I mean this with the upmost respect I just moved to Alienware 240hz 1080p and I can tell a difference big time, I can only imagine how a 4K 240hz would look 😩😩😩
The G7 sucks. The screen would flicker and after getting RMA, Black screens would randomly happen. If you set the monitor to 240hz, the latency is atrocious for esports. I had to connect an HDMI instead, but now I have a ripple or a wave that starts from the top of the screen and ends at the bottom. The tearing is random and seems to get better with a better HDMI. I wouldn't go for the headache, my two cents.
@TheMoises1213 ps5s don't run true 4k or mostly even 120fps most of the time. If you want to run true 4k at 120fps or 240fps you need a rtx 4090 or Intel 9 imo. The truth is that consoles are no where near PC performance
Makes perfect sense if you can afford it. Even when you don't get 240hz on games, you will get it everywhere else. Using your PC on a day to day basis benefits from the 240hz panel. The only downsides I see to this monitor is that it does not come with DisplayPort 2.0, and that it is not OLED. I am not entirely sure why it can't be driven at 240hz on their HDMI 2.1 ports because those have a lot more bandwidth than DisplayPort 1.4 and I thought they could also use DSC. But every other complaint I see is mostly price related.

Looks like it's $880 now on Amazon. Thinking about taking the plunge if it's still the same price next month. Been using a 65" LG C1/4090 and tired of sitting so far away from my screen.
It seems that the G8 has a coating that reduces reflections better than the G7. And it is precisely because of this fact that increases the comfort of work and play that I chose the G8 over the G7. And of course, because of VRR flicker, it is worth setting the refresh limit to 120Hz permanently. The spare power will not be wasted - it will go to lower delays after activating, for example, the VRR anti-flicker filter. I guess that the difference in price is largely due to the power of the processor and the matrix coating. What do you think?
Great review. Did you notice any screen flickering with G-Sync? I have an older Odyssey which has 3 presets (off, adaptive sync 1, and version 2)- if I use version 2, the screen flickers with G-sync enabled. I bought another Samsung model about 2 years ago that only had one version of Adaptive sync, and it was the version that flickered with G-sync.
Hey! Thanks for the comment. I saw flickering twice during my review period (I mention it in my written review). I wasn't able to recreate the issue after several hours of testing, though.
I have this monitor now for a month or so maybe slightly longer, it's paired with a 6900xt which is undervolted and oced to reach 6950XT speeds and matches the 3090TI or beats it depending on the title, I have Resizable BAR enabled with a 5800x3d and 3733MHz CL14 custom tuned memory in dual rank configuration. All in all a very fast PC. While it's true that newer titles on maximum settings will not run 240Hz, people forget that you don't need to run on absolutely maxed out settings at 4K, you can easily run high settings or even a mix of medium / high settings and it still looks great. Coupled with technologies like FSR and DLSS you can even get more "free" performance without too much sacrifice. I personally enjoy playing lots of indie titles and even older titles where I can easily reach 240 FPS locked. It's an awesome feeling when running these kind of framerates at 4K. 32 Inch brings that much more immersion compared to 27 Inch and the increase in resolution means less jagged edges and farther viewable distance. And the refresh rate means smoother picture and less motion blur when moving the camera around. This all comes with a price tag, but it's worth it in my opinion.
yes well said. But what do you mean with "increase in resolution means less jagged edges"? You meaing the shimmering edges in games that are sometimes/often visible? I have a problem with these personally on my 27inch 1440p screen.
@@G-O-A-M It's exactly like aliasing, the resolution of 3840x2160 means less aliasing. 1440P is nice but it still has lots of aliasing and it doesn't show the detail in long range distances like 4K does. You get 4x MSAA by default pretty much running at 4K is what I'm getting at. You don't need to use MSAA or any anti aliasing at higher resolutions as much.
In a world where you can OC a 6900xt that's already at a 3080 level and it is now faster than a 3090ti. Oh wait, you're one of those fan bots that refuses to see that the 6950xt is as good as a 3080ti. You don't know what a performance average is, you base it on 4 games. Yikes "But it bets a 3090ti in this AMD funded game!" What I'm wondering is why did you say you OC'ed it and now it's at 6950xt speeds and then claim it matches a 3090ti or beats it after that????? Which is it?? It can't be both LMAO. I'm going to get the 6950xt now, based on your story I should be able to OC it to 4090 speeds.

