This is a beautiful moment. Sheila E brought Prince the guitar and before she did I want to believe she told Stevie “I’m gonna give Prince the guitar and when he stops playing the piano you can go back to the piano” Stevie goes back to the Piano and immediately plays what Prince was playing. Great musicians/artists…that band…professionals/masters…geniuses on that stage man !
At first I was enjoying the whole aura of two greats on stage. But then I flashed back to Stevie playing "Purple Rain" as tribute to Prince and couldn't finish as he teared up. And well....It got to me.
Interestingly enough, Prince forbade anyone from playing Stevie Wonder records around him while he was recording he debut album. He didn't want to be influenced by the magnitude and sheer force of his music. Which is understandable when you are trying to find your own voice.
Possibly the most innovative genius in soul and pop music at the time… I don’t blame him at all for avoiding Stevie, as difficult as that sounds. I hardly listen to new music anymore. I always get too compulsive with scribbling notes and opening browser tabs, burdening myself with responsibility to evangelize lovely vibes to others. The upside is that I have a little more space to develop and share _my own_ musical vibes… I hope.
This sounds like BS. Prince would be kidding himself to think that he could avoid Stevie's influence simply by forbidding his music during recording. Stevie's music has been in the airwave since the mid-60's, and Prince grew up with constantly on the radio. Once it's in your brain, you can't just get rid of it by not playing it around you.
I could listen to Stevie all day and even if I tried to copy him, it wouldn't sound anything like him. But I can see where it might be a worry for a master who can cop anybody's licks.
💜 O+-> 💜. A true Maestro. Webster's definition of a Maestro is an eminent composer, conductor, or teacher of music and Prince was all of those things so much more. ☮🕊💜🎶 You are beautiful, loved and missed ☔️

Just came across this. We lost a enormous talent with Prince. Never really listened to his music except for on the radio. Thanks for the upload. One of the greatest and most genius moments in music history and apparently only this recording produced with a mobile phone available. Such a shame. Prince was one of the greatest. He knew when to subordinate himself though. That's what makes him one of the greatest musicians of all time for all eternity.
I'm so grateful to have been blessed to be a part of that ERA. We had countless unmatchable they supported each other with respect no Dissing or Murdering going on. And we could dance all night and day. My Granddaughter told she see how we was inspired to dance. I asked why don't you dance in 2022 she said you can't dance with Rappers style of music.

I got the immense pleasure of witnessing this very thing at Madison square garden. Let me tell you: YOU COULD NOT HEAR A THING OF MUSIC FOR FIVE MINUTES STRAIGHT. That entire place erupted in screams, joy and amazement. it was like nothing I’ve ever experienced. Simply one of the greatest moment of my life . ❤️🔥
Been a stevie fan since the 70's and a prince fan since the 80's...ty for this....RIP Prince
The smile on Prince’s face - what a good time he is having ❤️
PRINCE is cool noticed how he stayed in the background, this video had me smiling....
Are we just going to pass up the fact that Shelia E. was playing tambourine up there right next to Prince too?!?!?!?!?! OMG!!!!!
Totally!
Well spotted!
OMG, thanks for that... woop, for her.... very over looked and so DAMN talented, 😍💋
It was hard not to notice - they stick together all the time, it was epic!
Nice catch!
I could have died happy after witnessing this greatness. Prince playing any kind of music is like food for my soul.
At first I was enjoying the whole aura of two greats on stage. But then I flashed back to Stevie playing "Purple Rain" as tribute to Prince and couldn't finish as he teared up. And well....It got to me.
😥
@@crnkmnky WE DO ALSO ✌🏿
Philip Bailey did the exact same thing in his early EWF days. Finding yourself in your art is a daring feat for timeless masterpieces.
I could listen to Stevie all day and even if I tried to copy him, it wouldn't sound anything like him. But I can see where it might be a worry for a master who can cop anybody's licks.
People like Stevie Wonder should never die. 🙏🏻
True
He won't.
Awww, We love you Stevie and Prince. Prince, you are forever in are hearts. We miss you.
💜 O+-> 💜. A true Maestro.
Webster's definition of a Maestro is an eminent composer, conductor, or teacher of music and Prince was all of those things so much more. ☮🕊💜🎶 You are beautiful, loved and missed ☔️
Woooooow...Prince playn with Stevie....EPIC!!! 💪💪💪
From a 52 year old white guy in Omaha, I've listened to both their music as long as I can remember! Awesome video I just discovered this moment I'm posting! Love this song!
