This album came out in 1990. At that time people thought that Priest was basically over and the new generation had completely taken over. And then they did this. A band that had started making music in the early 70s dropped an album that kicked every single metal band's butt and showed them how it's done. Nothing short of legendary. And they're still going. In 2018 they brought out Firepower, which for a lot of people was the metal album of the year. They had a hand in inventing and defining metal and over their nearly 50 year career they've reinvented themselves and metal along with it countless times. This band is an absolute phenomenon and the discography is absolutely impressive. There's very few bands where I'm able to listen to the whole effing catalogue on repeat without getting bored and where it's not "more of the same" at one point or the other.

There are so many flavours to Judas Priest you can't just box them into a single category. Most people never get to taste them all but I did and I know their repertoire includes some absolute face melters (Painkiller, Metal Meltdown, Ram It Down, Hellrider), ballads (Dreamer Deceiver, Beyond the Realms of Death), poppy songs (Breaking the Law, Metal Gods), bluesy songs (Victim of Changes, Crossfire), stadium anthems (United, Rock You All Around the World), nu metal songs (Bullet Train, Bloodsuckers), a couple of truly fascinating covers (Johnny B. Goode, Green Manalishi, Diamonds and Rust) and - most importantly - some of the best driving music ever devised by man (Heading out to the Highway, Desert Plains, Steeler, Invader, Starbreaker). And then there is Blood Red Skies…

If you were to ask me for the ultimate archetypal example of a Heavy Metal song, it's this song..... and that's from somebody who's not a huge JP fan (was more into Sabbath and Hawkwind back in my first discovering rock and metal years).
As others have mentioned, Judas Priest - Victim of Changes is probably where you need to be going next. It's a classic track dating back to their 2nd album released in '76 (I think) but has remained a staple of their live set ever since...... go with the live version mentioned in the other comments :)

Priest are just Metal Gods...cannot get enough. They seem to get heavier as they age...lol.

I think Tiptpn put every bit of rage & anger he had into the leads!

That's the great thing about Rob is his insane range. He can go from a low growl to a skull piercing scream . Few can pull it off as well. This song was a introduction for fans to the new drummer Scott Travis . It definitely said that there was a new sheriff behind the kit. It was also Priest trying to keep up with the Thrash bands that were dominating the metal scene.

Priest wasn't trying to keep up. They were setting a new standard that still is a high water mark for metal til this day.

Still one of my favourite albums in my collection today!

Great reaction. You need to do more reactions and divide Priest up into the different eras. Early 70’s, Late 70’s, Early 80’s, Late 80’s, 90’s, Ripper Owen’s years, Return of Halford and now today. Different sounds in all.

Very appropriate to do this reaction now ! Other than maybe a bit late in their career... ;-)
Definitely a good song choice, a very famous song.
It has been good to see Rob Halford/Judas Priest congratulate Babymetal with their 10th year anniversary and then a few weeks later see Babymetal congratulate Judas Priest with their 50th year anniversary. :-) The girls in Babymetal and Rob Halford both have high voices in their music. And they even performed together at the APMAs (maybe react to it ?) :-)

Great suggestion, we will definitely have to check that out! Both of them on stage together sounds epic.