OK so 1500.00 for monitor and like 4k for a pc that can run 4k at over 120 fps plus hardware = like 6k to play games on pc now! I've been a pc gamer for over 30 years but at 600.00 for an xbox and less than 1000.00 for decent 4k tv , makes pc gaming a niche now. Life has gotten ridiculously expensive and right now I'd rather eat and pay my mortgage then pay over 6k to play the two maybe three games I play like once a week. Rip pc gaming
I just bought the G8 today after trying out the odyssey G7 and seeing how it compared to my now old Acer Predator XB3. The Odyssey G7 is a fantastic monitor that only lacks the deeper blacks of the Acer and not by much.
@@ayjie6829 other than the curve of the G8 they look very similar (G8 is white). I just wish the rear LED was a bit brighter like the G7. Both are very good monitors.
@nizararena No, I'm not using it anymore. Not because it was bad or anything, I thought it might be the cause of an issue I was having causing black screens trying to enter the bios or going into safe mode which turned out to be my anti virus (Bitdefender) which locks the PC down completely. I was actually pretty sad I returned it since there was nothing wrong with it and I got it on sale for $1200 instead of the normal &1400. It's on sale for $900 now and I'm debating getting it again since I've been happy with the odyssey G7. I still highly recommend the Neo odyssey G8 though, that thing was beast mode for my i9 13900k + rtx 4090 👍
I’m going with this, because my brother bought a sweet LG OLED in July 2024 and by November he had burn in in the middle of his screen it looked like shadow in a red screen
In Ultrawide mode does it reduce the pixels rendered? From a 1080p user having a dilemma between 1440p or 4K for a hybrid work at home and gaming setup lol.
I had this monitor for a few days and returned it. The matte coating is awful and kills the deep blacks. The curve is also too aggressive. The combination of the two really kills the contrast- especially in the corners of the FOV. Also, the local dimming is noticeable with a dark background on the windows menu. That last point I can let slide but the first two are deal breakers. If this screen were semi gloss or gloss and had less/no curve, I'd keep it.

Only grabbed this because it was $999 on black Friday and for some reason they let me use a 10% coupon i had on it as well. So 899! Lol, I'm running it with a ps5, so overkill is the word! To get the advantage for 4K at 240fps you need to get the RTX 4090 or wait for RX 7900 XTX, also lower graphics settings to achieve 240fps in most of the games.

Honestly future proofing with your monitor makes more sense than with any other component. I'd rather have an overkill monitor and a GPU that can't keep up, than a overkill GPU on a crappy monitor. The monitor is going to look great doing everything, not just gaming, and the GPU is only good for gaming, and is just as upgradable
Any suggestion for me - i do love gaming but not to a degree of building super duper rig for it, and i intend to use it with a macbook pro m2 max for some mild gaming via parallels - but mostly need it for productivity type stuff - design for the most of it... photohsop, illustrator, web stuff and general work but feel the need for sharpness and decent color accuracy. gaming is nice but on the second front and so i would probably be connecting with the xbox to it.