I'm a 69 year old white guy from Scotland and I wish I had been there!!
Pure joy. Namaste and love 🙏
Prince was admired as a great musician but actually underrated as guitarplayer.
You think so? I think people wouldn't imagine him without his guitar.
@@malikabenachour1366 you are absolutely right. But if you watch all those lists of the guitar heroes of the 80ies you read about Eddie van Halen, Steve Lukather, Joe Satriani or Ingwie Malmsteen. Rarely about Prince.
@@tmvideoproduktionen True. I loved when Eric Clapton was asked :"How does it feel to be the greatest guitar player in the world?", he responded: "I don't know. Ask Prince." :-)
@@tmvideoproduktionen indeed but Prince was quite a distance muso-culturally from those guys and so too from the aficionados of 'those' guys, I think then they both just didn't look that hard and if they did they couldn't get their head around it ...'hey guys, forget Satriani I've found the worlds new best ever guitarist'.
One of the best if not thee best guitarist of the last 35 years such a natural talent. Still remember watching lovesexy 88 live as a teenager guitar skills just blew me away.
What a rare treat indeed, two legends performing together.....oh to have been there to witness such an event....genius in music is rare and right there we can see two of America's greatest
Yeah, man. Sheila was on her game, too! So many gifts!!
@@bethelsdaclerk3077 Absolutely! She's a legend too!
What a jam 🎸 ! How priceless that was when Prince came out and went straight to Stevie Wonder to hug him. Beautiful !
I love love how music makes me feel!
Two true musical genius getting together and respecting each other Xx
I bet Prince had a “secret” Bucket List & this was on it! Much love & respect to “The Kid” GOAT (I hope he finished that list he earned it).
So cool! ♥️♥️♥️I miss Prince! I love Stevie Wonder! My dad teaches me who is the best ever singers in the world. He owned his all albums. My dad is singer from Bulgaria Sofia Europe. This so far away from USA. I love this misic and all best singers of the world!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Those two men together: there's never been more talent and beauty on one stage.
and FUNK!
Its doesn't get ANY better than these two sharing a stage. No, it does not.
Thanks for filming this moment when you couldve been living it.🥰
I’ve said elsewhere that Prince always seemed to be competing (to be the best against other artists as well as himself [see the RRHOF tribute to George Harrison’s “While my Guitar Weeps”]), but here, he’s completely collaborating . You know who the mentor and mentee are. This is respect. This love. This is two musical geniuses...And that was an audience in an unforgettable night. I envy them.
There is a story that with exception of Tom Petty nobody
wanted him on the stage.
U absolutlely right, man
The rand rhof was prince sticking it to the white rock critics ...this is a different beast altogether
The George Harrison tribute, Petty and Jeff Lynne didnt think Prince was talented enough...that performance was Princes F you to them
@@AcidicMonkthat's not true. Prince is big fan of Petty. You need to read this article. www.nytimes.com/2016/04/28/arts/music/prince-guitar-rock-hall-of-fame.html
More talent than any one stage should have on it.
Criminal!
Pure facts.
Prince was genius. Full stop. 💜
I attended this gig ..glad to see this
Loved the sense of party chaos/joy while the band kept tight.
Still the coolest groove known to man or woman!!!!
Hi 😊, how are you
agree, doesn't get much better
Man...that Superstition groove was funky enough, but adding Prince's rhythmic guitar...so funky, it was DISGUSTING!! UGH!!! So good LOL
LOVE how Prince was just fine backing up the master!
Prince was fine backing up his friends like Chaka Khan and Stevie etc… ❤
One of the most, if not the most, talented musicians and guitarists the world has seen. His loss to us is immense. If you want to see a master at work, take a look at Prince playing 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' at George Harrison's tribute concert.
I just love how everybody is having so much fun! The horn section is tight and there is so much talent on stage. She playing the mess out that tambourine!
I got a chance to attend a Prince concert in the 80’s; pure musical genius. And I’ve been a of Stevie Wonder since the very first time as a kid in the 70’s. What a musical legacy Prince left and Stevie will leave.
Just came across this. We lost a enormous talent with Prince. Never really listened to his music except for on the radio. He had more talent in his pinky finger than most of today's artists have in their entire body. Could play any instrument ( did on all of his albums) as well as a great stage performer. R.I.P.
C'est le plus grand.
Le grand Stevie Wonder.
Two of the biggest geniuses that were alive as contemporaries. Amazing.
