One simply cannot simplify how much this title meant when Halo 2 first came out. This was the title was essentially the “Toy Story 2” of the entire gaming industry that cemented that Halo was to stay and become the next big icon in all of video gaming. I still remember when even the news would regularly cover the build up and the hype for the release back in 2004. Essentially when video games were like Blockbusters and man did the complete hype pay off.
I was 4 then and I still, somewhat, remember that. I wouldn’t understand the hype until 2009ish when I got to play my first halo game (ODST) and I loved it. I remember my 10th like it was yesterday, my step-brother came to my dads house in the middle of the night that weekend when it came out. My brother and I were still awake, my step-brother went to the entertainment center and started plugging in his Xbox and he tossed me reach saying “happy birthday, have fun.” I still have my copy of reach
"What if you miss?" "I *wont* " Yeah chiefs track record of unnecessarily jumping out of ships and blowing things up is remarkable. Hes made for this. Confidence level 100
This is the exact scene that made me declare Master Chief the greatest video game character of all time period and Cortana as the greatest secondary protagonist of all time. Sgt Johnson from this series and Dom from gears of war and funny enough... The titan AI from titan fall 2 are up there as secondary protagonists as well. With dialogue like "I woulda been your daddy but the dog beat me over the fence"... He almost beats cortana. But his best line is set up by her. Scorpion drops, cortana: "he never gets me anything" Johnson "oooh I know what the ladies like" This cutscene, the Halo remember reach trailer, the Halo believe trailer and the Gears of War 2 we all know how this will End trailer are probably the 4 most viewed video game videos I've ever watched... And though I dont watch or follow any streamers... Gotta give the honorable mention to DR disrespect for the "spectates a hacker" vid.
“Sir, permission to leave the station?” “For what purpose master chief?” “To give the covenant back their bomb...” Hood thinks: “you know, he’s pretty good, but even this is pretty risky for him. But holy shit would it look cool if he pulled it off”
Lord Hood is secretly Chief’s biggest fan. He has a foam finger and everything that he pulls out whenever he hears Chief is doing something badass off screen.
I mean this is humanity's final stand. This is Earth. I think they have other settlements outside of Earth that haven't been caught by the Covenant, but this is the last military station. If the Master Chief was going to die, this was where he was going to do it.
I remember the line "to give the covenant back their bomb" when I was little and it gave me chills and I recently bought the master chief collection and it still gives me that feeling
Masterchief is THAT badass. That even an AI questions his plan as “crazy”. Keep in mind. Chief IS still technically human. Genetically superhuman. But still. Can calculate better than a computer AI. Shows how badass the chief really is.

"Sir, permission to leave the station." "For what purpose, Master Chief?" "To give the Covenant back their bomb." "Permission granted." Thats some epic dialogue
It was Loki who said, “I have an army.” not Thanos. I don’t even know why you thought Thanos said that line since you’ve obviously seen several “I have an army” memes that imply that Loki says the line. And if you’re gonna make this meme-comment good, then make it accurate. Don’t type Tony saying “We have a Spartan” type Dr. Halsey saying that. And type the Covenant saying “I have an army” My point is, this is a stupid comment. How it got a heart is beyond me.
What's funny is that this bomb was JUST ENOUGH to blow up the MAC stations but probably would have required a higher yield blast to take out that CAS Assault Carrier. However, seeing as we're shown how the Chief and the bomb end up floating in the carrier's (what I presume is most likely the reactor room) reactor core, the explosion overloads the core and takes out the entire carrier. This is only 2nd in awesomeness to Chief going on a one-man army into High Charity and saving Cortona in Halo 3 on the flood-invested holy city, and in the process, overloading the reactor and blowing up HIGH CHARITY! Man, that's a one-two punch and the biggest "FUCK YOU!" to the Covenant if there ever was one. "Master Chief 117, blowing up your shit since 2001!"
Even if the blast hadn't been next to the main reactor, ODPs aren't small things. It still likely would've outright mission-killed the thing by virtue of blasting a big ass hole into the ship.
There was a skirmish when the Spartans II's first fought the covenant ever, Sam-34 detonated a nuke inside a covenant ship, the explosion was contained by the shields like detonating a handgrenade in a safe, it absolutely wrecked the ship ,due to the fact the blast was contained further amplifying its destructive force
And this is why there will never be a Halo movie: There is no human alive that could reasonably pull off that much concentrated badass unless they got Steve Downes to voice over someone else acting as the Chief. And even then it would be a diluted product
With all my heart I want it to be amazing, but these kinds of projects have a history of not working out as planned. I’m crossing my everything for it to be glorious though

