You know, a lot of artists would kick out the drummer so they could look good. I'm impressed Stevie plays alongside him, giving them both a chance to show off and groove. It's not just a solo-it's a live jam session!
I have always loved Stevie Wonder and his fabulous timeless music! What a pure and sweet and passionate voice him and playing keyboards are so excellent. First time seeing and hearing him playing drums here on TH-cam. Such a natural gift!! Awesome! Long live Stevie and his long legacy of fantastic and enjoyable music!
This I didn't know. I thought he was a natural talent or self taught. But he rocks and is jamming, feeling the groove of those drums. First time ever hearing this.
wow, thanks for posting. i'd seen / heard the B&W one but this one is also amazing. I love Stevie Wonder! I got to see him this last year at Shoreline in Mtn View CA. Great show, so uplifting, such great tunes, band and I just had such a great time. The only other time i'd seen him was Dec 1980 Oakland Coliseum, touring on Hotter Than July ... the night Lennon was killed. Damn, Stevie! Thanks for all the music and thanks to whoever posted this one.
I can't believe some people are unimpressed. Not even a "He's an alright drummer, for a man who also plays bass, piano, guitar, harmonica, saxophone, and pretty much anything else he damn well pleases, given a few weeks." Well, did I mention he's blind?
.....Stevie's last name isn't wonder for no reason..... He's the Norris of instrumentality and is SOO musically inclined...what vocal abilities as well. Bless his musical soul.
Actually, a lot of drummers play that way. The heavy end of the stick allows you to play louder, gives it a different sound...and the stick isn't as likely to BREAK when you play that way (of course, that depends on the drummer).
He's actually right. It's all muscle memory. I noticed that when I had to take my drumset apart, I put it back together and whenever was playing and looked over at my music I would miss my toms because I would try to hit where the tom used to be. No doubt that Stevie is an AMAZING drummer, but don't bash on this guy because he is right.
When I first heard that Stevie could play drums, I was like "Hell no he can't!!!" Well, fuck the shit outta me!!! I shouldn't have been surprised though, huh??
I,m going to see him again in Manchester next week 9/09/08!!Last seen him 11yrs ago!!Watching him do the things he does makes me feel such an unaccomplished tw*t....He really is a phenomenon!!(Swallowed a dictionary)
It does not matter how you hold the sticks!! As long as it sounds good!!! Thats the bottom line I think!!alot of people that can see could not do what this talented man can do so if he's holding the sticks wrong so be it!!!! Play on stevie play on!!
@mgalore Stevie, has the setup of the drum kit, memorized, he does 90% of the drums in most of his albums too, just listen to "I Wish" thats him on the drums, also if you want a better look at his drumming, look for the documentary "Songs in the Key of Life" its here on TH-cam in 8 parts, also someone got the drum portion as a separate video as well. Stevie has pretty much stopped doing Drum Solo's in live shows, but his work on the Keytar is amazing & a treat in itself to see in person. PEACE.
Fuck me !!..Is there any instrument this genius can't play !?? I've been playing professionally for 27 years now, and watching this makes me wanna learn even more..
what a pioneer and legend and music. honestly, today's society needs more stevie's, especially with all the shitty music out there today. awesome solo, great musician.
i thought the black and white video of him playing was great, but watching this you probably wouldn't even be able to tell he was blind based on his drumming. i mean no offence to SW, but i would find it hard doing what he just did for almost 5 mins straight with my eyes closed LOL, and double pedal?? man hes insanely good, and i never liked playing double pedal, and ive been playing since i was a kid and he already kicks my ass at double pedal... A motherfucking genius...hands fucking down!
@queenmcsleaze Yeah, amy artists like Stevie on drums, he's not as known for it as he is the Clav & many other instruments he plays, but he is amazing on drums... I remember in grade school, my music teacher (also the band teacher) telling me I wouldn't be able to play drums because I'm legally blind ,I asked her if she ever listened to Stevie Wonder's music, she said 'of course' I then told her to listen carefully, for the Drums in most of his stuff & then realize HE was the one doing them.
Be FOREVER AMAZED at what STEVIE does WITHOUT his eyesight, and then tell me what you're accomplishing with your 100% eyesight! DEEP THOUGHTS THERE!
This proves that Stevie Wonder is still worth that nickname. He's a wonder and a phenomenoum beyond compare!
You know, a lot of artists would kick out the drummer so they could look good. I'm impressed Stevie plays alongside him, giving them both a chance to show off and groove.
It's not just a solo-it's a live jam session!
is there no end to this man's genius?! this is incredible!

