    This was a great beginner video. I would like to learn more about using Inkarnate to build a city. I played with it, but the result was, well, as awful as you can imagine. I am sure I am missing steps/tips along the way that would make my city map look more realistic.

    Thanks, dude! This is exactly all I needed to be able to explore on my own. Thank you for getting to the point, for your clarity and brevity, and for the section tags!

    If you don't already have a video on how to "trace" an existing map in Inkarnate, can you please do one on that? As an author, I want to use Inkarnate, but I already have some maps I want to recreate, but I'm finding it a real pain to make it work. I found some information that said you need to insert a map that's already created as a "stamp" and then set it to the background, but when I try to do this I can't seem to get it to fit, I can't seem to draw on it, and of course with it being a stamp, I can't separate the terrain from the background so end up covering the template with ocean and then can't trace it. I wish the layers worked as they do in Photoshop, because it seems so much simpler that way. For the record, I have both autism and ADHD, and unless something is intuitive or has an actual user guide, then I often struggle with making sense of it.

    Super helpful, thank you! While I've been DM-ing for a while, I've never really done more than just sketch out rough versions of maps, so this is super awesome and will absolutely come in handy for me now that I've picked up Inkarnate!

    Thanks for making such a useful tutorial, it has been of great assistance. It might be useful to note that the area/radius/density functions apparently (at least according to inkarnate) are only available when one is using stamp sets, I spun my wheels for a long time trying to make this function work for an individual stamp.

    Thanks for this video. It's helpful in knowing what to think about as I plan my next step. I'm building a map to airbrush to the underside of our Jeep hood so when we go to car shows there will be another dimension to our one of a kind vehicle! Can't wait to complete the project.

    Good stuff! Using this to map our farm. 😃
    Worth mentioning that the resolution on the map creation wizard refers to the editing resolution, not the final "Exported" res. It would be useful to have more info about res and aspect, as many people query this.

    Great video. 2 questions: I see one of them asked below on how you can make a map of one that you already had hand drawn if that is possible. The other is after you create your map and your game campaign grows, can you make maps that attach to the one you already created to expand your world?

    Awesome starting guide! Question; at 14:30 in the lower right it says "resize map/New map from region". Is this a tool where I can take say a continent out of my world map and make a more defined regional map out of it? It's something I'd like to do but thought maybe photoshop or something would be needed.

    • @nralbers
      @nralbers 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's exactly what it does, and it's awesome, because it will also resize the assets in the region to scale.

    Inkarnate is cool, that is what attracted me to it.
    I really wanted to use Inkarnate, but...
    Inkarnate has made it very clear to me, with confirmation, that they own anything you make with Inkarnate. That means if you every hope to use anything you make with Inkarnate in some future time, Inkarnate > whatever you made using Inkarnate.
    If you never, ever, hope to sell what you make, that is fine.
    But, if you have any future hope of selling for a profit what you make with Inkarnate, they have repeatedly confirmed that > whatever you make using Inkarnate. They do not own what you do not make using Inkarnate, but any thing you make using Inkarante they own and thus they get to define the financial agreement over which you can sell anything YOU MAKE using their Inkarnate software.
    For anyone who never thinks about the future hopes, this means nothing.
    But, for anyone hoping for future success, this means any part of whatever you create using Inkarnate is OWNED BY INKARNATE.
    I've tried to discuss this with them over a dozen different times over several months and the results are the same. I've had 8 different discussions now with someone related to Inkarnate with the same answer.
    UNLIKE any other similar program I use, Inkarnate holds ownership over what is made using Inkarnate.
    So... keep that in mind when using Inkarate.
    So, if you want to own what you make using a mapping software, do NOT use Inkarnate... however attractive it might seem..., because what you make, you will not own, Inkarnate will own it.

    • @30sumfin
      @30sumfin ปีที่แล้ว

      You can include your maps, for example, in a book you want to sell for profit. You just have to make sure you create it using the pro edition, as the fee includes commercial use.

    • @MusingsFromTheJohn00
      @MusingsFromTheJohn00 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@30sumfin I finally figured this out from directly talking to someone from Inkarnate. Despite the poor wording, Inkarnate is actually being reasonable. They just need to improve their wording.

    Looks like a good program, but you talk too fast, you skip around, and you discuss too much information that doesn't pertain to this program. This is not a good tutorial. It's not even a mediocre tutorial.