+xMofoKilla29x I thought so too.
My brother and I were still awake, my step-brother went to the entertainment center and started plugging in his Xbox and he tossed me reach saying “happy birthday, have fun.”
I still have my copy of reach
Then the later companies ruined it

1:45 UNSC Feeling Lucky was definitely not lucky that day.
Pretty sure the entire crew of that ship died judging by how it just detonated from the inside
UNSC Feeling Lucky just saved the ODP Chief came from by taking that shot for it.
@@jovalin5939 Not really, the beam wouldn't have hit Chief regardless. The ship helped by distracting the ship, though.
Oseres 18 he meant the ODP (Orbital Defense Platform) that the chief jumped from not the Chief himself
Clearly not lucky given the fact if they had about 30 more seconds they all would still be alive.
This is quite possibly the greatest cutscene of all time...
Scorpion drops, cortana: "he never gets me anything" Johnson "oooh I know what the ladies like"
This cutscene, the Halo remember reach trailer, the Halo believe trailer and the Gears of War 2 we all know how this will End trailer are probably the 4 most viewed video game videos I've ever watched... And though I dont watch or follow any streamers... Gotta give the honorable mention to DR disrespect for the "spectates a hacker" vid.

Cortana: I know what you’re thinking, and it’s crazy
Master Chief: So stay here?
Cortana: Unfortunately for us both.......I like crazy.
Cortana: Just one question; what if you miss?
Can survive that but can't survive more than a second of being shot with a plasma rifle
Plasma make him stummy hurt :(
Che, gameplay limits. If you could play a Spartan 2 the way they are actually potrayed, you'd be next to impossible to kill.
Maybe chiefs armor lock could explain the landing and isn’t as useful in combat for obvious reasons.
@@DarthDragon007 actually in lore just a couple shots from a plasma pistol would melt right through mjolnir armor, getting hit with an overcharged one unshielded is pretty much a death sentence
BowlingGlaceon yeah the mjolnir armour before the shielding technology was pretty limited to what they are capable of right now. The fact that Master Chief was capable of doing such feats as a Spartan 2 before the mark 5 armour goes to show how much of a badass he is.
this is what Spartans were made for. Turning the tide of an entire battle with a plan no one else would even consider

This is, without question, the coolest cutscene in any game period
Considering it uses antimatter yes it would be enough, the reactor core thing was probably for good measure.
Even if the blast hadn't been next to the main reactor, ODPs aren't small things. It still likely would've outright mission-killed the thing by virtue of blasting a big ass hole into the ship.
@@seawolf4846 If it didn't tear it completely in half.
And this is why there will never be a Halo movie:
There is no human alive that could reasonably pull off that much concentrated badass unless they got Steve Downes to voice over someone else acting as the Chief.
And even then it would be a diluted product
With all my heart I want it to be amazing, but these kinds of projects have a history of not working out as planned. I’m crossing my everything for it to be glorious though

imo what makes this cutscene better for me is the casual attitude that occurs afterwards as if chief does this every tuesday, total badass

He is the "master chief" because John-117 holds the rank of master chief petty officer. Which is also why the basic UNSC marines Call him sir but he still takes orders from johnson