This people are not from this world ! So wonderful sound !
I'm very impressed
Stevie was a major influence on Prince as a musician. Especially the fact he played most of the instruments on his records.
Thanks for the upload. One of the greatest and most genius moments in music history and apparently only this recording produced with a mobile phone available. Such a shame.
Prince was one of the greatest. He knew when to subordinate himself though. That's what makes him one of the greatest musicians of all time for all eternity.
Wow, two geniuses on the same stage... those fans got blessed that night..
I'm smiling, crying and cheering at the same damn time watching this!!!💯🔥🔥
Me too my man, me too!
Prince and Stevie, the last true musical geniuses.
Ah, I remember the 1st time I heard Superstition at a friend's house. My mind was blown. Where did this music come from, I wondered. I was funkified!
Hello how are you doing? My name is Richard
Cet air musical est le 1er que j ai ecoute de Stevie Wonder. Or je l écoute depuis 1976.
I was name after, Mr. Stevie Wonder!!!! We was born to win!!!
I adore this video. Stevie's band and then Prince ... DAMN
Two absolute GIANTS! The musical genius on that stage is off the charts.
I feel like I’ve been happy, but never Stevie Wonder hearing Prince take over his keys happy. The way he came back all business once Prince was on guitar 🎸 was beautiful
I got really emotional over this! I'll never forget how happy I was seeing Prince, Stevie and Chaka together at, I think, the BET awards! OMG!
Saw Stevie at the SECC in Glasgow late 80s, four HOURS on stage, never even left for a bathroom break. Had to be rescued by his minder when he stood up on his piano to sing 😂 To this day still my very fave concert ever!
Two of the Greatest . ....pure Genius
Oh I didn’t want it to end! I always watch the less famous musicians on the stage because you’re watching somebody experience a pinnacle moment in their career and life, a moment that they will remember forever. It makes me smile from ear to ear. Imagine working so hard for so long on your talent that you get chosen to play on stage with Stevie Wonder. Just imagine that. And also the same exact HOW IS THIS REAL feeling about Prince. PRINCE! Putting the two together must be mind boggling. I am so happy for these people. Total life goals. Imagine being that good at something! ❤️
The sax 🎷 guy and the clapping guy glancing at each other like “OMFG” and then clapping guy got to HAND A MICROPHONE TO STEVIE WONDER WHILE PRINCE PLAYED STEVIE WONDER’S PIANO while trumpet guy and piano lady dance. They are living this moment so hard. I would kill to hear these musicians talk about this experience. Fantastic. 💗 ❤️ 🎵
Real music real tallent real instraments no computer generated sounds. Look how happy every one is..
Two most aptly named musicians ever to grace the planet.
Oh to have been in that audience at that time I'm huge Prince fan but Stevie Wonder is my all time favorite entertainer 💞💞
You captured my exact first/second/third thoughts!
Hello how are you doing ? My name is Richard
I was at this show with my ex, first concert for him ever! And to witness Prince walk on stage and hear the reaction that night still sends a chill.
Amazing artistry, reverence, respect and homage... Wonder if we will ever see this level of that again🤷🏾♀️
Hello how are you doing? My name is Richard
Wow, that was great! I remember when Mr. Wonder was called 'Little Stevie Wonder' & would hang out at Motown & have the amazing musicians there teach him various aspects of their collective musical knowledge & techniques. They say he was like a sponge absorbing it all. Really cool to see two such accomplished multi-instrumentalists performing together. 🤘❗❗❗
Remember little Stevie and his harp, old Detroiter here,
Quel moment ! Magnifique, Merci 💖💖💖
Genius everywhere on that stage. Not just Stevie and Prince, but every single person on stage top of their game.
What's the odds of two absolute legends being on the same stage, at the same time? This is one of those magical moments that you wouldn't dare dream could happen. Many Kings but only ONE PRINCE ❤

How cool!!! Prince one of the best ever.... incredibly gifted musician and songwriter. He seemed completely happy and content to just be on stage and play in the background with another great.
Sheila E. is bringing the guitar to Prince ?
Damn, yeah, I saw Stevie Wonder yesterday, cool, yeah, Prince came jamming with him too... :o
I love Sheila E. She is beautiful!!! 😍 She’s a genius in her own right.
@@DeCurtaRican She's great indeed, a genius, ? Nope.
Excellent! Very spiritual musicians! Awesome! Positive vibes! We need more of this today!
Absolutely legendary & amazing performance !!!!!
