I pray Easton makes a full recovery. My son was hit by a car at age 12 and died during surgery. I can never talk to him or hold him again. No child or parent should have to go through this. Hopefully he will be playing baseball again soon.

I grew up on a bunk bed sharing a room with my sibling, the summer camps I went to had bunk beds. But guess what.? ALL of them had a ladder and non detachable safety rails. There is no excuse why the league could not install them. Don't they know kids roll around in their sleep?

My bunk bed when I was a kid didn't have a railing. It had a ladder, but it was pushed to the foot of the bed. I fell out when I was 10 or 11, came to standing next to the bed. I think I was in shock or maybe had a head injury, but soon realized I had excruciating shoulder pain. Talked my mom into taking me to the ER after she told me to go back to bed, and turned out my collar bone was shattered.

The one thing that strikes me is that it was once the father moved the boy and sat him up that he lost ability to essentially control himself, which to me sounds like a spinal injury.
A Reminder: Don't move anybody who may have injured their head or neck, you sitting them up and moving them could cause further irreversible damage, or prolong their road to recovery. Allow a medical professional to assess the person before moving them, and just STABILIZE, do not move.

I think what he meant is that he was unable to follow commands, which is a sign of a brain injury- which is what he ultimately had. I 100% agree with you should never move anybody with a suspected SCI, but in this case the father was referring to his son’s cognitive faculties, which were significantly impaired because of his epidural hematoma.

They just stated that if they arrived 15 minutes later than they did the surgery would not be useful at all because he would probably be brain dead from all the compression with the bleed and the amount of blood he was losing. You can't lie to patients you have to keep it honest but you still do your best to save the patients life. Prayer helps those praying to be comfortable and be hopeful, I see nothing wrong with that. My daughter was asleep on the top bunk WITH A BEDRAIL. She was 8. Apparently, she rolled over in the night, her foot caught the rail, and down she went, rail and all-hitting her back and head on the dresser on the way down to the floor. I heard it as it was happening because I had fallen asleep on the couch. I immediately called 911. I knew to not try to move her, and the hospital was 2 blocks away. Thankfully, she is alive, and didn’t have any serious injuries. But she is nearly 40 now, and has had daily headaches and back pain ever since that fall.

I was in in cadets for 8 years. We had 3 layer bunk beds . So base, second and triple top. Since I was small I always got out in triple top… it took me 30-45 seconds just to climb the ladder all the way up… even cadets had a small bar that kept us from falling… but never enough to feel secure so we were taught how to wedge our sleeping bags to ensure this didn’t happen …
What happened here was gross negligence…
Praying he makes a full recovery. How tragic. Those beds look horribly unsafe..

I’m 60 and bunk beds never had rails when I was young. I’m sure kids fell out but I don’t remember any stories from camp or whatever. But those beds don’t look right to me. The top is much higher than I remember them being. I think that in order to make them more roomy underneath they have raised the top to unsafe levels. Rail them in already. We have to stop waiting for tragedies to happen before we fix things.

So, his parents were there at the dorm sleeping as well? One would understandably assume that they were aware that the beds had no rails then? And they still let their kid sleep up there? Um, doesn’t that act of negligence make them at least partially at fault in this incident as well? It’s a horrible tragedy that this happened to Easton at all, but to put the blame squarely on the shoulders of LL is a little ridiculous. You have an obligation as a parent to ensure that your children are in a safe situation and not rely on others to do that for you.

Little League's response in this video was just a platinum version of the answer they always give when asked about something that needs changing, "We'll take a look at that for next year.".
I just did a Google search of "bunkbeds for kids" and every one of the beds that popped up in the search had a guard rail of some sort. Every damned one of them. It would not surprise me if LL was more concerned with saving the cost of a safety rail than preventing injuries from falls that they KNEW had happened and would happen again. LL has no excuse, but they will spend millions of dollars to defend the lawsuit when they should be spending millions of dollars for this boys hospital bills and long term care.

As a mum, my heart broke listening to them tell their story and I cried for that little boy. I really hope the best for the family and I hope they get the rightful justice they deserve. It takes guts for a parent to trust anyone with our kids when they have to be with them and we cant, this is a parents worst nightmare and if it'd happened at home.... Well it would be a different story. The parents would be investigated and charged by the state, theyd lose custody also. I've had both my soms hospitalised while in the care of school, even with their teaching assistants right with them here in the uk.... My sons have special needs but It also angers me to think these systems that claim to protect our kids, even from us, their own parents, puts them in more danger than we do. I'm not religeous, I don't go to church but I will pray for his recovery and future, one day at a time. Bless them all. Get well soon Easton.

The housing for the young players at the Little League World Series is extremely tight. It would be far too expensive to have the kids plus the adults in local hotels. Anybody out of state who wants to attend the series might have to drive miles away to get accommodations. There are just not that many hotels. Or motels in the Williamsport area.
