Listening to Glenn Tiptons. Guitar solo is a orgasam on its own
The whole song is a great O !
Played this song at my husband's memorial. And four months later at my daughter's wedding . Love Priest ! Saw them 13 times live.

The thing I love the most in watching reacts to Painkiller, is to see the youtuber all innocent, not knowing that their concept of Heavy Metal is about to being demolished, and that the bar will be raised to an unbeliveable new height.

The album 'Painkiller' came at a difficult time in Judas Priest's career... thrash metal had become popular in 1988/ '89 and Priest was facing diminishing popularity. On top of that, they were sued in Nevada for 'inspiring' a double suicide of 2 of their fans... their longtime drummer Dave Holland had quit the band. So, their anger & frustration boiled over into the music and they delivered their most frenetic, ripping record 'Painkiller' w/ new drummer Scott Travis making his mark.
Priest was in court for weeks as they had to defend themselves against a ludicrous suit w/ their career at stake. Thankfully, they were acquitted of wrongdoing, but Rob Halford (and the band) said it was a terrible experience... 'Painkiller' did not sell initially, but in 1991 as the band went on tour w/ Pantera opening, the record took off and went gold (half million copies) in the US.
By 1992, Rob Halford was exhausted and wanted to take a break... he recorded a solo album under the Fight moniker, then shocked the world by announcing he was leaving Judas Priest. He would finally find is way back to Judas Priest in 2004... Priest recorded 2 albums w/ vocalist Tim 'Ripper' Owens (who is now the singer of former Priest guitarist K.K. Downing's new band K.K.'s Priest)

My dad told me when PAINKILLER album came up back in 1990 it caught everybody off guard; even Judas Priest fans didn't expect to be hit like this...
With this song and this album, the band took the heavy metal to the category of the fine arts.

When fans got a mullet wearing Halford singing something dull songs like Turbo Lover and Ram it Down not giving much better, Painkiller was a face melting return to Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith in both look and sound.

This song is the definition of heavy-metal. Timeless classic. DEATH did a great cover of this one. ANGRA too. Recently, LOVEBITES released a wicked cover of this one. A few years ago... Yuki from D-Drive did an awesome guitar cover of it. I bought this CD back when it came out. I have heard it many times. I tried to play this on guitar, but too many parts are above my skill level.

This album was Priest's answer to the rise of thrash metal in the 80s.
Priest themselves had been accused of going a bit soft and following the hard rock trends of the time. But with 'Painkiller' they decided to throw down the gauntlet to all other metal bands and say: "Okay, kids. You want metal... then beat this!"

This song is a Modern Classic. It marks a huge departure from previous Judas Priest writing and songs with the addition of the new drummer from RacerX and sets a mold for the Metal Power shred we enjoy today. Judas Priest has been out since 1970'sh btw. Many people cover this but few can pull it off. Lovebites does a Great cover of this as well as the band Angra. You have to remember this was early 1990's at the height of Grunge. 100 years from now this song will still be Lit.

@@ricdale7813 Actually Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden all released their breakthrough albums in the later half of 1991 and then reached their top in the charts in 1992. AIC and Mother Love Bone were arguably breaking through somewhat earlier but 1990, when Painkiller was released, was not the year 'grunge defeated Radio metal'. If you really like guitar solos and I mean really like guitar solos listen to the Scorpion's Sails of
Charon where Uli Roth is just basically wrecking his guitar throughout and he is doing it like I
take a walk through the park. Just an epic performance.

darling wen u C band members in synch with each other moving back and forth up and down it's called head banging and it originated all the way back 2 the '70s with Kizz. This is a classic metal song and one of my favorite CDs.

About ballads: Dreamer Deceiver! Beyond the realms of death! And of course you have to listen Victim of Changes, it's not a ballad but very interesting song where Rob use all the power and variability of his voice

A Judas Priest ballad, eh? Well, you'd really have to go back to their earlier (pre-1980) albums. Here's a couple of suggestions: "Diamonds and Rust," or "Beyond the Realms of Death."

That first solo...Jesus Fucking Christ...I really like the shorter second one too. It is really unique. It's this weird pastiche of seemingly unrelated phrases that no one else would even think to do there: "Here's this! Try this! How about this?" It sounds deranged...

This is considered "deep end" Priest... it's one of their heaviest, fastest, screechiest songs.. and it doesn't really represent most of their career. Since the late 1960s, Priest tended to change styles every few years.. this was the early 90s when all but the heaviest metal bands were dropped by MTV and they had to compete with the likes of Pantera and Metallica, so they went all in on the "heavy".

Have you heard of Wintersun? Jari Maenpaa has an amazing voice as well. Most people will say start off with Sons Of Winter but I say start off with the baladfrom the Forest Seasons album Loneliness (Winter). The song is 12 and a half minutes of musical beauty. Nevermind, I just found your videos of them. You should do Loneliness (winter) by them. It's my favorite song by them. I listen to it on repeat.
