Currently, Church of England members of the clergy are not permitted to carry out same-sex marriages, whilst homosexual Anglicans are required to remain celibate. In recent years, however, the Church of Wales, the Scottish Episcopal Church, and, most recently, the Methodist Church, have all embraced marriage equality. In February 2023, the General Synod met to discuss the issue, raising the question across the Anglican Communion and Christendom: should Christianity extend the sacraments to same same-sex marriages?
ABOUT THE OXFORD UNION SOCIETY: The Oxford Union is the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. Since 1823, the Union has been promoting debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe.

to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
      to set the oppressed free

and john 13:34(mentions of the new covenant) and that means its no problem to wear more than one fabric:) ,and considering those I don't think christianity has bad moral atributes at all which for me it is logic to be a christian and that's not all there are a lot of explications for those questions and apparent problems , you can't just condemn that you have to be dumb to be a christian without doing some research before.Much peace!!

Homosexuality is still condemned in the New Testament.
As for slavery, you have it wrong
*In the New Testament, the reality that slavery existed is accepted, but the practice is never affirmed or encouraged. The New Testament authors also strongly challenge the way slavery was understood and practiced in their time. For example, human trafficking is condemned (1 Timothy 1:10), masters are commanded to treat the their slaves well and are reminded that before God they and their slaves are equals (Ephesians 6:9; Colossians 4:1), and, where possible, the freeing of slaves is encouraged (1 Corinthians 7:21; Philemon 16). Through these condemnations, commands and encouragements, the New Testament strongly communicates that fact that slavery is not what God wants.*
*In this way, the Bible radically challenges the concept of slavery and the way it was practised and sows the seeds that later flowered into abolition. It should therefore not be surprising that throughout church history, many Christians (though sadly not all) have expressed concerns about slavery. There have always been some small shoots from the seeds sown in the Bible, even if they didn’t come into full bloom until recent centuries in many parts of the world.*
*When we turn to the topic of sexuality, however, we find no seeds of change. The Bible consistently teaches that sex is reserved for one-man, one-woman marriages and that same-sex sexual relationships are not acceptable to God. The New Testament affirms this and even strengthens the prohibitions of the Old Testament (e.g. Matthew 5:27-28; 19:7-9).*
*We also find that, unlike in the case of slavery, where there were diverse views in the Church from its earliest centuries, the Church has been unanimous and consistent in its view that sex and marriage are reserved for opposite-sex couples. The Bible contains no seeds for change on this position and church history shows no evidence of shoots emerging from such seeds.*

@@chadterly9842 Short answer: certain Old Testament laws were ceremonial, simply to set the Jewish nation apart from other nations. Another example of this would be the ban on pork, which God specifically tells the apostle Peter is no longer applicable, or circumcision. Other laws were about morality, like "thou shalt not steal" or "thou shalt not covet thine neighbor's wife." The ban on homosexuality is a moral law.
Secondly, a lot of the laws in the Old Testament, such as on divorce or slavery, were intentionally permissive, giving a bottom for permissiveness, not a ceiling for holiness (also, slaves were regularly released every 50 years on the Jubilee year, in an attempt to remove generational slavery). Jesus addresses this point specifically when He says: "It was because of your hardness of heart that Moses allowed you to divorce your wives. But from the beginning it was not this way." Jesus gives us a high standard to aim at (be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect), so obviously not everything allowed before is ok now.

    • @chriscombat4617
      @chriscombat4617 ปีที่แล้ว

@Chad Terly Remember, when it comes to sin, Christianity has one crucial principal: Hate the sin, not the sinner! You make a lot of presumptions which shows a mirror of yourself. Don't conclude everything as hate, it's shallow.
The other reason why Church don't agree with gay marriage is that if you don't believe in God but still want to marry as gay then you don't need to marry in a church, but if you believe in God and want to marry as Christian then you can pray to God to change you so you can experience the calling of marriage as written in Genesis 2:24, “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”

Irrespective of the sin element which I will not go into. Consider this...Homosexuality is a biological anomoly and if relied on as a whole the human race would be extinct. Why has God created a man and a woman? For a woman to wear a strap on prosthetic to please her partner's vagina? A vaginas anticipates a penis. Then for a man to have penetrative sex as his sexual organ requires, he must place in an excretory hole that is the anus with all its toxins. Now tell me that's all right??

