Brought back a lot of memory's I was in high school in the 70s and lived in Mansfield Ohio about an hour away. we would go to Cedar point 5 or 6 times in a summer. Forgot what it looked like back then. Just took my son there that got home from the army yesterday. Told him the mine ride was a main coaster back then. He said No Way... Thanks for sharing !!
gary wilson It’s funny to think that you & I could have stood side-by-side back in the day. My family went every summer. Later in high school (“ ‘81 is #1!”), went a lot with friends. Then, I worked there in ‘84, ‘85 & ‘86. I probably helped you on and off rides!
Incredible quality, the best I have seen of CP from this era. This brought back so many good childhood memories. For over 7 minutes it made me feel like I was there again. Thanks so much for posting this.
I remember going on our freshman trip to Cedar Point in 76. Then our senior prom in 80. What great memories! Thanks for sharing this awesome video, absolutely loved it!
My first visit to CP was The Bicentennial Summer of '76.. Didn't ride the Corkscrew, being new I'm sure the lines were long. (Rode it in '82). But I did ride the Jumbo Jet with my brother. This is wonderful footage, thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Excellent, clear, well photographed footage. I clearly remember every vantage point (also grew up in the 70's). Still love CP but this is definitely a superb trip back to that era. VERY well done! Thanks, RRZ518
Thank you! I have a feeling this was 1976, the first year I went there at 8 years old. Brings back memories. Riding the corkscrew was a thrill as it just opened.
Love the video and it takes me back to my childhood around those years. We got season passes to there for this year and will be going there a lot with my children. Thanks you so much for the video. The Blue Streak is a favorite to ride with my daughters.
Pure nostalgia. I went there in 1979 as a jr high schooler. Thanks so much for posting! Here’s a tip for those of you riding the blue streak: before the bar lowers over your knees to secure you, lift your knees up. This will give you more room to move in your seat. On hills, you will feel like you’re about to fall out, because you are. #Old-school.
Love your video :) We go to CP every weekend and stay on the boat at the marina. I love seeing all the old rides that I remember as a kid. I would've been 2 yrs old at the time of this video. Thanks for sharing !!
Now this is wht i remember as a kid....we used to always go on the 4th of july i remember the old jumbo jet lol ( to small to ride) my how this park has grown into what it is today but i still remember the early years in my lifetime they used to have a double ferris wheel in the middle of the park as you came in by the what i called the cable cars.
I only rode coasters in California during that period. The Cedar Creek Mine ride trains look exactly like the ones on the Gold Rusher at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Love all the bell bottom jeans!
Wow, the quality was great! If that's 8mm it's amazing, Looks like 16mm! and the exposure is spot-on (usually the biggest problem with home (color film) movies is exposure.) This looks way nicer than even a good video camera from 10-15 years later!
Thank you for sharing, look at all the WONDERFUL FAMILY RIDES the park has taken out for coaster that break down or are painful because they arent maintained . If we could only go back in time and change things
I dont know why but I get sad sometimes when I see the Cedar Point memories.Life was not difficult then.Cedar Point was a reward day of acheiving something..like graduation day.My first kiss in the San Francisco Earthquake. My first date with my boyfriend faraway without mom...great days of my life
Boy do I miss the original full version of the Western Cruise with all the silly pun humor of the captains. See iFunClub1's video called Cedar Point - Riverboat (Paddlewheel) Ride - 1980
Sweet footage. Clean cut kids having a nice day. Love those 70's bell bottoms. I would have been this age at the time. Husband and son took a coaster month, traveling around and visited Cedar Point in 2004. We hail from Florida and love to visit new parks. They had a terrific time here. I wonder if the people in the old timey cars recognize themselves from this and how cool that would be. The mother and baby well, that was beautiful to watch. Thanks!
I was too young at the time, I don't remember anything about Earthquake other than the fact that it existed. I loved Bear Country, though and I hate that it's nothing more than a shop now. I can't say I miss the Paddlewheel Excursion or whatever it was called.
Fantastic quality footage, do you mind if I use some of the Jumbo Jet clips for a video I'm making? I'd link back to the video and give on screen credit, please let me know, thanks!
I had a feeling that it was 16mm, but that size cameras for the average person was very unusual. I have never known anyone who used one. My super 8 could not compare in picture quality. Now I need to consider getting an HD camcorder.

I remember going on our freshman trip to Cedar Point in 76. Then our senior prom in 80. What great memories! Thanks for sharing this awesome video, absolutely loved it!
Some of the nicest 'old' Cedar Point footage I've seen. Thanks for sharing.
This is Cedar Point at it's best - thank you for sharing!
Great footage. Brought me back to my childhood.
Thanks for posting such classic footage.
Wonderful quality! Thanks so much for sharing this. Excellent footage.
Cedar Downs was my favorite ride as a child! Thanks for sharing!!
You're welcome.

Bruce, tearfully, Thank you for this memory.
eastlake93 You're welcome!
Excellent video. It takes me back. Thank you for sharing.
There are many videos like this up on TH-cam. Yours is very high quality, thank you for sharing.
Very cool to see quality footage of shoot the rapids and jumbo jets. Also had no clue that the frontier Cadillac cars used to run the other way!
Love the video and it takes me back to my childhood around those years. We got season passes to there for this year and will be going there a lot with my children. Thanks you so much for the video. The Blue Streak is a favorite to ride with my daughters.
Nicely shot in Kodachrome and well transferred to HD! Thanks for posting!
For the 70s that's a good camera!

LOL😆
Excellent quality but no sound. Thanks for posting!
Excellent video - very clear and well filmed. Made me remember some rides from back when I was a kid. Loved it!
Great video quality for the 70s! I love CP from that era, although it's still fun today.
God I feel old! Fantastic footage, thank you for sharing!

I think it is pretty cool that Cedar Point still has many of these rides.

That was an awesome video. Childhood memories! :-)
I worked there one summer in the late 70s. The most fun job I ever had.
I just spent three days at cedar point, it was so fun and this video is so cool to watch to see how much it had changed over the years
Wow, the quality was great! If that's 8mm it's amazing, Looks like 16mm! and the exposure is spot-on (usually the biggest problem with home (color film) movies is exposure.) This looks way nicer than even a good video camera from 10-15 years later!
Man, that is some incredible quality for being shot in the 70s.
I really enjoyed this, thanx for sharing
Where do you want to live?....Paris or Cedar Point...You do realize Cedar Point is an amusement park?...Yes I do.
Corkscrew was so shiny and new
Such cool footage! P.S....were the only pants available to people at that time bell-bottoms?
Everybody wanted them.
Thank you for sharing, look at all the WONDERFUL FAMILY RIDES the park has taken out for coaster that break down or are painful because they arent maintained . If we could only go back in time and change things
Beautiful picture of 1976 and 1979 too bad there was no sound...:(

Wow man how it changed. I went to this park for the first time in 99 I was 6 years old
I miss old school cedar point.
this was back in the day when cedar pointwas a whole lot more fun than it is now.
Used to be one heck of a place. No longer a place for family fun. So sad to see it gone. Nothing but coasters now and trashy people.
I went to cedar point like 3-4 weeks from today and it has changed a lot but I wish those rides were still there they looked cool
I was too young at the time, I don't remember anything about Earthquake other than the fact that it existed. I loved Bear Country, though and I hate that it's nothing more than a shop now.
I can't say I miss the Paddlewheel Excursion or whatever it was called.
Obviously film not video, and the sharpness is amazing! I am watching it on my 42" plasma TV and it looks almost HD. Great job ! Is it super 8?
Man, you can hardly tell what Blue Streak was because of all of the trees.
May I use this footage in a Cedar Point past coasters video? I will give full credit.
Yes.
Clear, blue skies. No chemtrails. Beautiful. We don't get to enjoy that kind of sky much anymore.
It was very interesting to see what that water ride used to be before the iron dragon sits now
FABULOUS !
Awesome video! :)
great footage, and nice camera work, 4 real...
Fantastic quality footage, do you mind if I use some of the Jumbo Jet clips for a video I'm making? I'd link back to the video and give on screen credit, please let me know, thanks!
Very nice. It's changed yet the same. It looks like it's been color corrected to look not so old(?)
I used Kodak film, which has great color. The transfer to video was done by CinePost in Marietta, Ga.
Cedar Point had a "BIG ELI" ferris wheel 03:25 ???
That's pretty much all that was there the first time I went. Guess I'm pretty old now hahahahaaaaaaaaa...
Thanks so much for sharing this. It's the best quality footage I have seen from the best era of Cedar Point! Did you use a 16mm camera for this?
Yes. Thanks !
I had a feeling that it was 16mm, but that size cameras for the average person was very unusual. I have never known anyone who used one. My super 8 could not compare in picture quality. Now I need to consider getting an HD camcorder.
What’s the name of the boat ride? I’ve never seen that ride before. (Not the log ride). It had wooden boats and two drops in sequence.
That is the original Shoot-the-Rapids. It was replaced by Whitewater Landing in 1982, which was in turn, replaced by Maverick in 2007.
@@BAKU2K2 ahhh. Thank you!
This video has good quality but how come it doesn't have any sound?
I did not have a sound movie camera.
Back when the Blue Streak was worth riding with its bench seats and no need for the individual restraints that take away the air time.
baritonebynight You were safe as long as you didn't stand up.
it must of been cold that day. Everybody has on jackets and long sleeves
THERE IS NO AUDIO IN THIS VIDEO......
What is the mm of the footage, 8, Super 8, or 16? Also, is the woman and her daughter the wife and daughter of the gentleman who posted this?
It is 16mm. Kodak film. That is my wife with my firstborn.
@@leskobruce thank you for getting back with me! Awe, you have a beautiful family! I hope you and both of them are happy, safe, and healthy!
0:01 That roller coaster still survives at the park
Blue Streak
The Skyline is so weird with Millie and Dragster
I meant with out
don't forget about Jungle Larry
Been going since 1964
The footage of your wife and baby (?) is incredibly precious !!!
