  • Rowston Level Crossing, Rowston, Lincolnshire on the Peterborough to Lincoln Line.
    Location: Main Street, Rowston
    Date Filmed: 27-08-2020
    -
    Nearest Station: Ruskington
    -
    Trains:
    Class 66 (GB Railfreight)
    -
    Featuring:
    ‪@JTCrossingsUK‬
    Also known as Rowston North Level Crossing.
    Freight train filmed just before midnight, around 23:50 (11:50pm), on the evening of 27th August 2020. Rowston is located between Ruskington and Metheringham stations, south of Lincoln. The area was very quiet at this time, and the freight train could be heard approaching from quite a distance away, even after it had passed. This is probably the latest time I've ever filmed at.
    Thanks For Watching!

    0:19 - what is that black arm sticking out from under the wigwag lights? (Sorry - I have this sinking feeling I've gotten an answer to this already and forgotten it.)

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a crossing light camera. At the end of the black rod there is a small camera which points towards the lights. I believe they're used to confirm the crossing lights are working correctly if they're ever monitored.

      This crossing isn't actually very old, the equipment dates back to 2014. The gates are not wooden but are metal but my camera makes it look like it's wooden 🙂

    Why are the lights offsync when they flash?

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some crossings have lights in sync but a few crossings, especially newer installs, have lights that flash independently from the other. I'm not too sure why

    If anyone lives near this level crossing (or any level crossing that is activated some time at night), it must be annoying to be woken up in the middle of the night by loud alarms, bright flashing lights and a very loud train!

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sure the majority of people living beside the railway will get used to the noise over time.

    • @Sarah_270
      @Sarah_270 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't hear any alarms, or constant honking from the train. It was all quite quiet. It wasn't a loud train either, it just passed through. This isn't the US. we don't need to make a big drama.

      Sam Waddingham They look old but they were actually only installed in 2014 as part of an upgrade here. My camera and the sounds make it look like they're old though so I could understand.

      @Alvin Huang The barriers are S60 designs manufactured by Siemens and Invensys. You can see them in the day at Blotoft crossing which I uploaded not long ago

    What is it with British crossings giving such a preposterously long advanced warning? How many vehicles actually break down over the crossing?
    It must be such a ridiculously tiny number...

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The time before a train arrives depends on the type of crossing in the UK. There are automatic crossings with half barriers and without any barriers which don't involve any signalling, with the train arriving around 30 seconds after the initial sequence begins. The crossing in the video, however, is a full barrier crossing. With these crossings, they must be confirmed clear of any obstructions before the train is allowed to proceed past. As a result, the train is usually a couple of minutes away by the time the crossing is lowered and the signals have been set to proceed. This sort of monitoring prevents trains proceeding over crossings when vehicles have no means of exiting the crossing and tracks. The automatic crossings with or without half barriers allows vehicles to clear the crossing without getting trapped. Hope this helps.

      It's called safety, and it is a minute at most. At least we don't need to persistently sound horns and bell ringing for idiots who don't get a train is approaching
