    I loved seeing Saukki's "Voyager" Quattrovelo, running around in Western Siberia. I'm sort of surprised that the Katanga velomobile, wasn't on your list. The way it can be separated to allow maintenance and repairs, along with its 0.1 aerodynamic drag coefficient, makes it one of the better velomobile options out there. The drive train options on it are pretty cool too. It isn't the fastest though.

    Most of these velomobiles are little more than death traps. BioHybrid is cool but misses the point by not lean steering. A leaning trike/quad can be made the width of a normal bicycle handlebar so it takes up far less road space allowing more vehicles to move usefully on congested roads. The tilt on bends prevents it falling over.

    • @Electric-Rideables
      @Electric-Rideables  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great information! We are definitely going to include leaning/tilting models in future videos.

    • @b_uppy
      @b_uppy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Jonathan Carr
      Agreed. These are more visible, which is a safety plus. They typically run at slower speeds, too. AAdditionaly they can still access bike lanes, too.

    • @b_uppy
      @b_uppy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Think one of the flaws of a leaning one is if you use it to carry things. It could shift too much. Also think speed on cornering may be a negative on shared trails because of leaning into other lane.

    The podbike (although the name "pod-bike" is somewhat a misnomer), the Iris and the Bio-Hybrid and of course the Northern Lights Motors 428 my faves. The Quattro Velo is starting to grow on me ..although it looks like something from out of the 30's/40's. Or some kind of missile or fuselage. These are all cool personal transports and I'd love to have one for short range trips around my town/city.

    The NLM looks stylish, but since it is not concepted to be competitive in velocity (repeating the regrettable and unneccessary example of the "Le Mans" Velomobile) - why not mount a mudgard on the front wheels? Instead of throwing the mud in the face of the driver? Yes, a whishbone front undercarriage looks more clean than a McPherson, but is dragwise also as terrible anyway.
    Frikar is illegal in Germany because of the lack (and impossibility) of a windscreen wiper. Other windscreens, like that of Quattro Velo, can be put away, because of the smaller size (that is called the in-case-of-rain-open-up-to-let-it-in method). Even if your velomobile is not a pedelec, you would want to use *some* electricity for navigation, lighting etc. - so you would surely want your thing to have *some* space on top, that is flat or onedimensionally curved, for a flexible solar cell.

    A couple of these were described as "last mile transportation" vehicles...but would fail abysmally in that regard. To succeed, they'd have to be able to travel on bus/train/etc - and I don't see that being possible. e-Scooters and folding bikes _do_ fit the bill.

      “Last mile” is usually used to refer to package delivery, of e-commerce shipments. Once the shipment arrives on the city of destination, the “last mile” delivery to the recipient is done

      'Last-mile' is a shipping industry term. It denotes the segment of shipping that delivers directly to the customer. These would work for getting to the city, but would definitely fall short going city to city. Bus systems may need a rethink to accommodate them somehow...

      @@HonestSaxSound-unEdited- Snob alert!!! I never said I had problems with my contis. My opinion of the Schwalbe I talked about was puncture seal and they have issue with their sidewall regardless of weight. I had better result with Bontrager. Also when I have had punctures on the Schwalbe it takes longer to seal. I never even know I have a puncture with my conti. So my weight isn't the issues since people I know that ride on locals teams that weigh 90lbs less say the same thing. A good friend I ride with is about 5'10 and normal weight for is size and he got a puncture that wouldn't seal. Never had that problem with my Conti. As a heavy rider I do my research on all aspects of what I purchase from wheels, frame, geometry. I have a Dogma F10 disc, with Dura ace Di2, and Roval CLX 32 No issues with flats. As a former pro athlete I push my bike which means I sometime can't avoid bad roads. still no issue with my conti tires. Many crit riders are my size and are a hell of a lot faster than me. They only time I mention weight to big guys is when they want a lighter bike vs loosing weight. The reason I mention the tires is because many people are going to use this vehicle and not be 180lb or less or you're going to have a lot of head aches. Bikes have weight limits , but do people care, nope. As a business owner. Best to protect yourself from customer service head ache. Get it now.

    i think you made a mistake on the Mulsanne by saying it's frame is aluminum, actually aluminium velomobiles are cheaper and not built for speed, i'm pretty sure te Mulsanne like the previous Quatrovelo are built with carbon fiber by hand, that's why they are expensive

    • @Electric-Rideables
      @Electric-Rideables  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for catching that! Very much appreciated. Yeah, carbon fiber is way different and more expensive than aluminum.

    • @Quesjer1
      @Quesjer1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The correct answer is: the shell is made from composite material: Carbon/epoxy. And in there is an aluminium sub-frame to mount the drive-components on. This is common practice in many velomobiles around. Sometimes this subframe is (partially) Carbon as well.

    It's never about some ideological excuse for wasting money. I'm after a practical solution to having an ICE car and an ICE truck in a town where a small, enclosed transport would serve me well if I could maintain 45 mph in it. A 96-volt, pedal assist car, with reduction gearing, weighing under 100 pounds might be just the ticket.

  • @kenwalker4386

    Some of these look a great idea to reduce pollution, but I'm imagining a future where it is might be just as congested with those and electric cars where I live in outer London. If diesel and petrol cars vanish from our roads and are replaced with these and also electric cars, then I'm sure the government will swiftly switch the vehicle road tax on to them. Still, at least the air will be cleaner. I still think the ordinary bike is the best bet and it doesn't have a parking problem, which I imagine these will still have to some degree.

      Well, you could use them for a local commuting or riding your local town, then use trains, buses, car pooling to travel longer distances. And rent bikes locally when remote or on vacation. All cars will be replaced by electric cars, the shifting has already begun.

    • @sarahhilton7681
      @sarahhilton7681 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      But the roads and parking that would be needed for them would be much much smaller and so less obtrusive and more eco friendly (due to large wide roads and huge parking lots not needing to be built). And if regular bikes and public transit are used more too, then I don’t really think congestion will be much of a problem.