I am not a practising Christian but same sex marriage is against Gods / Jesus words. You have no right to try and change that. Your choice is to give up being a leader in the church. People are not banned from same sex interaction (at least not in the Christian faith) and indeed love, but Marriage is completely different. Having someone your own sex for company and indeed to love both physically and mentally is not condemned by most in the church I would suggest. Civil marriage is as far as it should go.

Ladies and Gentlemen. Here are 7 simple points as to why the church cannot support same-sex marriage:
    1. God is the author of marriage, not humanity. Therefore, Humanity doesn’t have the right or authority to define marriage. Genesis 2 teaches us that when God saw that Adam was alone, he didn’t build Adam a brother or another Adam. He built Adam a woman. A Christian woman is designed by God to fulfil 3 purposes: 1. Procreation. God commanded the man to “be fruitful and multiply. (Genesis 1), Adam cannot fulfil this command with a man. Same sex couples cannot produce children. A man needs a woman for this. 2. Illustration. A marriage is suppose to reflect what God’s design for what a family is. “Therefore a man shall leave his mother and father and be joined to his wife and they shall become one flesh”. When God look at what a family is, he sees a man and woman joined together, nothing else. 3. Sanctification. a Christian marriage is suppose to reflect Jesus’s relationship with the church. They are one body. Just as a man and a woman married together are one flesh, one body.
    2. Jesus himself is against homosexuality. Why? Because of the Holy Trinity, Jesus is God. Jesus was there when Sodom and Gomorrah was being destroyed for rape, homosexuality, and other wickedness. Jesus is the author of Leviticus, a book which contains the laws given to Israel, which condemns same sex sexual activities as an abomination. You cannot separate Jesus from the God the father and God the Holy Spirit. Jesus himself said “I have not come to destroy the law but to fulfil it”.
    3. There are three types of laws in the bible. The moral law (summaries as the Ten Commandments), the Civil law (laws given to the nation of Israel, and ceremonial law (laws given on how to worship the True God rightly). Homosexuality being a sin is a moral law. This means that it is a law that needs to be preserved for all time, just like how murder and stealing are moral laws. Moral law transcends time and culture. We are all, believer and non-believer, sinner and non-sinner, are responsible to the moral law.
    4. Homosexuality is a dangerous sin to commit. It is the only sin in the bible that God calls “an abomination” and in the Book of Romans, it is the one of the few sins where God says “there is a penalty in the flesh” if you commit this sin. This is why the LGBT community has the highest rates of Sexual diseases, high suicide rates, and various mental health issues. This is a judgement from God. This sin cannot be taken lightly.
    5. The bible view on “Love” and the world’s view on “Love” are completely different. The bible doesn’t teach you to “follow your heart”, in fact, the bible teaches the opposite. In the book of Jeremiah, God says that “the heart is wicked and deceitful amongst all things, who can know it.” Since God is all loving, he defines what love is. God defines love in the Ten Commandments. We are called to love God first and then love others. This means that obeying God is a Christian’s first and top priority. Even Jesus himself, after saving a woman from persecution in the Book of Matthew, told the woman to “SIN NO MORE”. As a Christian, I cannot love you and see you embracing an act which is against God and will lead you to hell.
    6. Finally, the bible is not outdated, because God is not outdated. God is an all powerful being who exists out of time. Do you really believe that such a God would give us a holy book that needs to be updated and complement to the modern culture? Absolutely not. The bible, in the book of Timothy, makes it clear that it is “a complete book, fit to equip a man for all good works”.
    7. Since that fall of Adam in Genesis 3, we are all Sinners. This means we are all bent towards ourselves and not towards God. The book of Psalms echoes this point: “there is nobody, not one, that seeks for God”. We are all wretched sinners and everyone deserves to go to hell. God, through his love for us, sent his son to take all of our sins and die the death we should have done. We are saved through Jesus Christ my brothers and sisters. Therefore, Jesus himself said that if we truly loved him “we would keep his commandments”. This means that as Christians, we are ultimately called to OBEDIENCE, not just love. Love is a part of the nature of a Christian, it is not the be all and end all of what a Christian is. We must obey first, then love second. God himself in the book of Jeremiah, chapter 3 calls us to return to him, not to Love others harder.
Brothers and Sisters, from the book of Genesis, to the book of Leviticus, and the Book of Romans, it is clear that Homosexuality is not to be supported, embraced, celebrated, and accepted. Remember that our Goal is be like Christ, not like the world. We cannot adopt what the world wants, only what God wants, which is obedience, repentance, and a complete hatred of sin, not the sinner. If the church becomes like the world and thinks like the world, then we are mocking the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and disgracing the Gospel of Christ which saved us. Non-believers do not have the right to tell us what love is, because God has already done that.

