As much as Bill was a great basketball mind, he didn’t translate much off-court. He was a coach and he couldn’t do much with it. Jerry West had success any organization he went to.

Met Jerry West 10 years ago when he was in vacation in Italy, asked him for a picture and told him that he was my father's favorite player. He brushed it off and said he wasn't even the best player in his team. Then he told me and my brother stories about Elgin Baylor and Wilt for 10 minutes.
I coudn't believe the humbleness and the kindness.
One of the very best players ever, and one of the very best GMs ever. And an even better human being.

On Wilt: he said that in all his years he had never seen a better athlete than Wilt. He said that he is the strongest player in any era and that no one could match up with him physically. He said that only Bill Russell could get in Wilt's head to take him out of the game.
On Elgin Baylor: he said that Elgin was one of the purest scores ever. He compared him to George Gervin and KD, but that he played with intensity and fire like Kobe. He said that if you disrespected Elgin he would drop 50 on your head (his words).
He said that if you gave Elgin what these players have today (trainers, nutritionists, chefs and shot gurus) he would have scored at least 40 a game.
And then he just left, i had like 50 Kobe questions that i'll never get to ask.
But he is the coolest.
I love how honored chuck was when Jerry West picked him. And then he goes immediately back to roasting Kenny 😂😂😂
Man, I would love for Mr West to just go over what he loves about each team, he’s so knowledgeable about the game of basketball and the fact that everyone in the room calls him “Mr West” is just a testament of how respected he is in the basketball world

Wilt is a far superior rebounder and overall defender I still have to give the nod to wilt tho west is one of the goat defenders ever but still wilt is just too much and versatile on defense even for the all time great jerry west

His starting 5 was the best because he picked Stockton and Chamberlain. Both statistical monsters. Looked up Magic v Stockton and similar stats except Stockton has 2-3 less TOs a game and creates 1-2 more TOs for his team. Statistically Stockton was better at both ends.

West is so right about how under appreciated Stockton is. Career leader in Assists AND Steals. He literally owns 2 of the main five categories we use to measure player’s abilities. Nobody else has two of those five.

Kareem sort of if they counted his first few years in blocks. Though Wilt would dominate that if we went back further, probably averaging a triple-double in points-rebounds-blocks at some point.

Yea but skill wise Stockton has next to none, he couldn’t dribble with his off hand. He was just good at passing the ball in the post. Sure he could defend but i think the lack of a ring speaks for itself

Everything he touches turns to gold. Trace his career in the front office from Los Angeles, to Memphis, to the LA Clippers, to the Golden State Warriors. Aside from the Lakers, every team he went to struggled amidst mediocrity and worse. When he arrived they immediately turned themselves into teams that could go deep in the playoffs and /or contend and win championships. His eye for talent and team assembly is second to none. Probably the greatest all time tbh

Watched Mikan as a kid, played against all others 50s and 60s player, most of the 70s and watched all other ones grew up as a GM and most important person in basketball history

I know that essentially this is just a mock draft, but drafting against Jerry West must have been so intimidating. He has played with, played against, or evaluated every single NBA player of the last 60+ years. His knowledge is insane.

Jerry West was my highlight of the show. Mr. West was engaged in the banter between the younger members as well as dropping knowledge about the older players. Even got in some good smack talk. Loved at the end when Jerry told Quavo he needed to take his glasses off as a joke busting his chops. 🤣
Sue Bird has 5 Gold Medals really think about that for a second going to 5 Olympics is crazy enough but being a key part in all of them wow truly incredible

Klay is overrated. Look at the numbers. I understand the argument that his ppg is lower due to the teams he played on, but his rebs and asts are pretty low for a Top 75 player of all time. I'm just not sure he's Top 75.