QQ: when u bought it and set it up the first time do u remember what was the brightness out of box? Mine was at 13 and I could barely see anything. I had to turn it up all the way to 100. If i put brightness below 70, i cant see anything, i have to turn of all lights in the room to be able to see anything. Also when I turn on HDR screen brightness becomes dimmer than SDR mode, even though at HDR i have turned brightness to 100. Did u notice any of these in ur NEO G8 display or am I the unlucky one to get the bad bacth ? Netflix, youtube etc all the do not recognise my monitor to be HDR and never show me that option even though HDR and Stream HDR is turned on in windows.
the 32" OLEDs coming later this year aren't 4K because they still cant output it on OLED for pc monitors, go figure. Also, I don't like paying $1500+ for monitors that can still get burn in. NO THANKS! Mini LED is still KING for brightness and HDR gaming with NO burn-in for now... until something better comes along!
how many nits is the max brightness with autobrightness turned off with hdr on and hdr off? I don't like autobrightness on displays since they are too dim. I prefer 1000 nits or more.
The one actual problem I've heard about Neo G8 is that some people have experienced odd screen rips down the middle, which Samsung does not warranty (says its "physical damage"). Heard of this?
It’s actually not true.. yes it’s unlikely to get burn in on the display type but it ain’t impossible… With that said seeing it on sale right now it’s a fantastic buy especially for me because I’m waiting for QD OLED to fix the purple look and perhaps a bit brighter.. both should make them more usable in a room with normal light.. my oled TV loook fantastic as long as the window directly ahead of it is closed.. otherwise light really doesn’t effect it.
I’m glad it’s not OLED, as I don’t wanna keep avoiding burn-ins. And also for editing and designing, OLED isn’t great at production level colour accuracy.