Man, Stevie never ceases to amaze! As to his technique, he was taught by none other than Benny Benjamin of Motown's Funk Brothers.
This I didn't know. I thought he was a natural talent or self taught. But he rocks and is jamming, feeling the groove of those drums. First time ever hearing this.
Stevie was a genius before he ever set foot in Motown.
Some people just ooze talent, Stevie is one of them, plus he is a true legend in his lifetime. God Bless Stevie and thanks for your music.
that is the most amazing inspiring thing that i have ever seen in my life
I swear I wouldnt be suprised if I saw Stevie Wonder driving one day!
the amazing groovy soulful stevie wonder on the drums...wicked! thank for posting
the drummer behind Stevie is Gerry Brown! He played with Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke in the 70's..one of the BEST drummers in the WORLD!
no point comparing stevie to other musicians. he is music in human form.
Stevie Wonder doing a double bass pedal!!! Just crapped myself!! So Cool!!

The drummer in the band here is Gerry Brown. A great,under-rated drummer.

He plays drums better than most multi-instrumentalists that have another major instrument.
He actually can drive a car. Another Incredible Stevie Wonder fact is that he has flown a private jet before.
King of music!
He's not blind, he can see through music!!!
respect,
proves that nothing is impossible
When I first heard that Stevie could play drums, I was like "Hell no he can't!!!"
Well, fuck the shit outta me!!!
I shouldn't have been surprised though, huh??
He is playin drums on most of his albums, I know for sure on Songs in The Key of Life. And he is also playin on the early Spinners stuff too.
GENIUS!!!
I,m going to see him again in Manchester next week 9/09/08!!Last seen him 11yrs ago!!Watching him do the things he does makes me feel such an unaccomplished tw*t....He really is a phenomenon!!(Swallowed a dictionary)
holly damn cow... Steve is amazing!
@hotdrumchick Yeah, it's Stevie who wrote and played the drums on "Superstition". Guy can groove and solo. Hero!!
Pure Genius!
He's the god.
He's a genius. Proof beauty is made by man himself, and so is God.
It does not matter how you hold the sticks!! As long as it sounds good!!! Thats the bottom line I think!!alot of people that can see could not do what this talented man can do so if he's holding the sticks wrong so be it!!!! Play on stevie play on!!

honestly, today's society needs more stevie's, especially with all the shitty music out there today.
awesome solo, great musician.
man..that dude was going so fast i didn't even notice it!
how WONDERful.
Even if someone had showed Stevie which side of the stick to hit the drum with, I don't think he could be any better. The man fucking rules.
I think he wants to find the end of the stick so not to drop them -- he's always drummed that way. -- wow this is an old comment. Hope you see it.
Great solo.

@queenmcsleaze Yeah, amy artists like Stevie on drums, he's not as known for it as he is the Clav & many other instruments he plays, but he is amazing on drums...

As well as the piano, synthesizer, harmonica, congas, bongos, organ, melodica, and clavinet.
Impresionante !!!!
I don't know what to say.....oh good, i found my lip, it fell on the ground as I was watching this....BANANAS!!!!
I think him being blind is what makes him so good at music, like it MAKES him focus on the sound and everyhting
The real Dr Music
Is there any Instrument that Stevie can NOT play? (Except Noseflute, maybe..?)
Thank you for the Music, Stevie!
it's the metal way to hold the drum sticks like that - Dave grohl is one of those who does it
Stevie on KIT!!!
everyone says, "oh that's amazing for a blind person". He's probably amazing because he's blind. music/sound are his life.
Who's the other dude laying down the beat and working his ass off on the other kit? He's so good.
He's good...damnn
