My Dad was a pastor and he used to beat us almost every day until my mom took us away from him no one knew in the church it was so hard growing up keeping it a secret. When I got into my teens I became atheist due to it. But than the Lord showed me who he was . To not look at man but look at him. I'm so glad these pastors get exposed

I am a Christian. These types of men are common in churches. I don't go to churches except in rare cases. I stay to myself and read the Bible and pray in solitude. I can't be around many people these days but I don't let that stop me from being a believer.

A sad cautionary tale about how badly an abusive relationship can end. I hope those, especially Christians who encourage women to 'endure and pray' realise how easily they can get blood on their hands. Anyone can be gifted. The real thing is to look at their character. That detective was ace! Glad justice was served.
This is also a good lesson in the value of discernment. The church board should never have hired him without a complete background check. The fact that he kept making excuses over missing information should have set alarm bells ringing.

I saw a pastor start chasing the money rather than the truth. Scripture says the love of money is ROOT of all evil, so I told my son we will see the fruit of evil manifest.
He was eventually found to be molesting his little adopted daughter. Eventually he agreed to never preach again to get a plea deal.
Coveteousness is an American sin so prevalent that churches forsake warning about how deadly it is. In fact, they preach in a way that encourages coveteousness.
      Evil.
Scripture says those who love the world and things of it do NOT have the love of Father God.

My husbands cousin is a preacher & he is very charismatic. I don’t trust him & don’t like even being around him. My brother worked at our parent’s church. This man was so abusive to my brother & found out that he was also abusive to his children. My brother did not tell anyone about the ministers until the minister left the church. My folks were just devastated. My mother didn’t want to believe it. The moment I met this preacher, I felt a really bad vibe from this guy. And after my brother told our folks, they believed him because he wouldn’t lie about something like that. Mom was always seeing the good in people. She was betrayed. And my dad was also. They were shocked. And then started to look for a new pastor. It took them 2 yrs.
Just because a person is a man of god, it doesn’t mean he is a good person. These parishioners have to be careful. They want to believe so badly that these people who say they are so good, they are manipulators & sociopaths. I grew up in the Church of God as a little kid. All my problems with how God's Word is taught comes from that church. We were taught to be scared of Satan because he was waiting right outside of the church doors and to be scared of God because he was itching to strike us down. As an adult and a Christian I don't teach my children to be scared of God but to have fear of him and to do what is right.

I feel for the daughters. What a conflicting life. Dad in jail, out of jail, moving around, mother dead and THEN finding out Dad was engaged before mom died. There is a lot to get used to. Years of relative peace, then Dad's arrested again, this time with no mom to help them. The grief and anger must be off the charts. Guessing the medical health system, I don't have any confidence they had any support. The one part that made me the angriest is when he went on "retreat" just months after the mom died - obviously going to get his nooky, leaving his grieving daughters to fend for themselves emotionally. I feel bad that after even hearing the truth, Molly can get suckered into his manipulations to actually marry him. I don't blame her at all; he's a smarmy, manipulative jerk with no conscience. His ability to preach well supports his ability to tell anyone what they want to hear.

Good quality documentary! Even if you already know the plot, you keep watching. Tension is build up, while the story slowly unfolds. Interviews with family and police + replaying of events variation wa very good. Very sad subject off course, poor woman and family....this documentary tells the story with respect and in memoriam....on a high quality level.

I'm not sure if this guy was a psychopath, but there are quite a few psychopaths that are attracted to certain professions, such as being surgeons, CEOs, lawyers, and clergy. If you think about it, all of those professional callings make sense for someone with that psychological makeup. Someone without empathy or remorse and with highly narcissistic traits would likely enjoy the admiration and power that comes with higher positions in religion/churches. They could preach one thing and do another without the slightest shred of guilt. There are certainly wolves among us.