@@matthewrezuke8130 Went with the Neo G7 instead, 42" too large for my needs. But I may end up buying one too for when I have people over and want to play with multiple people. I am stationed at a desk with the Neo G7 and I love it! Thanks for your feedback I defs saw the LG C2 as the only other option. The Neo G8 his having way too many Quality Control issues, and the 240hz is great but the PS5 can't output that.
I bought this monitor about 2 weeks after it launched for $1091 USD after promotional launch and other discounts. Glad I did as it never went down that much even during this Black Friday sales. It's a superb gaming monitor. It might not get exactly OLED like contrast, but it gets very close. I have this paired with an RTX 3090 and Ryzen 5950X. I may not get 240Hz all the time gaming at 4k res but I'm not particularly worried about that. I just like having the headroom for it. It's better to game and get 160-200 FPS on a 240Hz monitor than on a 144-165Hz monitor that clips those fps gains. While the Samsung Neo G8 is an awesome monitor, it does have its flaws. The main one is the scanlines that are present when playing at 240hz. It's not very noticeable and hardly perceptible if you at least sit at arm's length away from the screen but it's definitely there. This doesn't bother be that much. The thing that bothers me the most is that my custom settings randomly resets when changing inputs. My Neo G8 is connected to 3 devices---my main gaming PC (Windows), my mini PC for work & school (Linux), and Steam Deck. Switching inputs gets my custom Color settings randomly resetted. The other settings such as Brightness and Contrast are kept, just the Color ones. This is despite having the latest firmware (version 1003). Occasionally I would check the Neo G8's support download page if they finally have a new firmware update and as of this writing, they don't. Another thing I didn't like about Samsung is their notorious bad QC. Mine came with a 3-inch scratch (looks like it was done by a razor blade) on the bottom left bezel. Good thing it wasn't on the actual screen. There are also 3 dirt spots that are as big as a pixel inside the screen. They are not dead/bright/stuck pixels. They are simply pixel size dirt. At the end of the day, the Samsung Neo G8 is an excellent gaming monitor with specs to vouch for it. I didn't go the OLED route on a monitor since I keep a lot of static images/windows/apps on my screen and I'm afraid of having burn-in issues. For TV though, I recently bought a 77" LG C2 OLED and have no regrets on both build quality, features, and screen performance on that one.
** Here is all my favorite settings list of both SDR and HDR ** I tell you guys this Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 is very good monitor. But... You have to know how to work the options on the monitor itself to be able to get these visuals! But if you got the G7 Neo model then just try see if that good for you... This is very important settings with " Saturation " this give more color for to both SDR and HDR. Well, best settings is Saturation with 58 or 60 or 70. I use 70 for both SDR and HDR. Depending on which movies or games to run. See and test what is fit well best. Also important that " Local Dimming " to High or Auto. Sometimes better use with High and sometimes better use Auto, depend on. But you need use both High and Auto, However use often with High. If you like can use also with Low, but i never use Low. "Local Dimming" is important for both SDR and HDR. This thing has do with Mini-LED. You can change " Contrast Enhancer " On or Off, if you like it. " Black Equalizer " 13 is great but you can change from 9 to 16 or up to 20 if you like it. 9 to 16 is great " Contrast " with 75 and 80, 90 and 100 fine. You can change Gamma Mode 1 or 2 or 3. I use 1 and 2. Even you can change " Color Tone " I use Normal and Warm 1 and Natural. " Adaptive-Sync " is On this is good thing so you can use with G-Sync Compatible to enable if you wanna it. But make sure turn off V-Sync in game. If off G-Sync, you can use V-Sync. I don't use G-Sync due they are not support to all games also i don't need that. You can have " Adaptive-Sync " on and without use G-Sync and just enable V-Sync. If you turn off " Adaptive-Sync " You can use with " Response Time " and " Low Input Lag ". I don't use " Low Input Lag " Just keep on " Adaptive-Sync ". If you turn on " Adaptive-Sync " will work run with G-Sync or FreeSync. HDMI or DisplayPort both work to run with G-Sync or FreeSync. My " VRR Control " is On. Well better use with HDMI than DP. HDMI can get 12-bit color, with a lot color than 10-bit. But make sure set on output color depth 12-bit SDR in PC. This monitor model HDMI 2.1 get only 120Hz max at 4K. If guys wanna run with DisplayPort at 240 Hz but get only 10-bit color. This monitor support 12 bit color, That Amazing... If you run HDMI on PC and don't forget turn off HDMI audio in Nvidia Control Panel or in Sound Control Panel, If you wanna use from motherboard audio ports or PC sound card. If you have problem monitor like when is flickering or glitching or other just turn off power in OSD buttons then turn on power. If this not help then just restart PC in Windows. Then is all good again. I think DP is better than HDMI for that Samsung Neo Odyssey G8. Almost zero issues for flickering or nothing at all. I think HDMI got more issue. This is just small problem, not big deal. I did try only with PC Windows DP & HDMI. I don't know about with Consoles at HDMI if have problem with flickering or other. It's not noticeable in most games unless you're looking at a uniform color or very gentle gradient. But when looking at static images like icons, especially blue or yellow colors it's very noticeable. So when not gaming I have to lower the refresh rate to 120hz which completely gets rid of the scanlines. However the refresh rate pairs excellently with a 4090. The card is so powerful that just about every game runs over 120hz, so the 240hz rate really is useful. The HDR is also great on it, second only to an OLED. It just makes me wish for a 4k 240hz OLED even more. I'd say def worth the $1k I got it at, but not really worth the $1.5k it's normally sold for.
I have the Alienware OLED and quite honestly it's not a great FPS Gaming monitor. Some people aren't as limited as you would suggest, I'm looking for probably the LG / Corsair 45-in OLEDs pairing with an EK cooled RTX 4090 and i9-13900K to replace my RTX 3090 and i7-12700K; CPU-Z 9MM3CZ My biggest complaint this year and it's always something is that the RTX 4090 doesn't have DisplayPort 2.x which is pretty damn stupid on Nvidia's part. Last year the problem was no DDR5 which is why I returned my i9 and did a cheaper build.
What would you say about using this monitor with : AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor 16.0 GB RAM RTX 3070ti I currently have the Neo G9 49'' and is awesome, but i cannot get used to it's Ultrawide size.. Nice review!

