- This is the end cutscene of Halo 4 , where John leaves again without Cortana (like in Halo 2) , but this time , I'm not sure if she survived or died that explosion or John will come back for her ... Hope that she will appear again in Halo 5 , then in 6.
This cutscene was really touching , heavy and very sad , where Cortana , in my opinion , I'm not sure if she passed to the fourth stage of rampancy , wich is " metastability " , where she " becomes " like a real person , showing how much she cares about John.

And this is why I am very bitter about the Halo TV show.
Chief didn’t need his helmet taken off, to “humanize” him. This beautiful scene is a perfect example of that. The voice, the head movements, all of it symbolizes well enough how Chief feels inside.
You don’t need a face reveal to make those points.
Hell, his subtle movements alone shows his emotions.
I don't care about the face. The face could work. It's not a game.
But the John of the TV series never ACTS like John 117.
I don't HATE the show. But it is simply never MC. The writing feels like they took and entirely different script and painted it in Halo green without understanding who these characters were.
Nyland should have been brought on board to write for the show. Possibly Schlerf as well. Their voices would have gone a long way in the writers room .

They should’ve never used John as the main character in the first place, could’ve just made up a spartan and a story and used the foundation of halos lore to write the show

John was only experiencing emotion for the first time in a very long time
As a child soldier, he experienced emotion a lot but didn't show it. It slipped out sometimes of course. Responding to DAISY-023 was another time in the lore we witnessed some of his humanity. All of his interactions with Cortana are others. Try to understand.

From “Wake up, Chief” to “Welcome home, John”. The humanization of the Chief, albeit subtle, was the brilliance of Halo 4.
This comment is heavy underrated. Nobody noticed this. It further points out to their journey together. Like going on a long drive, taking a nap and being woken up with those words “welcome home”
Oh dear. Never have I shipped a freaking computer AI with a faceless man. And her "I've waited so long to do that (physically touch M.Chief)." That's when men all over the world cried.
If she were only a little bit taller, just enough to look John-117 in the eye...but she looks great. I mean, she's essentially naked.

The way Master Chief is stuttering shows how's he's trying to keep his composure.
I like how the debris in the background falls as Cortana disappears. As if Master Chief's life is falling to pieces.
A tragic love story told very well. The hero does not always get the girl in the end and the Master Chief showed how much he loved Cortana.

They became more than partners, THAT’S what made this scene so painful to watch, knowing that this was their last mission together, how Cortana treated Chief as more than a soldier, and Chief treated Cortana as more than an AI

He sounded so ready to cry, I guess the reason we never see him without his helmet is because we’re still supposed to see him as this invincible warrior, but still sense that he feels emotions, and nothing fits that better than this scene, he looks like an emotionless soldier, but we all know better

This is why halo is a great franchise. Despite being a badass futuristic FPS, it is still capable of gravity-hammering your feels. After playing through Halo 4 for the first time in one sitting, I turned off my console, sat on my bed and cried: tears of sadness, joy, and admiration. Admiration at what an epic game this truly is. 343, you've done well.

Daniel Booth I thought5 was great. ppl were mad cuz you weren't specifically chief the entire game, but it couldn't have been executed that way, and most ppl that do FPS can barely handle COD story lines, halo is too deeply immersed in story

Some fans hate this because they think it turns Chief into a manbaby with feelings when he’s supposed to be a soldier.
Soldiers have feelings, everyone does. And losing someone this important to you is gonna cause emotion, man or not.
You can tell Chiefs emotions by his tone and the way he moves his head

Cortana was an AI trying to be more human and Chief was a super soldier who's humanity was stripped from him.... And both Chief and Cortana make each other feel more human.... And ofcourse love is a part of being human.... Their love is more than just physical attraction.... Its very pure and beautiful tbh

A tragic love story between an experimental AI and an experimental soldier. Now that’s unique
Powered my way through a decades worth of Halo gameplay in about 3 months. This scene absolutely killed me. I may not have been playing since the beginning like everyone else, but that doesnt mean i didnt appreciate the beautiful bond that Cortana and Chief shared.

The idea of putting two creations falling in love with each other is what made this so beautiful and so heart warming
We’ve been with the Chief for years , but this was the first time we’ve ever really seen John . The way he couldn’t look at her , they way his voice changed and gradually got higher , the stumbling of his words . Have we ever seen Chief show this level of emotion .
Never, I think this is the first time Chief ever really felt something that wasn't for the greater good of humanity. This is the first time I think he actually cared about something that wasn't for the sake of everyone else. He cared for the love that he shared with Cortana. She was more than just an AI, she was his partner, his other half.

I have always thinked that Chief was crying at this scene. It's the only time on the saga where he is really broken, and really sad, he stays there.... Thinking....

You can say whatever you want about 343's games and how they've handled the franchise, I don't even disagree in most regards.
But this entire scene right here was, and still is, beautifully done. And the voice acting really sells it.

This part is the strongest point of the storyline in the entire halo series..... so emotional and quite sad...... I never expected halo 4 to have such an emotional story when I first played and beat this game..... the rest of the halo games was just exciting, fun, and mind blowing. While halo 4 was just so passionate and of course like the rest of the halo games it was exciting, mind blowing etc.

+Zach Ramon 343 did such a good job with this scene in Halo 4. Honestly, if Cortana would not have returned I would think most fans would be satisfied with how she died and her relationship with Chief. Now, in Halo 5, putting her against Chief is just not right and how she found the Domain to escape rampancy is plain weird. Halo 6 is going to need something incredible to happen for me to jump on-board with "evil" Cortana.

Halo 5 did a masterful job of:
1) Incorporating the comics to explain how Cortana survived
2) Proving that bringing anything back from the dead, even a sophisticated 3rd Gen AI, would corrupt them beyond recognition
Now that makes the possibilities for Halo 6 even better. Think about the possibilities, man!

They could have done the oni vs chief line, they could have done it right like the comics yet they didnt. Halo 5 story was lazy. They kept recyclinf the warden and never upgrading him, they sideline chief because why even care about osiris team? They are basically there for plot sake since they were not introduce in the way the arbiter was in halo 2. You never get to feel anything with those characters because all they do is just fight. With chief it was built upon. We know he is a super soldier yet even in halo 1 we know chief has emotions just foesn't lose his cool.
If anything they should have just improved the graphics yet not over do the graphics why getting rid of splitscreen to also focus on MP and just the beauty of how it looks.
Dragon age origins is a perfect example upon how a game with out of date graphics yet with a kick a** story and an okay vombat system

No it doesn't and halo has always been cliche. Spartan 117 is the perfect soldier yet over time developes his humanity back thanks to cortana. Once he loses her he feels out of place.
A single soldier stops an alien threat with a rag tag team of allies stops a weapon that could doom the galaxy? That isn't cliche?

Trust us, if you played from the beginning to the end of 4, it'll hit you like a ton of bricks.
You do know that Master Chief was trained since the age of six to be an emotionless killing machine right? This scene alone shows more emotion from him than the previous three combined, and even that is not a lot. The way you hear it is the way the game developers meant for you to hear it.

Wow @ 2:03 is where I can see the emotion emulating from John, that little head turn is so powerful it's amazing, that tells me everything, then the preceding "wait" you can hear the struggle between ruthless killing machine, and a man about to lose the only thing that has kept him alive through certain death and suicide missions.
