I've been writing 5 year plans for over 25 years. It's allowed me to become a wife and mother, travel the world, own real estate, own my own business and my now "5-year plan" is leading me to financial freedom. Putting one foot in front of the other, taking daily action and forgiving yourself for the days that aren't perfect is the way forward. The key is to start. Your TEDx talk hit home for me. Your vulnerability and passion shine. Thank you for your words and ideas that are definitely worth spreading.

You made me laugh out loud Mardi! I don't know if many outside of such experiences can appreciate the truth in your story, but I went up for a '2 yr. plan', which led to 4 years in Fort McMurray. The cliche is so true about the '5 or 10 year plan' in McMurray! Though I 'cried and whined' for my first year too, I also appreciated my husband more, met many wonderful people from all over the world who have become our friends, and challenged myself with some new volunteer experiences. I am now so grateful for the experience. I wish I'd seen your video in my first months there. Kudos to you for sharing your story and insight.

Awesome thanks for sharing! There is no place on earth like Fort McMurray and man oh man I never would have thought that I would be so thankful to have moved there.

Mardi, I thought your presentation was awesome! I was wondering how you did this...did you practice in front of the proverbial mirror or have more structured guidance? Also, the five year plan, is there something structured that you followed?