Not really, if you plan to do productive work also on that screen for 8h+ a day than i wouldn´t want to go with OLED to risk burn-in after a while / few years.
I just got the LG ultra gear 48 inch OLED and at the same price I'll take that and lose the refresh rate. 120hz is fine for me and you can overclock it to 138
I love bigger monitors and TVs such as 48 inches with HDR & high refresh rate, 120Hz is not enough for me am thinking about 240Hz or The 360Hz with Gsync or freesync might come next year ❤❤

I have the G9 Neo with a 4090 been looking for a 4K monitor for games that take advantage of 4K. I’m stuck between this and an Oled since I already have an Ultrawide monitor.
Samsung needs to make the neo oled 4k. Only way im jumping ship from my neo. ITs an amazing monitor even paired with my 6900xt. Trying to get my hands on a 4090 at msrp.
@@YoungWise2011 yes I agree I just picked up the ASUS ROG PG48UQ, and games look amazing on it. Keep checking Best Buy they have had some stock in the last week come and go for the 4090.
Id rather have a 27 inch 1440p version of this. Too expensive hardware to run it, and well, the monitor is quite expensive itself. And also, the Alienware UltraWide oled is better and cheaper for most people.
I can definitely see why 240hz is just slightly overkill however, great overview of this monitor 100% checking out the G7 as well!
I mean this with the upmost respect I just moved to Alienware 240hz 1080p and I can tell a difference big time, I can only imagine how a 4K 240hz would look 😩😩😩
Isn't there bandwidth limitations if HDMI 2.1 and DP 1.4 maxes out at 120/144 fps at 4K? How is 240hz even possible?
Like with anything new in pc gaming its about future proofing
their oldest Odyssey g9 not even Neo was already 240hz and 49 inches and cheaper.
I swapped out two monitors for this beast, no regrets. The quality is just phenomenal.

I just ordered it, did I make a good choice for ps5?
@TheMoises1213 it's really good for console. The issue is that you're not utilizing its full potential unless you want to get a PC in the future
@@An_Enraged_Pig 4k 120 is the limit for p5 so I don’t mind future proofing
The Samsung G8 have no problem use 240 hz hdmi or DisplayPort

Good timing sold one to a shopper yesterday and didn't know too much! So be cool to learn if I should get one over the G7 Neo.

I had this monitor for a few days and returned it. The matte coating is awful and kills the deep blacks. The curve is also too aggressive.
Quick question. Can you set the monitor to 1440p to get 240hz working?
@@Kizzster Lol. Get the Odyssey G7 if you want 1440p 240hz. This is massively overpriced for that.

** Here is all my favorite settings list of both SDR and HDR **
I tell you guys this Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 is very good monitor.
9 to 16 is great
" Contrast " with 75 and 80, 90 and 100 fine.
You can change Gamma Mode 1 or 2 or 3.
I use 1 and 2.
Even you can change " Color Tone "
I use Normal and Warm 1 and Natural.
I did read from someone comment and he said about Scanlines problem..
===========================================================================
What i learned watching hours of reviews
240HZ = GAMING ONLY (Scanlines are not noticeable while gaming )
120HZ = OFFICE WORK / VIDEO (Eliminates scanlines)
*Get used to scaling your MONTIOR depending on the type of work you are doing.
*SWITCH TO 240hz while GAMING
* SWITCH TO 120hz while doing OFFICE WORK
===========================================================================
You know that settings on SDR will have different settings save from HDR on, If you run HDR will have other settings save.
So you can have two options SDR and HDR settings for saves. Great right?

