Currently, Church of England members of the clergy are not permitted to carry out same-sex marriages, whilst homosexual Anglicans are required to remain celibate. In recent years, however, the Church of Wales, the Scottish Episcopal Church, and, most recently, the Methodist Church, have all embraced marriage equality. In February 2023, the General Synod met to discuss the issue, raising the question across the Anglican Communion and Christendom: should Christianity extend the sacraments to same same-sex marriages?
ABOUT THE OXFORD UNION SOCIETY: The Oxford Union is the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. Since 1823, the Union has been promoting debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe.

I think Muslims never lose Jesus peace be upon him when they find Allah (God). I revere Jesus and love him just like all the prophets including Mohammed peace be upon him.
Christians have elevated a prophet into a place of undue worship. Jews have blasphemed against and tried to kill their prophets. Muslims on the other hand achieve true monotheism by revering God's words and obeying him and his prophets.

Kudos Rev. Calvin for standing on the truth. Cardinal Newman once said that "the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for the good men to do nothing ".
And according to Saint Augustine of Hippo, "if you believe what you like in the gospels, and reject what you don't like, it is not the gospel you believe in, but yourself.”

Everyone else I know married has or wants kids. Most do.
Marriage vows are created in spite of feeling not because of them feelings/emotions come & go vows and commitments remain. Rev. Calvin, and this gentleman gave a rather good speech. I must say, I'm so glad I was guided to Catholicism. I'm an English Roman Catholic.
I was an agnostic for all my life. It took me 4 years of investigation of all major religions before I converted.
When I was baptised into the Catholic church I was and am so happy.
I converted based on historical and theological evidence.
The local Anglican church seems empty. Not just in its pews. But my English Catholic church is growing.
We have many black African immigrants and some native Englishmen like myself. I was Baptised by Fr. Dennis of Ghana and got the Eucharist by Fr. Pascal of Angola. Two great African priests which we need here as my countrymen in this nation have fallen away.
But I'm glad to say the other week we had to house people in the choir pit. There are so many now.
For my Anglican brothers, they are in schism. They will remain so until they come to the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. I'm only in my 20's and a student and young people want tradition.

Roman Catholicism is a false religion. Where in the NT does it say we worship Mary and have rosary beads or need to confess our sins to a priest in a confession box? We pray to God thru Jesus who is our intercessor.

    • @tired_eyes49
      @tired_eyes49 ปีที่แล้ว +12

I do not wish to spark debate here but simply clarify:
      1) We do not worship Mary. And I hope you believe Catholics when we say that. Worship belongs to God alone. Mary’s “yes” to God’s will, becoming the vessel through which God entered into our humanity, is a very big deal. She is venerated, NOT worshipped. And, since it is related and I’ve seen it argued before, no, us praying ro Mary or the Saints does not mean we worship them. We believe they are in Heaven with God and can also pray on our behalf, as they are literally right there with Him. It is similar to if I asked you, my brother or sister, to pray for me. This does not mean we do not pray directly to God through Jesus, which we do every day. I pray the Rosary daily- oh, why would Jesus ignore his own mother coming to him on my behalf? Did he not listen to her at the Wedding of Cana?- but I also, and most importantly, talk with Jesus daily. In fact, every morning I start my day thanking God for the day and praying to him to forgive me of my sins, to help me to repent, and also see if I need to go to Confession, which leads me to my next point…
      2) Jesus specifically told us to confess our sins to each other and also told the apostles that whatever they bind on Earth will be bound in Heaven and whatever they loose on Earth will be loosened in Heaven.
From personal experience, There is a beautiful freedom of knowing that you are in fact forgiven of your sins, instead of doing a crazy mental gymnastics that I have heard many of my non-Catholic brothers and sisters lament on because they have very little certainty of their forgiven state. I have received so much beautiful counsel from our priests leading me to a holier life. I pray that you too may one day experience the joy and love I have experienced through Jesus in the Confessional.

Here's the trouble though: should the Church of England have its views and beliefs dictated to it by the UK state or, put another way, should the Church, as a private institution, conform to the prevailing view of the secular society on sexuality and marriage? It works both ways - The Church should not have new dogma from a completely secular source imposed on it from without, any more than you would want the church to dictate morality to the UK state. A young woman named Chloe, I believe, gave an excellent speech to that effect, also in favor of this motion, meaning against same-sex marriage in the church, even though she herself is for it. The deceived ones are apostates, taking the wide road to destruction, at the same time there is persecution of true believers and signs of revival - all of this is prophesied - so yes, let us pray for workers for the harvest!

Exactly. Those of us in Africa are amazed at how the White mans religion through the Bible was brought in and our grandfathers were taught ABCDEF, in fact polygamy was frowned upon and men were encouraged to be monogamous in the church and even in the society. And then now BOOOM! A new teaching has come and now we are to accept that 'male and female, He DID NOT create them.' Alaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar! Who bewitched you, Galatians! Can you make up your minds already...!

Hallelujah! It’s great to see some of the Church of England stand up and declare a sin a sin. It saddens my heart to see churches turning away from the scriptures.

In my professional life, I prosecute crimes. Sins are religious superstitions of no consequence as they cannot be prosecuted. The bible, in common with all religious texts, is deeply ignorant, superstitious nonsense that promotes criminal behaviour, violence, bigotry and hatred.

The Christian teaching as brought to us in the Bible is very clear that Marriage is only between a man & women. However if secular concerns who are not Christian choose to do gay marriage that is a different thing but is still a sin.

As a South African I often get asked how my Dutch ancestors ended up in Africa. This, this is how. All the people who disagreed with the Catholic, Protestant and church of England, fled to South Africa after the trade point was opened in the Cape and the word spread that there is a free country where people can worship God as it is written in the Bible and nothing else. And we called it the Dutch Reformed church.

Born and bred South African. Very glad I never went to the Dutch Reformed Church with it's Replacement Theology, racism and emphasis on works, never telling little ones that they need to be born again and have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The Dutch Reformed Church is dying, be honest now. Young people are fleeing it.

I wish the "pro" crowd had gone to talk to the muslims about changing their doctrine first, and then perhaps this debate wouldnt have been needed.
