    Thank you for reviewing the Comp! Most outlets only test the S-Works. It's nice to see reviews and weights for more common models. I am actually looking at that exact model but have been hesitant because of that fork.

    I am trying to learn the essential details about how to compare & contrast different "Stumpjumper' bikes, so that I have more tools to understand, and to make a more analytical buying decision. 90 seconds into this person's video review, and I had already learned more about what I NEED to know than I had learned from watching many other video reviewers of 2022-23 Stumpjumpers. Well done! And thank you - finally, a review that doesn't offend my teacher's-instincts for demonstration and basic instruction. This is by far the most useful teaching/review video of Stumpjumper bikes that I have found thus far. Bravo!

    FYI, I ride a stumpjumper with the newer flex-stay treatment. After only one month of riding, the torsional flex in the rear triangle caused the tires to rub down to bare carbon on the rear triangle. At 6'6" and 220 pounds (S6 frame), I'm sure not many will have a similar issue, but larger riders might want to keep that in mind. I had an evo before this, and did not have a similar issue. That rear triangle has just a little too much flex outside of the vertical flex that is to be expected from the suspension.

      6'6" and 220lbs? You should be on a titanium hardtail goofball. Never understood why these giant dudes want to ride bikes built for people around 5'10" on average

    I purchased that exact bike in February to upgrade from my 2018 short travel alloy Stumpy. I'm completely happy with it, although I do agree it's a bit twitchy on steep rutted climbs. Will, I don't have the knock in the fork that you complain about. I also run 180 (I'm 69kg) in the shock to get the correct sag. It would have been nice to have XT components but the SLX works extremely well and I don't like SRAM because I push pull to shift. I still have my old stumpy and think it is a great bike to ride. Is carbon worth the extra money ? I'm sure you Won't be disappointed with which ever you buy, Carbon or Alloy.

  • @Max-dj5qj
    @Max-dj5qj 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Comp or Expert Models are always the best Start Base with Specialized, besides that massive price increase since the 22 models... Nearly All bikes are way to expensive for what they are today. I always searched for this Carbon comp Model, but after two other Carbon Bikes I'm glad I went for the Stumpjumper Comp Alloy. It feels so much more robust and for my purpose of an aggressive trial bike. Aluminum isn't as stiff and direct in the feel as carbon, but rides a bit more damped and comfortable. Both has it has advantages for sure. I had the Transition Spur with the same flex stays Design, and it was on one side pretty nice sensitive and good awesome brake traction, but one the other hand when you braap corners harder, the tire touches the inside of the chain and seat stays every time, absolute no go for me. My Comp Alloy in S4 weights 14,9kg without pedals out of the box. You can easily chop a good amount of rolling weight with good aluminum wheels and the nx shifter and deraileur is an absolute no go on an comp model! With the rest you can ride pretty hard and nice. It pedals pretty well uphill too. A rhythm fork isn't as bad as all the slow grip 2 factory people say ;). I was also a bid worried about that, I come from the RS side always. But the rhythm fork and dps damper looks quite nice and quality. You can easy add some volume spacers and flip both lockouts pretty easy on uphill. And you can tune it with a superb cartridge redesign for small money if you want. 90% of the mtb I see, ride bikes with 6000€+ but have skills for a standard aluminum hardtail. Hope you doing more tests of the smaller budget level spec bikes in the future 👍👍👍. Where is your Mullet info coming from? I only know that for the evo Model so far. That would be great if I can build my alloy comp as a mullet version.

    Another great one Will 👍 Your review of the SJ pro was the last push that I needed last year, to upgrade my 2019 SJ ST comp for a 2021 SJ Expert. After a year of riding I can now state that your reviews of the SJ’s are spot on. The biggest difference between ‘comp’ and ‘expert’-models are the better suspension and all I can say is that it is really worth the extra investment. The Performance GRIP2 fork is wat makes this bike so capable and smooth for what is essentially a light and snappy trail bike. Just make sure to swap the flexy Roval aluminium wheels, on both the comp or expert, for a set of carbon Roval Controls. Those wheels are truly fantastic and probably the cheapest on te market for the quality and weight provided. There you have it, Specialized and ‘cheap’ mentioned in one sentence.. 😄

      @FlowMountainBikeYouTube  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks very much Bas, and glad to hear you're digging the new bike! That 34 GRIP2 fork is unreal hey? Brings a tonne of control, and it's such a good match for the Stumpjumper. We'll be making some suspension upgrades to our test bike over the coming weeks, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it evolves with a few changes, including the mullet setup. [Wil]

    This is such a well balanced review going way beyond all those others...
    I find my Comp to be really capable in the Alps, even the 34 Rhythm performs great.
    Of you were to upgrade- would you pick a 34 or 36 factory Grip 2? Thx so much! Best from Nauders, Tyrol!

    • @FlowMountainBikeYouTube
      @FlowMountainBikeYouTube  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks mate, appreciate the feedback!
      Regarding a fork upgrade; if you're a heavier rider and you want the option to run the fork at 150mm, the obvious option would be the 36. Personally I've loved having the 34 GRIP2 fork on there.
      Not sure if you've seen this already, but I did a separate review on the Stumpjumper set up as a mullet and with a piggyback shock and a 36/Lyrik: flowmountainbike.com/tests/specialized-stumpjumper-mullet-review/
      I also recently did a back-to-back test between the Pike and 34, using the Stumpjumper as the main test bike: flowmountainbike.com/tests/2023-rockshox-pike-vs-fox-34-grip2-review/
      On a different note, a few years ago my wife and I passed through Nauders on a road trip - we spent a couple of days riding in Biberwier, and then a couple of days in Latsch. What an amazing part of the world you live in!

    • @FlowMountainBikeYouTube
      @FlowMountainBikeYouTube  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers mate, and thanks for the question!
      I think there's a chance you might find the Stumpjumper a little too light and flexy at your weight, particularly if you're going to be riding it hard. It could be worth considering the Stumpjumper EVO if you didn't mind having a bit of extra travel, though if you wanted to stick to the 130-140mm zone, I would definitely recommend the new Trek Fuel EX, which is considerably stiffer and burlier than the Stumpjumper.
      Here's our video on the Fuel EX if you fancy checking it out; th-cam.com/video/qWw8bnIORb4/w-d-xo.html
      Hope that helps!

    I completely agree about your comments RE the fork spec. Specialized are doing their fans a disservice by selling the bike with e Rhythm fork. If it was a Performance then at least it has the stronger chassis and you can upgrade the damper later on but with a Rhythm you pretty much have to replace the whole thing. Maybe not lighter riders but I am 105kg and in my experience, the Rhythm fork is too flexible for my weight and is an absolute no from me.

    I’m enjoying the bike so far th-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.
