The 70s and 80s were superb.
All the storylines nowadays are based around "if you've been affected by any of the issues raised..." events like domestic abuse, mass murder, tram crashes...it's just ridiculous.

Great acting. Mixing humour and real emotion. Love the late 70s and early 80s period
They replace parts with different actors in soaps, but there are certain roles you could never do that with and Violet Carson could only ever have played Ena, just as only Hilda could be played by Jean Alexander. June Brown is another one, no other actress could play Dot Cotton. Ena, Hilda and Dot Cotton are characters, they dress in the same clothes and instantly this becomes one of their trade marks. Loved Ena in this scene "Parky out Mrs.Ogden".
The half naked man at the window was the closest thing to raunchy the show got back then.

The language is rawer. It’s so like what I remember from the time. Jean Alexander was fabulous as Hilda.

Dread to think what happened to the woman at 19 Inkerman Street after the man closed the window, having just heard about Stan! "Right, you! Who's this Stanley Ogden then?!" (Actually, wouldn't the man being there have made it obvious to Hilda that Stan WASN'T there?!)
