I loved that ride! Well, the ride itself is not as memorable as that sweet furistic glowy dark theme... And yeah, waiting in line was cool with the looks, sounds and ambient music. I miss it

Prior to Disaster Transport it was Avalanche Run. Same ride but without the building around it. That was one of my favorites as a youngster. They enclosed it because sand from the beach was getting blown in and would clog the "track" forcing the ride to shut down.

Cedar Point was a mandatory place to go for summer vacation. Imagine, the Blue Streak is still running. And in May 2024 it will turn 60. I recall putting coins in our pockets to see where they fell. CP is certainly a fun place and always has top notch rides.

I too started in 1973 at age 4. I miss the way CP used to be more family oriented. Yes coasters drawn adrenaline freaks but some of us like a even mix...that is gone now.

Oh man, the nostalgia. I've ridden most of these, as a kid Disaster Transport was my favorite ride there. Top Thrill was cool because it was the closest one could get to the feeling of being shot off an aircraft carrier without joining the Navy. I do remember Mean Streak being a bit rough and getting jostled around quite a bit compared to other coasters.

For god sakes "Cedar point" please don't ever mess with Blue Streak. I love it's beautiful greeting as you drive down the causeway getting close to the park and it,s the most traditional family-friendly thrilling Roller coaster in the park. Although I've ridden every major roller coaster since the early eighties at cedar point.( I got to catch up with three new roller coasters there though)

I agree! For its size, especially compared to all the behemoths in the park, Blue Streak packs a great punch. I lived in Cleveland for three years and got to Cedar Point 2-3 times each year. Blue Streak was always a must ride.

It could use some love. Could use a full retrack, and some paint. Thankfully, it's holding strong as the only wood coaster at the park currently. They should really address that as well. Take out mine ride , and call GCI.

I don't think anyone really knows, but the beachside location does lead to increased wear on rides and their parts. Maybe it couldn't be kept, but some beachside Cedar Point rides from the 70's are still operation at other parks.

Great memories of being a kid in the 60s and a teen in the 70s and going at least once each summer throughout. My most vivid memory, though, is circa 2007. My boys, 8 and 6, were thrilled to go and that year ride roller coasters. As we approached on the midway they were talking up a storm. Before entering, they checked their heights against each coaster that they could ride. We by the tickets, enter the park, and the older one announces that he will not ride any coasters. My wife and I alternated going on coasters with the younger one. The younger one went on everything he could and tried to convince the checkers that he should be allowed to pass because he's only an inch or two short.

I also went on the space spiral, I remember sitting in the shaft looking out of those shaded dark windows looking down at everything from the 265 ft tower. It would be nice to install another one there, maybe 445 ft or so and it could be in frontier town and made of brick with an elevator inside. It would be located right next to millennium force’s former queue line space and next to the train station

Does anyone remember the Rotor, a ride that the floor sinks, and centrifical force holds you in place? I remember a roller coaster called The Wildcat, in the early 1970's, when I went to Cedar Point with my family. I did get on that ride a couple of times, of course, after lengthy waits. The Blue Streak was Thee roller coaster back then. We wanted to go on that, but could not find the end of the line. It is amazing that roller coaster is still running today. I would imagine that with all the state of the art roller coasters of today, that there would hardly be any wait time to get on the Blue Streak these days. They say that you should not ride any roller coaster after eating for at least one hour. I remember seeing people in line for the Blue Streak eating hot dogs, chips, and sodas, but I would imagine that by the time they got on the ride, their food would have had plenty of time to digest. Later that day, by nightfall, we headed back to the Wildcat, but the line for that one was much longer than it was in the middle of the afternoon. I remember overheating somebody tell his father that he wanted go to on the Wildcat, to which his father replied, "I would love to get on it, too, but we'd never get on tonight with all these filthy rats in the way."

