“VW Golf MK3 - old lady” is one of the best car commercial ever. Dad and son buying the old lady’s Golf thinking it was treated gently by an elderly but in reality, grandma hooned it to hell. It’s a perfect reference to cars & bids.
3G eclipse "Days Go By" commercial. Will never forget it. My grandmother had every gen Eclipse and at the time she had a 2000 Black GT Eclipse. She saw that commercial and a few days later she had the Eclipse from the commercial (facelift version) she also loved the song so much she went to the dealership and bought the soundtrack from all the 3G commercials
I had it. It was nice, except that Honda uses an ergonomic model for very tall people. The seat was lower than I like to sit. I’m only 5’7”. GMs used to be like this but now, provide a taller seat adjuster. I rent them all the time when travelling.
Had an 08 USDM TSX (final year of the generation in the commercial) with a manual. Dead reliable and a lot of fun to drive. It was definitely one of those cars that was more than the sum of its parts.
That commercial was so epic. I watch it from time to time to this day. The music, the cinematography, the driving, the fact that Guy Ritchie was taking a piss on his then-wife Madonna - so epic
Agreed! *"BMW Films - Star"* was Great! In fact, the entire "BMW Films" series of short movies were amazing! I also enjoyed *"BMW Films - Ambush"* starring a 7-series, *"BMW Films - Ticker"* starring a Z4, and the ending of *"BMW Films - The Follow"* was . . . Unexpected.
I doubt it was a TV ad, but the Porsche one where the kid sees a 911 out the window at school, goes to the dealership, sits in one, and says he'll be back in 20 years was iconic to me. Still resonates with me to this day. I pray they do a follow-up ad since it's probably been close to 20 years since they made it.
"Punk." I don't like personalized license plates but I do have a crazy dream of getting an LFA with a Looks Fast plate in homage to those Celica commercials.
German standup comedian finishes his gig, nobody laughs, a single slow clap. Red curtain closes. "Germans can't make jokes, but they make good cars" Audi
I wanted to see Big Day mentioned here. It’s such a classic ad from an era where VW was putting out tons of great ads. Their ad campaigns for the Mk3, Mk4, and Mk5 all put out really memorable commercials, but Big Day always pops into my head first. I remember watching it as a kid, and for a few years I ended up driving a manual VR6 Mk4 Jetta.
My favourite is a VW beetle commercial. The announcer asked a question of the viewers while the commercial was showing a snowplough ploughing deep snow. His question “Have you ever thought about how the snowplough driver gets to work?” Cut to a VW Beetle parked outside the highways building. “ A Volkswagen Beetle”. End scene.
The best advertisement I saw was a used aston martin ad. And in it there is a beautiful girl In a skippy outfit Standing next to an aston martin. And the ad says....." Sure, You're not the first but, do you really care?" 🤔😉😄
@AmitPatel_. Oh ok it's been years since I saw it. I had to look it up, you're right, she's just in a kitchen, no car, just the logo. Oh well it was a good fake. If I was Aston Martin I would of owned it 😂. Thanks for the correction..👍
Probably because they are all from the US and Peugeot hasn't sold any cars here for over 30 years. My 206 was the last car I bought before I moved to the US in 2003; I was disappointed that there were no French cars anywhere to be seen, not just Peugeots! I remember the launch commercial for the 206, it featured Lenny Kravitz' "Fly Away", and as a consequence it became a massive hit and put him back on top after quite a few flop singles.
The original Ford Explorer ad is what introduced me to Ozzy, lol. Hearing Crazy Train blasting while a red Explorer drove off-road was epic. Also, can't overstate how epic and brilliant the BMW Films series was.
@@kirkericson2722 Me too! The exquisitely perfect combination of song choice , and visual storytelling in that ad captured such a hauntingly beautiful mood. It made me nostalgic for long summer drives through backroads. It was so much more than just “this car is cool”
So we just aren't going to talk about the Pontiac Trans Am late 90s commercial that literally drives through this maserati lotus looking thing at a stop light, eats it need for speed style thru the engine and out the tailpipe , then burps. Cool.
The one that comes to mind is the old Lincoln Mark VIII ad where it is too tall to go under the metal bar until it get up to 70 and it goes right under because it drops down at speed.
My favorite is similar to Kennan's but instead of a camera car, it's an old pickup, and 2 Aussie guys inside passes and goes "Must be stuck in 3rd" and then they laugh and gap the rocket car. Another good one is the Ram truck super bowl commercial about farmers.
The Honda Accords ad is SOOO GOOOD!!! We only got to watch it full on TV ONCE!!!! And they pulled it... It was sooo good!!! Honourable mentions to Toyota's "The focus group"
My pick for most memorable was the 1999 VW Jetta ad where a couple was moving through a city and everything around the car was synchronized to the wipers or blinkers.
Porsche 997 commercial. Kid in class, pencil drops on floor, 997 drives by, kid rides to dealer and gets a business card... that commercial was based on my story with Weissach Motors in Vancouver B.C.
Mercedes used to have the ad with the chicken showing their adaptive suspension. I like the Jaguar response where the engineer is dancing with the chicken and says “see, it’s just like a Mercedes!” And the live Jaguar eats the chicken :)
Doug's is the BEST! "Toys" is my absolute favorite. Love that add. Another good one from Nissan in the era was the Maxima, black leaving the car was with pigeons chasing to the theme of Top Gun. Another great is the Cadilac commercial featuring Kate Walsh asking "when you turn your car go on, does it return the favor"
2 of my favorites- 1. The intro ad for the new vw Beetle with the music from Electric Light Orchestra - it's a work of art. (Search "VW Mr blue sky") 2. The Toyota Tacoma ad with the soon to be ex-girlfriend who pushes his truck of a mountain and it lands at the bottom on its wheels, without a scratch and the woman just howls "Noooooooo!" in utter defeat- hilarious! (Search Tacoma girlfriend)
I actually thought of the Nissan Z32 commercial. I also loved the "dogs love trucks" one from the same time. VW had a slew of great commercials in the early 00s. I love the one where the girl brings her boyfriend to meet her parents and the dad tells him to "go take a hike". The guy leaves angrily, and then she says "Dad, not all VW drivers like the outdoors".
My three favorites... 1. Sienna Swagger Wagon 2. The VW ad where the guy licks the door handle to claim the car 3. The VW ad where the husband gets the wife from getting ready to show her how the windows roll down with the key
VW had the best commercials. I love the one where the salesman tells customer "Accelerate through the corner you can really feel it" which makes the guy get overly excited
My top three were the 300Z commercial (props, Doug), the 97 Altima commercial with "I'm a Believer" rocking the barnyard, and The One - Ford GT commercial from 2004.
Those mid to late 00s bmw ads were amazing. I remember working at bmw dealership in 2011 and they still had that style of advertisement. I loved that era.
One of my favorites is the old Pontiac GTO ads that had real tigers in them, and it would crawl out of the engine bay, like the car runs off tiger power 😂
What about all those mid 90s vw ads. Nick Drake’s Pink moon paired with the vw cabrio. The Jetta with wipers moving synchronized to a beat. Golf with the “da da da” song. Also, honorable mention is the Mitsubishi Eclipse commercial with the electro pop music - dirty Vegas or something like that.
Nissan - "Toys" is quite iconic for a car commercial, people do forget there was a sequel "Toys 2" where GI Joe saves Barbie from the pool and drives a Pathfinder.
The Mercedes "Sunday Driver" ad was quite funny, considering the double meaning of Sunday Driver and Häkkinen getting called a retiree by Beckenbauer who was much older.
I had that Tercel. 2 door, 4 speed manual, no power steering. Door mounted shoulder belt. Only options where AC and tape deck. Man was that thing agile. Got almost 40mpg on the highway.
My Top 3 Car Commercials, 997 911 Commercial where the kids at school and dreams of owning a 911 and goes to the dealership, 2008 Cayenne GTS Commercial where they rev off to eachother, and the OG Panamera Family Tree Commercial
Look up the AMC Eagle SX/4 commercial. They get really specific about comparisons, such as "Outhandles Trans Am in soft sand" and "Out accelerates Mustang in loose dirt."
The MK4 Supra Super Bowl commercial and the 993 Turbo commercial with the dude on the train looking out the window. The MK4 GTI commercial with the 2 dudes throwing stuff up into a tree and the red GTI falls out.
I’m the 50’s and 60’s, a coupe was a vehicle without a B-pillar and had doors without frames around the windows. A sedan was a car with a B-pillar and doors with window frames. Back then you could get a 2-door coupe or a 2-door sedan. The coupe was sometimes referred to as a “hardtop convertible”. And while most 4-doors were sedans, there were a few 4-door coupes. Also, coupes generally has sportier roof lines that were more sloped while a sedan had a slightly taller roof and the rear window was more upright. volvo made a commercial showcasing the safety of the 960. and they drove it straight into a crash barrier and got it rear ended by another car. the final shot just shows an absolutely wrecked 960 roll onto the screen
The best ad is obviously "unpimp your ride" by VW.
This.I loved those. There were quite a few as well

