    Nice video.Ive just purchased one and have had it running for about 5 days now.We dont suffer from mould but live by the sea so the air is always humid.My wife suffer's with breathing problems and cough's most nights keeping us awake,so im very glad to say that this machine has - touch wood at the moment at least, improved her breathing and we are both able to sleep. Only woken up when the machine switches off when it reaches its 55% then back on half hour later.Its also reduced the number of woodlice wandering around the place as its now much dryer. I hope this continues to improve as we have to weigh up the cost of running it to its benefits.All good so far though.

      Thanks for the kind comment Graham, sounds like it's really drying the place out!!
      I'm sure you know this but just in case, I'm sure you know that pressing the drip button means you can set it at a lower % humidity or even continuous where it says CO on the display.
      That's amazing about the woodlice.
      We're weighing up the costs because it is really significant - it's pretty much increased our daily electricity by 50%(!) but we're using it now to dry clothes which drops the tumble dryer use, and dehumidifies the house at the same time...
      Anyway, thanks again for the great message, really appreciate it.

      What is the noise level can I keep it in my bedroom at night, or is it to noisy

    • @grahammitchell6435
      @grahammitchell6435 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes it's fairly noisy ,it'll certainly wake you up when /if it reaches it's setting as it suddenly goes quiet, then your waiting for it to come back on so dont expect much sleep! It's similar to a large fan used in the summer months and it doesnt make any difference if it's on night mode,its still noisy.

    Nice one Dad, well presented and honest review, many thanks for your time and effort. Just bought the 20L and I am amazed at the amount of moisture it pulls out of the air. All I have to do now is convince the wifey that the tumble dryer in my humble opinion is old technology, maybe "save the planet " rhetoric might work. Wish me luck ❗Cheers.

      Haha thanks Baz and YES! Literally had that same thought this week and we're now 2 'loads' into the Meaco drying them.
      Think, with my dodgy maths, it's about half the cost AND it dries out the room/house at the same time! I find the save the planet plea only works on some things!

    Hi, thanks for the very informative video. I have just bought the 20L Meaco Arete One :) Please can you advise if it is suitable for dehumidfying a 2 storey apartment? And if so, where might be best to place it? We are like you, in that the worst affected areas for mould is the bedroom, so it would make sense to put the dehumidifier in the bedroom, however i am worried that this will make no impact on the remainder of our property humidity levels. Thanks

    • @DADDELIVERS
      @DADDELIVERS  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the kind comment Carla!
      Yes - we have a 2 storey house. Most of the time we have it in the downstairs hallway and now use it for laundry, so wheel it to be closer to the laundry racks when needed. We got lots of water coming out in the first few weeks, but now it takes a couple of days to fill up.
      From time to time, I put it in the bedroom for a day with the door closed to dry out the room, but having it in the hallway seems to bring down the humidity in the whole house, assuming the doors are open.
      The mould was bad in a couple of bedrooms so having it there a few days at the start really helped.
      We're finding small pockets of mould now, but they are really localised this year - like where there's a crack in the window frame in a corner of the room, or a gap between the carpet and wall.
      Hope this helps, and good luck with your dehumidifier!

    Bought the Arete 12L just over a week ago, can't understand why we never had one before. We have it set in one of the bedrooms for drying laundry overnight then open the door and let it 'do' it's thing with the rest of the house. Ideally we should have one upstairs and downstairs ( 2 x 10L would probably be ideal) but my wife has this 'thing' about dehumidifiers drying the air out too much , yes I've tried explaining that you can set it to whatever but hey ho at least we've got one 🙂. The radiators downstairs which always had clothes on them drying thus stopping us from getting the heat and also putting humidity into the air, are now free and so far the heating hasn't had to be set above 18C. I actually look forward to emptying the container, the other bonus is that because we have day and night rate electricity running it from 11pm for 7 hours costs us......15 pence !! We have it running 24/7, obviously it switches off now and again when the set humidity is reached but if it actually ran for the other 17 hours it would be 99 pence !! £1.14 for a full day seems reasonable to me and I'm sure the heating bill will be slightly less so it will cover the cost a little BUT we are much more comfortable and once the initial clearing of mould has been removed with my mould+mildew spray it should save me buying that. ALL the windows have nothing on them at the bottom, so no more wiping every morning, can't you tell I'm pleased 🙂. The thing is, don't scrimp on a cheap one as you will end up throwing it out, This is a brilliant bit of kit ! ( I have no association with any company).

