    It angers me how this butcher of women & girls kept getting released from prison repeatedly, over mere technicalities, free to kill yet again. Unless I missed something, this documentary failed to explain why he wasn't captured, detained and convicted way back in '67 after he kidnapped and nearly killed that 8-year-old girl. That should have been the end of it. They had his address, which should have identified him. Why didn't they pursue him after that? I watch these shows all the time, featuring cases in the U.S. and the UK, and see this happening again and again, and it makes me crazy. It also leaves the impression that our so-called justice system, and theirs, aren't too serious about protecting women and children from these monsters..

    • @WindTurbineSyndrome
      @WindTurbineSyndrome ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well it's easy to look at things from rearview mirror. The feeling I get is he turned in charm with his parole board hearings in LA and NY. But the justice system failed all the victims after the first one. He was not going to stop. And he was heinous in his murders.

    • @rhiahlMT
      @rhiahlMT ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It was a different time. The Justice system had no clue about 'serial' anything. In one state, you had to have been convicted 3 times before you ever even got a prison sentence of under 2 years. The psychiatric field thought they could be handled with just minor psychiatric therapy. By the late to early 80s the FBI was just catching up on how perverted these guys were. "Mindhunter" on Netflix is a good show on all this, although not particularly accurate.
      I know of a child molester we all reported in late 70s who didn't stick around in a state that changed their laws making conviction easier and with massive jail time. He'd already been in psychiatric treatment in two other states. In this person's case, he went back to a state that had convicted him, sent him through out of custody psychiatric care. He got a job with a major school district. I mean big city type of school district. California has always been one of the worst states for letting people out of jail. Other states allow people on non-violent crime out early if there is overpopulation in prisons. Not California, to this day they let serious offenders out.

      It's because of the liberals/leftists in America.
      They loved criminals better than victims and think:
      "let's give them another chance ! We can rehabilitate him !!"

    My mother and brother swear this creep almost killed them on a hike they took while my father and I were out fishing at a lake that was near his route between LA and Seattle in the late 70's. My mother would have been in her early thirties and my brother would have been 9 or 10. The guy had a large knife he was throwing at a tree on a remote trail. They passed him and received creepy stares from him. A bit of a distance after they passed him my mother decided to turn around and go back as there would be no easy escape if they continued. My mother placed my brother behind her and told him that she would take any attack and for him to run as fast as he could. As they approached him he walked toward them with his knife drawn and an evil grin across his face. As he was closing in and from seemingly out of nowhere, a group of people ran down the trail, freaking the man out and he ran off into the brush and trees. My mother told my brother to run after the party and they took off. I remember the story but it wasn't until recently that my brother and mother said it was Alcala after looking at his mugshot from 1979.

    Yes, I can see why women would be attracted to him enough to get into his car (or however he lured them). His smile was disarming. He’s not particularly handsome, but the long dark hair was so trendy at the time, and he had a way of being engaging. His Latino background gave him more of a “tall, dark, and handsome” look rather than a foreign look. I think the actor who testified here was correct-Alcala was creepy, then when the camera started rolling, he turned on the charming personality. The prosecuting attorney in this video-Matt-is absolutely brilliant and managed to stay focused and finally won. I commend all of the LE and attorneys and finally the juries who worked on these horrific crimes. It is the actual justice system itself that failed us on numerous occasions. How was he out of prison after only 34 months? Several times he was caught only to be released after short periods of time to roam freely, while the person he killed will never get that opportunity. And the death verdict overturned because the defense attorney didn’t visit the crime scene? My God, how can there be so little justice? Is there some kind of check list for things an attorney must do, or are we making this list after the fact and cancelling former cases on our new rules? Speaking of how Acala sought the limelight and appeared on that (evil, imho) program, smiling in an engaging way, making sensual jokes, enjoying the laughter of the audience, drawing people into a false sense of security, etc, reminds me so much of serial-conspiracy-to-commit murder Lori Vallow-Daybell. Being on the game show Wheel of Fortune, the overdone long blond curls, the pageant queen smile (her smile is very pretty and engaging), and general overall sweetness and charm, oh and the podcasting and being the goddess wife of a prophet-yeah, this guy reminds me of Lori.

    Some errors here I think. He got a medical discharge but he was already assaulting women in the army. Also - the cop wasn’t alone when he went to the house. There was another cop watching the back but he moved when the cop at the front found the girl and called out. That’s how Alcala escaped. I think. Tough to know which account is correct

    I remember Cheryl Bradshaw making an appearance on The Gong Show! I'm not certain what year it was exactly, but she did an act where she was counting numbers one at a time while making goofy faces. Later on, I began watching a rerun of The Dating Game where she appeared an inadvertently chose the serial killer. When Cheryl's name was announced by the host and I looked closely at her, I realized that was the woman I saw on The Gong Show!
    It's good to know Cheryl chose not to go out with Rodney! Her life could have been taken by that sadistic creep!