Hello, I wanted to ask about your experience with this monitor. There is a mention on the Rtings website about a VRR flicker issue when frame rates change significantly. Have you encountered this problem during your use of the monitor?
Additionally, I am planning to use it with an RTX 4090. Do you think this combination could cause any issues? Lastly, in your opinion, is this monitor a good choice for someone who prioritizes performance and smooth visuals? Thank you in advance for your response!"@@ahmadsultankadir1
Mini led can show pure black just like an oled because they can turn off the backlight zones, what they can't do as well is have small bright highlights next to pure black areas without getting some light blooming. in a lot of scenarios a mini led image in hdr can look identical to oled its just in those darker scenes with small bright highlights that mini led suffers.
i have a 4090 and a 13900ks, rn im debating between this and the new 57" G9 which is basically just two of these things strapped together as one monitor. i think ill stick with this one because i like having some desk space at all.
I got the 32' G8 for my 4090 and 13900k. Absolutely no regrets, its been ~6 months and 0 issues with the monitor.
I don't know if I got lucky with the unit or what. Also got a dual gas loaded Arm for this monitor
And yea, got it for less than 1000$ so no other monitor comes even close to this deal

@@digitaliceblast It can do 240hz with 4090.
The default DP cable is good but kinda short in length. I got a longer one from Ugreen
@@_robyn_ right out the box? I don't need to download any third party software? I have the g9 57 inch but it's locked at 120hz. I'm so disappointed. I'll definitely pick up the g8
I have this monitor after waiting for 10 years to upgrade. Let me just say this. Once you have a taste of this monitor and you spend some time with it fully utilizing it for gaming, web browsing, and everything else trust me when i say…theres no going back to anything else. I paired this monitor with a completely new rig. I913900 and ofccourse the rtx 4090. Im getting more snipes in bf2042 than i ever had before and i run it in 4k 240hz getting around 100-180fps
Also let me say this. You dont have to go to oled. The g8 oled they r coming out with has less than 240hz i think its like 175hz. But the non oled va G8 panel is buttery smooth 240hz with the monitor feel. You really only need oled for non gaming in my opinion.
But can it do 240hz, doesnt 4090 only have displayport and this hdmi?
Dude your statement in your comment in my exact situation im in. I want to wait for G8 OLED but I’m not wanting to go from 240hz back down to 175hz. I also don’t wanna have to babysit a OLED monitor and walk away wondering, “Did my screen saver come on”

Well as someone coming from a 1440p OLED considering this because I fear the burn in, does the Ultrawide setting effectively make it 1440p? I can afford a quality monitor for working from home, and gaming, but I can't afford that 4090 lol. My PSU only supports my 4070.
Think getting this for a ps5 is overkill?
I'm in the market for my first gaming monitor, i currently have the Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo15 laptop (RTX 3080)
My question is: Should I buy the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 monitor or look for something else?
I've owned one now for over a month it's beautiful to play on. I've been playing god of war ragnarok and modern warfare 2 at 4k 120hz on a ps5.
0:50 to point out, since the 4090 is using an old display port standard, you won't be able to go past 4k at 120hz using 24 bit color.
I'm patiently waiting for a good 4k oled monitor (no, the 42 inch asus isn't a proper monitor as it's way too big to fit on a desk)

@@GrayEyesWorld I know this comment was made one month ago as of the time that I am replying to you, but if you happen to see this I was curious to ask you what is the verdict on your monitor paired with your updated rig?
@@ichbinari No worries. I very much like this monitor, even though it has a few intrinsic flaws. The biggest one is scanlines at 240hz.
I got this on sale 999 aus
I don't say it is overkill. It is future proof. It is absolutely amazing
I have the Alienware OLED and quite honestly it's not a great FPS Gaming monitor. Some people aren't as limited as you would suggest, I'm looking for probably the LG / Corsair 45-in OLEDs pairing with an EK cooled RTX 4090 and i9-13900K to replace my RTX 3090 and i7-12700K; CPU-Z 9MM3CZ
My biggest complaint this year and it's always something is that the RTX 4090 doesn't have DisplayPort 2.x which is pretty damn stupid on Nvidia's part. Last year the problem was no DDR5 which is why I returned my i9 and did a cheaper build.
Best monitor for next gen consoles
What would you say about using this monitor with :
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor
