Video of Cedar Point amusement park on August 30, 1976. Includes footage of The Corkscrew the year that it opened. Also includes the original Shoot the Rapids and the Bayern Kurve.
It also has the "Frontier Lift" and the original loading point of the "Paddle Wheel Excursion" as seen on the "Giant Ferris Wheel" You had a nice day to "Enjoy your day at Cedar Point".
I really wonder what the Corkscrew was like then. Was it smoother? Has it gotten rougher? Was it always that rough? We’re people more use to roughness back then? So many questions...
I was red white and blue and it went upside down more than any other coaster in the world. I don't think people cared whether it was rough or not back then because all coasters were like that. It was either wooden, or it was Arrow.
Wow there was another sky ride and water under the corkscrews!
Thank you sooooo much for putting this on TH-cam!!! We love CP!! Been going there many many years!!!❤
Video quality is amazing
So cool seeing corkscrew without Iron Dragon or Rougarou.
Was new here and I remember there was 1.5-2 hr waits to get on the Corkscrew. Think it was first Coaster to do 3 times upside down
I was 5 years old in '76. I have fond memories of CP all throughout the 70's. I loved it there!
This is how I remember Cedar Point.
This is some of the best looking footage from the 70's that I have seen yet!
Yes, I agree!
I went there many times during this era. I am sure I rode all those rides. Was a great time.
Hi there! Would it be ok if I used some of this footage in a video I'm making? I'll provide full credit to your channel of course!
By all means go ahead! Please send me a link to the video when it's ready.
76 was the first time i visited CP and i was 13. i've been there every year since then. Great memories and now for my kids too.
I worked that “Shoot the Rapids” ride in ‘85: “...please keep your arms and hands inside the boat at ALL times...”. Was a great place to work!
Thank you for the amazing Bayern Kurve footage!
Yes, thank you! I remember riding it when I was a kid. Good Ole Days!
I remember standing in that long ass line for Shoot the Rapids as a kid.
So many memories!
GREAT for this vintage footage
That Shoot the Rapids hill seemed so much bigger when I was 7.
I remember I was like 3 or 4 when I was here in 76. We camped out in the parking lot
What wonderful memories that brought back. Thank you!
I remember the spider
It is not the Spider it's the Monster
It is not the Spider it's the Monster
Thank you for sharing. The park looks packed, like I remember as a kid.
I had forgotten how many things were painted red, white and blue (usually just for a short while or a year at most) in '76...including the Corkscrew.
It was for America’s bicentennial
It also has the "Frontier Lift" and the original loading point of the "Paddle Wheel Excursion" as seen on the "Giant Ferris Wheel" You had a nice day to "Enjoy your day at Cedar Point".
Awesome footage. You never forget that road beneath Cork Screw coils when the cars would go zipping by suddenly overhead.
Cool nice seeing the Frontier Lift. Corkscrew was probably a 4 hr wait ; I have 8mm 1964 family film uploaded. It started me recording the park ;
I didnt know monster was that old, wow
I really wonder what the Corkscrew was like then. Was it smoother? Has it gotten rougher? Was it always that rough? We’re people more use to roughness back then? So many questions...

Fidel Camuze Ok, thanks!
I remember it always being rough. Your head would go side to side and hit the restraining bar that come down next to your ears. So fun though!
Yes, rode it that year, I do remember it being rough!!
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing, brings back lots of memories. :)
Anyone remember an Annie that worked in the gift shop / the store that sold records?
This is when Cedar Point was FUN. NOT impressed with the way it's being run today
I really miss the old paintjob for the monster. The new one just makes it look too childish for me.
Neat!
My mom was not even born yet😂😂🙄🤣
Lol same
I was working on that!!
