    Fun fact, the less perfect your terrain is the more realistic it is. Literally the only thing that are perfect in nature are entirely man-made, or it’s like a butterfly, which usually have matching wings. The more perfect it is, the less realistic it looks.

    Your roads layout is very american inspired. Mediäval cities grew naturally through out the terrain mostly. In Europe the straight roads and block districts are a modern evolution.

      Um wasn’t the square road district type of a city used in the past too by ancient Greeks? Like the city planning was invented there if I’m not wrong and one of the now destroyed cities that I know of was square in layout wasn’t it?

    • @georgiancountryball202
      @georgiancountryball202 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Found an article saying what I said
      Like a sizable majority of its philosophical belief systems and its educational principles, much of the urban planning in the United States is essentially rooted in the kind of design principles that were first developed by the Ancient Greeks between the years 500 and 300 BCE. Indeed, much of what we think of when it comes to “urban planning” as a field was actually first conceived of by a single Ancient Greek polymath called Hippodamus of Miletus.
      Living at the height of the classical Greek “Golden Age” during the fourth century BCE, Hippodamus was primarily concerned with the practicalities of daily life in relatively small city-states. These urban centers were essentially vulnerable to powerful enemies at all times. To most people living in Ancient Greece during the fourth century BCE, for example, warfare at home was something of a regular occurrence. (As a child, Hippodamus himself would have personally been aware of the invasion of Greece by the Persian Empire and likely would have seen many of his male relatives go off to fight in battle.)
      Indeed, the invention of the catapult during the lifetime of Hippodamus meant that invaders from rival civilizations like Persia could now decimate urban populations without sending their troops within a city’s borders. Ironically, Aristotle is said to have criticized Hippodamus’ championing of straight roads and orderly streets in his urban planning work due to Aristotle’s belief that the chaotic outlays of older cities would act as natural bulwarks against invaders.

      It really depends on the parts of Europe you look at. Some definitely did like London or Paris pre revamp however a lot of old roman cities followed some form of grid because they are one of the more efficient ways to build a city. I would say that it really depends on the kind of empire the city belongs to if you are building a city for a fantasy world.

    • @sturmkind
      @sturmkind ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the City core was planned most of the time. often with City walls and house blocks. but that was only the core district.
      for farms and so on there were small villages founded near by the city. To sell their goods on the local market they often had to pay fees. If the city and the nearby villages were prosper, they started to grow, allmost always along the already exsiting roads, because of the expencivness and time costs of roadbuilding. At some point the Core-Cities started to swallow the villages and towns nearby. So the 'district-layout' and city-planning was practically the city core only and here and there small blocks if wealthy investors planned and builded those blockdistricts at once.
      But most of the time 1 building was planned after another or a new street was planned at once by the local authorities.

    How did you create those objects you seem to have on your right side of the screen? Like the river, large cliffs, walls and stuff like that?
    Did you draw it somewhere?
    I am really looking for a way to create a "design" for my own maps before actually placing stuff in the world.
    Is there also a way to create easy walls?

    Step 2: if you're really that desperate, create maps for points of interest in the city then just frankenstein them together
