      She is indeed. But since she is still an active player on tour, ofcourse winning is very important. Why the hell would you train and travel and play constantly if you wont win anyway.

    We don''t have to bring it up everytime Venus lose or wins. If she wins it's because she works hard for it. If she loses then let's give credit to her opponent. To Kerber congratulations well done!

    Venus is so inspirational because she is the true athletes story.
    What happens to an athlete when they age? Every commentator says things like “vintage Venus” or “sensational at her age”..... NO..... Venus may be a different player than we she was younger, but that doesn’t mean her current worth as a player is solely based upon her ability to play the way she always had. She has adapted to new strategy, new strengths.
    Athletes age and everyone talks about retirement and when to quit, but athletes often have 1 true love, and that is the game. If Venus didn’t love tennis, she’d retire. She has money, she isn’t playing to sustain herself.
    Why is the conversations always about retirement, she will retire when she’s ready. But for right now, she’s still dispatching the highest quality players and is still a force to be reckoned with.
    So she’s suppose to retire because she’s 38? Does she get to play longer now in your eyes because she beat Kvitova?
    Love you Venus and hope you keep playing until your heart is content and I will continue to enjoy watching your matches

      I agree Kerber did have some bad luck with those recent matches. I think Kerber has had to figure out how to turn her more defensively inclined style to offensive. I think Kerber has done a fantastic job of stepping up here game. I think that if Kerber added a more dangerous serve to her game, it would take her to No 1, along with this more aggressive playing style.
      We will find out how Kerber truly stacks up when she plays Azarenka and Serena, the two who have always proved to be a mountain to climb for Kerber

    • @17sunnyhour
      @17sunnyhour 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Dylan ATC
      Actually Kerber tends to behave like Venus is a crappy unknown player. She wonders why Venus even bothered showing up! Kerber has no issues with Serena, she simply plays her best ever tennis like all the girls do when playing Serena. I don't know how she plays aganist Azarenka.

    • @dylanatc8789
      @dylanatc8789 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      17sunnyhour
      Interesting point, I see. I think it’s because they know Serena will come at them aggressive and pushy. That’s not Venus’ style anymore. Venus is aggressive and she is smart, but because she isn’t wailing on this shots and putting them close to the lines and making them flatter and faster, these other girls know that they can keep up. And that is nothing against Venus, I love her, but there is a safety in knowing your opponent isn’t going to crush balls like Serena, Vika, or even Pliskova.
      When Kerber played Collins and was annihilated. Kerber didn’t even get to play, Collins never gave her an opportunity.
      Now that Kerber knows that’s not going to happen, I think that’s her comfort zone, she knows she has the consistency, the court movement, and the stamina to grind it out with Venus.
      I think she had a positive game plan for this match with Venus and I do think she deserved it, she’s been in good form thus far this tournament.
      The reason I brought up Vika and Serena is because they both play with the style that has trumped Kerber.... that being bludgeoning aggression. Serena has more of the ball striking and Vika has more of the court movement and defense, but both play very aggressive and play with lots of pace and power.
      I think if Serena and Vika hadn’t played so early, both of them could’ve met each other in the finals (assuming Serena hadn’t fallen ill). Vika in good form is dangerous to ANY player on tour, including Serena.

    Good job to Kerber for reaching another semifinal this year, and good job to Venus for playing a smart match despite being injured. Best of luck to both in the next couple of tournaments.
    In my humble opinion, this could’ve been a three set match had both been at 100%, but, as Pumba from The Lion King would say, you gotta put your behind in your past.
    So, on we go.

    • @17sunnyhour

      Why wasn't Kerber playing this type of tennis against Danielle Collins and then again in Doho against Elise Mertens?

    • @RaphaelBas1995
      @RaphaelBas1995 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ach nix Possibly, but I think Venus was operating at a much lower capacity from the start. I think if she hadn’t been injured, this match could’ve been much closer. As it was, with her serve and movement hampered, it was still pretty tight.
      But still, the match is over, and on we go. What are your thoughts on Kerber vs Bencic?

    Originally and until the tiebreak I preferred Williams to win because I like that she is still on tour. But Kerber clearly deserved to win. She played more intelligent and was way better aware of the specific situation and (re)acted extremely good. Williams has the better strokes, but Kerber has the better match intelligence.

    Venus did not adjust her approach because Kerber is that good, she adjusted her game because her knee compromised her game. I have watched this woman play for twenty years now, and she is still improving from one tournament to the next, and when you can beat 90% of the professional woman playing tennis today on a bad knee, and a wrapped arm, and the number one player this year. Kvitová is the number one player leading up to the year end championship. Why would Venus see this quarterfinal match as anything other than a victory or aspirational?

  • @cameronrobertson2973
    @cameronrobertson2973 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I’m hoping with all my heart that these injuries, ESPECIALLY the knee injury, heal. Venus’ groundstrokes don’t seem to be affected by the arm injury, but her serve is. The most important thing at this point is for the knee injury to heal. If Venus’ knee had been healthy, I honestly think that she would have won. She played a great match with two injuries against the world number 8, imagine what she could do when healthy 🙏🏻

    Wether venus was injured or not a Kerber still had to do the work and hit the winners, I don’t think Poehler realise that it’s almost harder playing against an injured players, you over complicate things and easy shots are now harder because players tend to aim at lines thinking they need to, and also when players are injured they are way more dangerous because they can hit freely and hit the ball with no pressure or expectation, and especially Kerber who is a counter puncher.

      Considering at her age she is still beating players such as Kvitova means she can retire when SHE has decided its time to retire. What’s the difference between her continuing to make it to 4th rounds or quarters and mediocre players who stay ranked 150 in the world and stay there for years. They should retire as well because obviously they can’t win on an elite level.
      These athletes play because they love the sport, Venus has enough money, she doesn’t need to prove herself anymore, she plays for the love of tennis.
      Understand what you just said, “queen of the quarters”
      There are so many younger players who can’t do what she’s doing, who cares if she doesn’t win, that doesn’t prevent her from going 4 matches deep and dispatching quality players.

      LG, I'm not sure why anyone should dignify your insolent comment other than to say you just don't get it. She's an inspiration and if she is only playing just for the joy of the game than that is all that matters. She is still very highly competitive despite having to deal with Sjogren's Syndrome and competitors nearly half her age. She beat Kvitova in the 3rd round, a player who leads the WTA in wins and points accrued, who was a finalist a few months ago at the Australian. Sure, her reduced schedule and perhaps slight loss of power might contribute to her lessened success, but she can still compete with the best of them on any given day. Give her credit. She is gracious in victory and defeat, does not make excuses and inspires many around the world. I suggest you retire from making comments again until you discover a level of maturity that won't embarrass yourself or your family.

      Very true, Kerber seems to ONLY wait for the William sisters, namely Venus. She was recentely dispatched by Danielle Collins and Elise Mertens so her power is limited.