@@pinrod1 I disagree a bit there. No doubt there are lousy and/or psycho officers out there, but I've been close to several who are really good and intelligent people. Family men who have their heart in the right place. Like any profession, it entirely depends. I think many/most people get into police work for the right reasons, but then you have your psychopaths and just plain a-holes who are attracted to the control, power rush and thrill. They enjoy abusing their position of authority. So it entirely depends on individual character. But no doubt many psychopaths are attracted to such professions, including police and fire. It's freaky to think about.

Yeah, for someone lacking capacity of empathy I presume some jobs where you get to see much human misery perhaps are easier. Though for a pastor, where you're expected to have continious relations I would think it more difficult for a psychopath but likely tempting for someone with the predatory mindset (which is not necessary with all psycho- sociopaths).

My uncle is a pastor and he is a very self centered person. He doesn't believe illnesses exist and God can cure them. One time back in 1999 when Pokémon cards came out, he had everyone bring pokemon cards and we burned them in a fire pit (the whole church did) and that was when I first questioned his preaching. I was 14 at the time so I had no choice but to attended. By the time I reached my 20s I quit going to church.

Such a compelling, well-done documentary. Telling the story of the evil in a "good" man is as old as time, but it always draws our curiosity. To me, Janet's sister was the heart of this story. She was so wise in her observations and so steadfast in seeking justice for her sister. My prayers for Janet's daughters is that their hearts have healed enough to have found happiness in their lives. Besides Janet, they have paid the highest price for this man's sin and shame.

This brought back memories. My husband and I had a charismatic pastor like this when we were a young married couple. He was building our church up. Started a building project. Everyone thought he was the bee’s knees. Flocked to him. My husband and I began having some reservations about him. Things weren’t adding up. I remember walking into the foyer one day and a married woman from the congregation was standing close in front of him and looking up into his face, laughing. He was looking down into her face, smiling widely. It would have been normal if she were his wife, but this woman was NOT his wife. They weren’t even aware of my presence. It was a cozy “lovebird” moment. This little scene really began alarm bells jangling in my head, but I kept it to myself. Meanwhile, the elders of the church adored him. He was getting wonderful things accomplished!!! The community was taking note!!! Fast forward-a local businesswoman had her business lines connected with her home phone lines. This pastor was using her business property temporarily for a church function. She was shocked when she picked up her phone and listened to a torrid conversation between this pastor and a woman she knew clearly wasn’t the pastor’s wife. She began taking notes. This happened multiple times over a course of several days. Whenever she went to pick up her phone to use it, there they would be, laughing and sharing intimate details about their affair. She sat on this information for quite some time, not knowing what to do. Finally she approached the church board. The church board, not wanting to get rid of the pastor, began telling the congregation that the pastor had had a nervous breakdown. The pastor quickly resigned and moved far away. To this day I don’t think that the woman’s husband (the woman involved in the affair with him was the woman I saw laughing up into his face in the foyer) was ever told. I don’t believe the pastor’s wife was told the truth, either. My husband was the youngest board member and tried valiently to persuade the board to do things the right way; we as a family were treated in such a despicable and disgusting fashion that we had to leave the church. One of the board elders? It was his daughter-in-law that was having the affair with the pastor, and he didn’t want it found it. He was furious with my husband when my husband said that we needed to minister to the marriages involved in this affair. He wanted it hushed up. The whole board hushed it up. Tried to command my husband to tell the lie that they themselves began to tell-that the pastor had a nervous breakdown. That board and congregation wanted to keep this man that was causing such growth to their church!! To this day, all across that denomination, people will believe that this man had a nervous breakdown, even if the truth is shared. He and that woman carry a horrible secret. I have so so many details I cannot write down here. This man was a smooth liar, master manipulator, and charming speaker. He loved to tell jokes and always had the congregation laughing. I always felt bad for his wife. She always had a timid way about her, white face. I never saw him laughing down at her with adoration. They were always apart from one another-even drove separate vehicles to church. Anyway, beware of charismatic pastors! They may be wolves in sheep’s clothing, preying on your wife!😂