    • @DADDELIVERS
      @DADDELIVERS  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks for this brilliant comment John - having an upstairs and downstairs is a great idea having tried to carry ours up and down(!)
      They could duke it out against each other.
      I can't yet work out which floor is more damp...
      I think we would love our air to be dried out too much - it needs an 'Arid' setting.
      And oh... running it on cheaper electricity would be the best.
      We're about to experiment with it being cheaper to do the laundry than the tumble dryer which I keep trying to sabotage but always get busted.
      I'm shocked there's no condensation on the new double glazed windows any more too.
      Thanks again for the comment!

      @@DADDELIVERS Meaco do say to leave it on the landing and it will 'draw' the wet air to it (wether this is true or not I don't know). Also the Arete model is one of the few that work for the UK climate (ie working from a cooler temperature) and it can also be used with it's back tight to the wall rather than being pulled away from it. One washing load takes about 7 hours, unfortunately the laundry mode only runs for 6 hours, so we usually put it on then shut the door, run it for about an hour and then reset it.

    • @markus4979
      @markus4979 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@johnw2758 second person I'm hearing that it requires an additional hour = 7hrs for a washing, i wonder why it's limited to 6hrs in that mode, whether it's a capacity issue and whether there is a better alternative to this brand/model, as manually turning it on twice for one washing seems very impractical.

    • @markus4979
      @markus4979 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      btw. would a 20L or 25L not be better instead of 2x10L in terms of total price + running cost?

    • @johnw2758
      @johnw2758 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@markus4979 A workaround that we now use is this, the Laundry Mode sets the humidity level at 35% for 6 hours, so what we do is set the level to the lowest in 'normal' mode it can go (40%) and then it just runs until that level is achieved (by that time the laundry is dry), then we reset the humidity level to what room level we want (50%). There is also a continuous level which can be used, again, you can then revert to the room level after drying. One 20L (or 25L) will obviously be cheaper to run than 2 x 10L, but it depends where you are situating the one (larger) unit for it to be effective. Meaco recommend at the top of the landing to draw all the moist air. Ours is now running on and off as it has (finally) got to a level in our house. It took just short of 5 weeks to get to the level we wanted. It cost an extra £30 for the month extra BUT it enabled our heating to be on 18C and we felt comfortable. No radiators had washing draped on them and also we didn't have to rewash things because they didn't dry in time and started having that musty smell. It will also be beneficial in warmer but wetter weather because we can now dry clothes when it is too hot to have the radiators on. My wife took some convincing at first but now she absolutely loves it !

    I have had the larger version of this for two years and the handle plastic has cracked by the uprights, the controls on top randomly cut out the power to the unit and the unit is noisier than when new. I have a 5 year warranty, yet Meaco want to charge me to ship the unit back to them and charge me a service fee even though they admit the unit is faulty. Thankfully John Lewis have accepted a full refund at no cost to me. Yes the Meaco extracts water well, but the build quality is very poor and the customer service is shockingly bad, they are rude and will not accept a non fee repair or replacement.
    If you go ahead and buy a Meaco, buy from John Lewis or other retailer willing to accept a full refund. Oh, keep the box because otherwise you will be charged a fee to return the item without a box. On a positive note, although the sales and customer support for Meaco is bad, the technical people are excellent and friendly.

      Fascinating - thanks Roger. This handle does give for a unit this weight which is a concern sometimes. Did the controls cut out after the handle went? That's great about John Lewis. Thanks for taking the time to leave this.

      It's the 18L model and about as high as a sofa arm, it's quite big.
      All our mould has pretty much gone, it's been amazing plus helps with drying the washing instead of a tumble dryer.
      There's a new model out, so this model might be coming down in price.

      Thanks for the kind question.
      We've had ours for 4 months now at 20L and it has been perfect.
      I have no idea what the Litres refers to, because the storage for the water is 4.8L...
      I suppose it depends on how big your home is and whether you'd like to use it for drying clothes indoors.
      I wanted to save money and not get a bigger one, but now we have it there are no regrets at all.
      I'm sure the 12L one would work through the same humidity. Sorry I cant help more and thanks again for asking - good luck with your choice!

      It took a lot in the first 4 weeks, then the amount per day dropped - I think it's because it dried the walls out and is now only dealing with humidity in the room.