Sadly no mention of Jumbo Jet. I was too short when it was at Cedar Point - and when I grew tall enough - it was gone 😞
I loved the Pirate Ride and the old Earth Quake (?) indoor rides as a youngling. Those types of rides were great when the weather turned bad.
(Didn't have cell phones with up to the second weather forecasts back then)
The frontier lift was great for heading for the parking lot when you were at the back of the park around closing time.
Another relaxing ride and good for after eating was the Paddle Wheel boats. I didn't care if the jokes were 10 years old, they were still enjoyable to me.

A wonderfully nostalgic list that reminds me of all the rides that I used to ride. But… You forgot to mention jumbo jet. The twisting spiral up roller coaster that sat where disaster transport eventually sat, and was the first one to go partial inversions, steel track, etc., so it was a combination of small coaster with a lot of speed. it was great to ride, especially as one advanced up the confidence level to bigger roller coasters. The only problem was riding that coaster when mosquito or fish fly season was at its peak. Because riders would often come back with lots of gunk in their teeth.

The Wildcat that you mentioned wasn't the original one. The Original Wildcat opened at Cedar Point in May of 1970, and was removed after the 1978 season. The Wildcat in this video replaced the Ever Popular Jumbo Jet, in 1979 Rollercoaster that you Completely Overlooked. The Original Wildcat that closed at the end of the 1978 season, along with The Jumbo Jet, and the 1979 Wildcat was erected in the spot where The Jumbo Jet once occupied. The 1970-1978 Wildcat was relocated to Valley Fair Amusement, in Shakopee, Minnesota. The Jumbo Jet was a Very Traveled Rollercoaster after leaving Cedar Point, and now resides at an Amusement Park in the city of Minsk in Belarus. BTW, Top Thrill Dragster Trains wasn't launched by LSM''s, but with a Hydraulic Cable Launch System. Top Thrill 2 will use LSM''s the New Three 20 passenger Trains.

      @CoasterConnections  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thanks for the detailed info. I didn’t overlook the original Wildcat or Jumbo Jet, just saving some lost rides for a future video! 😊
And I know about the LSM mistake, but it’s hard to rectify once a video is up. 🤪 The correction was noted in earlier comments. 👍🏻

I remember the opening of white water landing, it was a big deal in its day. Demon Drop was always kind of lame, as it was thrown together to compete against King’s Island. Wildcat was a lot of fun. One of the best of that version of coasters. I used to love Jumbo Jet, it was taken out in the 70s. They had a couple dangerous coasters in the 60s; my aunt and uncle said it was run down, and then turned it around. (The Corkscrew always reminds me of the bicentennial and my head hitting this heavy foam body claps! )

I grew up in central Michigan and my family made a handful of trips down to Cedar Point in the 80’s and 90’s. I haven’t lived in the Midwest for 26 years now, but still get back to visit family a few times a year, and have been back to Cedar Point a few times. While I haven’t always liked Cedar Point/Cedar Fair buying up so many other parks and sometimes closing them as to eliminate any competition and keep Cedar Point as king (such as Geauga Lake), I have a ton of amazing memories from the park. It’s still the king of coaster/thrill ride amusement parks. Almost every year that I went there, there was a brand new, record breaking ride, and it was always exciting. I remember being there the years that the Iron Dragon, Magnum, Mean Streak, Raptor, the then Mantis, and Millennium Force all opened. And I’m pretty sure as I remember that the Blue Streak was the very first roller coaster I ever rode when I was little. I used to get one of their poster sized maps every year that I went, and still have them all to this day. It’s been quite a few years now since I was back to the park, but I’ve been missing it in recent years. I have lived in Orlando for 26 years, so I’m not lacking for theme/amusement parks by any means, but Cedar Point is a different animal, and I miss it.

Geauga Lake Park was actually created by 4 former Cedar Point executives to form Funtime, Inc. An excellent park that never should have been closed by the greed of Cedar Point. They had the lock on all parks in Ohio with Cedar Point, Geauga Lake Park, eventually Wild Water Kingdom and Kings Island.