Look, there is no biblical exegesis you can do that would allow for same-sex marriage. Richard B. Hays has essentially demonstrated this in his book "The Moral Vision of the New Testament." Sorry, the more honest position is to simply reject the Bible, so as to embrace same-sex marriage. If you do that, you may as well reject the biblical teachings (to includes Jesus') that are also otherwise uncomfortable to the culture.

His views are not founded upon biblical truth but through his own worldly experiences that he then tries to find an exception for in the Bible so he doesn’t have to quit his day job as a church leader, of course he hasn’t found it so he twists the scriptures to fit his own world view. The Apostle Paul warned of this in his first letter to Timothy and in his letter to the Romans.

Marriage between a man and a woman was instituted by God with Adam and Eve. Genesis 2:24 states: “Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and cleaves to his wife, and they become one flesh.”
In Matthew 19:4-5, Jesus reaffirms this: “He answered, ‘Have you not read that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one’?”

Martin Garrick needs to get born again by the Holy Spirit. Some are called by man and others by God. He needs to read the scripture about teachers/shepherds who lead Gods people away from truth. Their blood would be required of Him. Who must we obey, God or man. The bible clearly speaks against homosexuality, the act, not against the person. You need to understand marriage which is a reflection of Christ and his church. This is why the church is called a bride. This is why a man is instructed to love his wife (woman) like Christ loves the church. Martin also needs to understand the word love. Love is not some sexual act or desire. Jesus said if we love him we obey what he has said and if we are loving folks with Christ love, that love would not, WOULD NOT, push us to sin against Christ. Same sex marriage should not be in the church. Any church allowing this is in apostasy and will be judged by the hands of God for leading folks to sin against Him. We cannot mix the holy with the vile, the light and darkness.. it’s creates an abomination and hastens the judgement of God.

He saves the prostitute and tells her her sins are forgiven; to go and sin no more, not I forgive you, go about your business and I will save you the next time your customers come round to stone you! All this support for gay marriage would be reasonable if one does not know what happens in the gay community. Up to 98% of especially male unions are rife with extra "marital" partners. And many female unions are not only non monogamous, but have a high degree of physical abuse and battery, as women are a very jealous lot. How is this conducive to marital happiness, and squared with what Jesus said about A man and A woman, abolishing the old Jewish laws that allowed a man to divorce his wife and marry another?

The first things you see when trying to find scripture about it on google is people trying to paint the Bible in red, pink and blue but the Bible is black and white and always has been. I would rather you saying you are not Christian than misleading yourself and others, the Bible is a lot like the Quran and Torah. But people don’t try to change them and follow them properly. God loves you and wants you you come to him in holiness and with a clear and good heart. Give yourself completely to God and he will guide your heart and soul and your justification of sin will become shame and eventually it will become a story of your salvation and hope, your story showed that you are ashamed of that identity but you keep trying to find someone and not God to tell you that what you are doing is right and justifying that the Bible doesn’t speak about it, sure it does and in your deepest of hearts you know. As a Christian I will tell you this God is your maker praise him, love him and worship him only. You only need God to tell you what is Good and just, without the noise of the world speak to God and learn about his word clearly. He knows you and your struggles and he will not abandon you.

It's funny that He actually DID NOT look deeper in Scripture. I guess because He knows what it contains as it relates to homosexuality and marriage. Overall very poor presentation of His side of the argument.. 8 minutes of nothing really..

All those who argue for gay marriage don't always use scriptures but use human logic

Completely nonsensical argument here. I don't understand how "having life in abundance" means being able to openly sin. 4:00 "Could repressing your natural instincts and desires be hazardous at the end?" That's the whole point, these desires aren't natural, they're sinful according to Scripture (Rom. 1:26-27).

Mr. Gorrick seems to be attempting to please men versus serving God. He is certainly not being obedient to holy scripture.

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works."
