Gay, sober, and still nailing it at 73 years old! They don’t call him the metal god for nothing. Rob Halford is one of the greatest metal singers of all time.
Thankfully he didn't get Fauci'd in the 80-90s like Freddie and thousands of others.
Saw them this year when they were in Frankfurt, Germany. They kicked ass. Painkiller sounded great for his age! Sounded great through the whole concert to be fair. And they had Ian mixed really well. Could hear the growling bass pretty good.

Painkiller is a thrash album. Judas Priest is a NWOBHM band who decided they would just casually put out a classic thrash metal album right at the subgenres peak.
The greatest metal song ever and forever. Killer drum intro, incomparable soaring vocals, greatest metal guitar solo, 2nd solo and as outro finishes one's not sure what just happened, flabbergasting.

This was something of a comeback album for Priest, a full-throated demand that the thrash scene they had helped spawn give them their just due. Big part of that was new addition Scott Travis' fully modern metal drum attack. This album cannot exist without him.

This song is considered the paradigm of metal, how the "perfect" metal song sounds like, the epitome of a genre condensated in one song. Tempo changes, instrumental prowess, insane technical skills. As for the lyrics, I didn't pay attention really when I first heard the song: I was 14 and it just blew my mind. It was 1994: radios were all about Nirvana while I, instead, listened to this stuff (and other metal gods, like Iron Maiden) 😂

Judas Priest aren't even a thrash metal band. They're literally the first band to call themselves a heavy metal band.
I was lucky enough to see Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and judas priest in the same tour years ago and I consider Judas Priest to be up there with one of my favorite bands I’ve been able to see live.
This song is, simply put, therapeutic.

Beyond the Realms of Death is a great Priest song for you to react to as a therapist. It's a complex song that deals with the theme of depression and death. The lyrics depict a man who is deeply withdrawn and possibly catatonic, longing to escape from his existence's pain.
There's some ambiguity about whether the escape is literal death by suicide, or a figurative death, a retreat into himself. The song doesn't glorify suicide, and Halford has said it's more about the withdrawal and isolation that depression can cause.
In 2016 Rob Halford performed this song on stage with BABYMETAL and they both killed it together. Her voice compliments his so well, it was a great performance.

And the name of the song and album comes from Rob Halford's (the singer) suicide attempt 4 years prior to that album due to his depression and addiction problems, partially related to being in the closet. After the attempt failed, he sought help and stopped drinking and taking drugs
Im 30 and 25 years ago Judas Priest was my introduction to Metal by my uncle and just last year i introduced my 5 year old nephew to Judas Priest and metal and hopefully one day he will do as I and my uncle before me did past it on

You should check out Fight. Rob Halford left Judas Priest for some years and recorded two albums with his band Fight. It also features Judas Priest drummer Scott Travis and Russ Parrish (Satchel from Steel Panther). I suggest Into The Pit or Nailed To The Gun. Both live from Sony Studios. Contortion are another great one. Halford also did 2wo. An industrial metal band featuring guitarist John 5 known for Marilyn Manson and Motley Crue. And of course his band Halford.

I saw Judas Priest in the summer of 1991 during their Painkiller tour at Irvine Medows Ampitheater in southern California at a festival called Operation Rock and Roll. The other major bands that played that day was Motorhead and Alice Cooper!

Totally. I still just look back at Judas Priest and this song being so awesome, then the Liberace moment sets in. All that leather and studs, Rob comes out and hesher minds instantly blow up. Still didn't care, saw Rob's new band "Fight" open for Anthrax in Chicago somewhere around 1994 and loved them both the same. "Into the Pit" and "Caught in a mosh" in the same night? hell yes! That's the thing...music fans really don't care about all that other stuff and are a family having fun to the exact same passion.
Talking about mental health, lets talk about metal health. Metal is a world so open, that even everybody sort of knew Rob Halford was gay, it was never a topic or an issue. He decided to "come out" very late, only to encourage people that was in the closet because they feared the consequences of coming out. So there you have it, another cool fact from Rob Halfod wholesomeness.

Painkiller is the ultimate smack song and album after they were being told going too soft with Turbo and Ram it Down.
I have serious anxiety issues (Clonazepam) and this type music helps me a lot. Especially in the car with the bass drums thumping. Gotten me through some tough times.
The mental health system here is terrible, I get anxiety worrying if I'm going to get my next prescription, they'll only give a month supply at a time and more often than not I have to go through days without because it's not in stock or for some crazy reason my pee test failed. Had to sign a contract with the physician and can only get it at one specific pharmacy.
I'm almost at the of stopping taking, that never turns out well.

What most people don't know is most of the hidden meaning behind Robs lyrics are related to his not being able to tell the public that he is gay. Listen to turbo lover. He is one of the greatest ever. Also one of the first to come out and publicly walk in a pride parade.

Well I remember exactly 1986 and Judas and Metallica and many more, what a great year ... I didn't though that was really so great for music and all, just another year. But I am sad that new generation have not such music and they look at the past, my generation was lucky with great music now remain as classic ... all is a "dust in the wind" as Kansas song, another giants form 70-80s.

I spent my younger days playing music up and down the east coast and Hollywood. I have spent the last three years teaching her the importance of music, movies and pop culture as an escape from trauma. "Beyond the Realms of Death", "Victim of Changes" both songs are part of Judas Priest's album "Unleashed in the East" from 1979 Are but two songs by Judas Priest that helped me deal with the internal pain I was trying to sort through.

This song speaks absolute truth. 30 years ago I was a cocaine addict. Was addicted for 10 years. Thank God i came to my senses and got help. I have been clean for 30 years. If I could get out one message it would be......if you've never tried drugs please don't. It totally destroys your life and mind. If you are addicted please get help.
