
