Brilliant video, well put together. Much simpler than other guides that suggest disconnecting the strut etc. Any issues I ran into, just looked back through your video again and there were the answers. Very much appreciated and saved me $800!!!
Yeah i would just be taking off the suspension. Two bolts straight access. Sure you need to get it aligned, but better than knocking around your control arms IMO
Great video man. Im about to do the passenger side cv axle on my 2018 Forester. On the highway at speeds above 72mph and only when turning slightly (left or right) i get a sort of rumble. Going straight its fine. But I did get the front end in the air to check for play in the wheel bearing and it seemed super solid. So I’m hoping the cv replacement will fix it!
Thanks! Did you purchase the CV axle already? If not, I would look at it first. For example, mine was clearly damaged as I could see grease everywhere. It was on the inside of the rims and around the axle. Also, if you can grab the axle and move it in and out, is another sign. If you don’t see either of those, I would consider looking elsewhere to solve the problem. Possibly unbalanced wheel. The cv axle isn’t cheap, so I would hate for you to spend that kind of money, and that not be the problem.👍🏾
Did you end up replacing the CV axle and did it solve your issue? I have basically the EXACT same issue you've described, also 2018 Forester. I've already bought the new CV axles though, so hoping that actually is the solution!
2020 Forrester with 90,000 miles and I just finished replacing both front cv axles and all four sets of brake pads. But now wondering if I damaged one of the antilock brake wires or something as now after this work all dash lights are on and power steering not working. I removed battery cables and held them together to clear computer but after driving over 30 miles all the dash lights are still on and power steering still not working. So I then used my Blue Driver Pro Scan tool and cleared all the codes. But this still hasn’t fixed any of these issues. Any ideas? I think I will order new antilock brake wires if I can’t sort it out.
@@brandonmueller4454 awe man, sorry to hear that. I’m not sure what it can be. Hopefully someone who does can chime in. I would just go back thru and inspect every area you touched and look for faults. Hope you can get it figured out.
Remember to be cautious with the new boots. At first I was so focused on getting it into position, that I wasn’t thinking about damaging the new boot. Luckily I thought about it before it was too late.👍🏾
@@songsoftime6072 i don’t remember the site I ordered from, but it ended up being a local Subaru dealer. But go thru the comments. Someone had just mentioned where they’re ordering aftermarket for under $200 each.👍🏾
I am also getting it replaced and thinking of going with GSP XD cv axle at rockauto . It’s coming at 100$ shipped ! If anyone has any reviews let me know
Love the "saves time" correction!! IDK how many times i've said "this will only take me 30min." ... 4hrs later

@@tatefontenot2592 yeah the cv axles aren’t cheap, so putting in a little extra work to avoid possible damage is a good idea.👍🏾

Thanks for the tutorial and tool recommendations!
You're welcome! Thanks for taking the time out to watch it and comment!
I’m having left side issues. Should I replace left and right at same time or ok to just replace left where issue is?? Great video!! Thanks 🙏🏻
@@Damon_Jay thanks! If you are financially able to replace both, I would do both. If not, then just do the left side.👍🏾

Great video thanks 🙏👍. Just curious, what's the mileage now on your Forester?
Thanks! I’m currently at 106k. My CV axle probably went bad around 100k.
I need to do this on my 2019 forester

When im turning slow it feels like my tires are vibrating or like how 4x4 feels when it’s locked in. Could this be my cv axles ?

Where do you source the parts? Subaru wants $550 per axel assembly!

Rock Auto is best place I have found for great reliable options and best price for quality parts.

Could you just replace the joint or is that not worth the time and effort vs. just replacing whole cv axle?
@@brandonmueller4454 you can, but in the end you won’t be saving much. It just makes more sense to do a complete replacement.