Yes!
The Porsche dream car commercial is great. The kid looking in the dealer and later in life growing up to own one.
That one and the commercial where the guy brings his tractor to a Porsche service center are two of my favorites.
This was the ad that I thought of first. I had it on my first iPod Video. Good times.

Kia Soul Hamsters with 'We are young' playing in the background while jumping off a plane.
The Audi '"Keys" ad is quite good.
Once again Kennan proves his only personality trait is “I have a M5.”
I don’t think he can go a single video without mentioning BMW

They discuss it in the episode...
Ah, the e39 M5 land speed commercial really brings back memories. Mine was a 2000 Avus Blue with Silverstone, 4:3 screen and all. Loved that car.
Avus was the best color for the E39 M5. If I ever get one that’s the color I want, that or silverstone.
Peugeot 206 commercial, with the elephant! It was wild in Europe
Same here in Argentina, I still love that ad!
I always loved the old man yelling at the parked Celica to slow down. One of the all time greats.

The Ford SportKa ads were something else, 1 feature the car killing a pigeon the other decapitating a cat
"I thought we agreed you'd get a Subaru" "But Dad, I did!"
300ZX dream commercial is one of my favorites, but Honda’s Rube Goldberg is above and beyond.
The 300ZX Turbo Dream commercial is my all-time favorite!
Subaru XT commercial in the 80’s-
“Thought we agreed you’d buy a Subaru?”
“But dad…I did.”
Doug wins. However, VW made some great ads:
- Jetta wedding “Big Day” ad
- Golf “Sunday Afternoon” (Da Da Da) ad
2nd for Big Day. I wanted a Jetta for years because of that commercial
