      The sizing is a BIG DEAL. a BIG deal. I'm stumped why everyone is buying bikes that are too large for them. At 6ft I buy med frame size. They want me to buy large, but they simply are NOT playful enough. But now, under Specialized, I can buy a mid-med frame size. three HUGE thumbs up!!

    I've recently bought a comp. It's my first 29er and I must say it's a great bike. I came from a Cannondale Prophet which is also a great piece of kit. The one negative of the Specialized compared to the Cannondale is the weight climbing, it's slow and that's with lighter wheels. I've also extended the fork travel and put the largest volume reducer into the shock for more support which is brilliant, feel like I'm getting more travel. Overall a decent bike.

      I have the carbon comp with a set of Elitewheels pro 36 wheels. Ground control and Fast trak tyres and it comes to 13.1 Kg including pedals. The heaviest part is definitly the Rhythm 34 grip fork.

      Can I ask what you weigh and if you added any volume spacers? I'm 210 and the fact this little guy is 150lbs (which seems to be who these bikes are typically built for) I'm a little concerned about how the bike will perform for folks in the taller/heavier weight categories.

    • @Pipite67
      @Pipite67 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@konos3951 I am 75kg (whatever that is in pounds) I added 2 tokens in the fork and changed the yellow for a orange in the rear shock. Loved it! I reckon if you'd go for the carbon expert with the new fox 34 performance elite (with grip 2 damper) you would be disappointed, it's an awesome fork. I have the same in 36 on another bike and it's the best fork I ever owned!

  • @vomErsten

    Has Speshy's game ever been so universally on-point? Every MTB they've released recently has been a complete slam-dunk not only on looks and performance but also on value relative to the competition. And it's not even just the MTBs, they are also killing it in the roadie world right now, too.
    I'd be really curious to hear how the alloy versions of the new Stumpy compare to the carbon ones. Does the retention of the Horst link change the narrative on how this bike rides?

      ... Is invisible.
      It had a big curve in it before the bike lands, that’s just the shape it is. I don’t know why it’s not the same shape as the drive side, but it’s not. You can see the curve in the shots when it’s just being ridden normally too.

    • @carlosolivas7280
      @carlosolivas7280 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I’d say the ripmo v2 is a bit more of a goat with climbing. This is coming from someone who just ordered the 2021 sj evo. So they are pretty comparable with slight edge to the ibis on climbs.

    Is an s-works build really relevant? I'd like to see a more representative build that reflects consumer interest. Reviewing the top spec model feels like it's more about promoting the brand than looking at what most customers will buy. I like PB because I've always felt that PB is more about riders than manufacturers. Testing top spec bikes feels like an affront to that.

    • @damo010
      @damo010 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      totally agree, wish they would review the comp models for a more real world example, that said the reviewer is very good.

      it's the same bike just better parts/lighter. it shows what the bike can do at its best.

    • @howarddavies136
      @howarddavies136 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@dundundata7603 I get what your saying, but let me put it to you this way, to what extent would a BMW M3 review be relevant to a 320d? Sure, the touch points, HVAC, boot space etc will be the same, but how comparable is the driving experience?
      If you have ever changed your bike's wheels, or even just the tyres, or gone from tubed to tubeless, you'll know how big a difference there is in the riding experience. So, comparing two bikes with the same architecture, but different suspension, cockpit, grips, saddle, tyres, wheels; it then becomes extremely difficult to see what is actually relevant.
      But then again, that is why manufacturers want magazines to test the top of the range, because we as consumers will erroneously assume that what makes the top of the range great will also be applicable to lower models in the range.
      My original comment about the s-works and its relevance are as simple as me thinking; that's outside my budget, I don't know to what extent this review represents the model that is within my budget, therefore I can't use this review to compare a lower tier model with a competitor.

    What we really need to see is the Stumpy vs Optic test. 2020 mtb of the year vs 2021 mtb of the year. Would be really interesting to see, because Specialized basically copied Norco's geometry

    • @captnhuffy
      @captnhuffy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      everyone is copying everyone else's designs. How do you think Norco got off the ground? Real innovation is difficult, expensive, and often gets it's butt kicked. Norco is an innovator though. Apple products are better for having to compete against manuf who make Smartphones for smart people... and their competitors offer better products for having to compete against Apple: who offers smartphones for dumb people.

      @@peterk7662 Hey Peter, It was a really good bike. Before I was riding a Enduro Evo Expert from Specialized and a S-Works Camper from 2021 (if I remember correctly). The S-Works stumpjumper is beyond any of that. It's stiff but very menouvable and easy to ride.
      It's difficult to put into words but I'll say, it's not "worth the money". I paid 115.000 Danish kroner which is around $17,000. It's a lot of money for a piece of carbon frame with some wheels and I would never argue that it's worth the money because it's not. If I had to recommend something high-end I'd say, go for the Pro version or perhaps the Experts version. Getting the S-Works is just not worth the extra cash unless you ride hard, you ride to win and every second counts.
      If I had to choose today (and I have ridden s-works for maany years). I would buy a cheaper version like a Canyon.
      I did however sell my bike and got a Pinarello Dogma F which I love to this date :)

    Did the stumpy feel under forked? Would it have been better with a 140mm 36?

    Glad the swat hole is lighter than previously. My 2016 version is sooo heavy by comparison. 😐?

    I live in Kelowna and I’m thinking about entering in the BC Bike race this year. Need some advice on the bike to use for the event. Would a light setup. From light XC bikes to trail bikes, what’s the sweet spot for travel and bike weight? Would the stumpy 130mm back and front be to much bike? Would an Epic Evo with a 130mm for be better? Can you give me a couple of examples of rider setups. Cheers

    Isn't the flex stay already bowing in the opposite direction when the bike is static? Isn't that kinda like a negative airspring?

    How do you guys feel about the $2200 alloy version? Im interested in picking one up but cant afford the higher end models. Would be cool if you did a review on one

      I have it! This base model gets you going! I have ridden all over the bay area and in santa cruz! It does not get scared to get rowdy next to the big dogs. Only downside are the brakes. Will be upgrading them.
