  • Miss South Africa Finalist Chidimma Adetshina Faces Xenophobic Backlash | Firstpost Africa
The Miss South Africa competition has become a centre of debate on national identity and xenophobia. Chidimma Adetshina, a 2024 Miss South Africa pageant finalist, has been subjected to online hate and abuse with many users questioning her identity and participation in the competition. Adetshina was born in South Africa to a Nigerian father and a mother of Mozambican descent. But as she moves closer to the crown, criticism against her has intensified. Many critics say she identifies more with Nigeria than South Africa. The country's minister of art, sport and culture Gayton McKenzie also jumped into the debate. Watch this video for details.

Have you heard about the role of a constitution in defining citizenship and rights within a country? In South Africa, the constitution dictates these matters. If you believe that changes are necessary-such as excluding individuals born in South Africa to non-South African parents from citizenship-it's crucial to address this through appropriate legal and political channels. Until any such changes are made, individuals in this situation are considered full South African citizens with the same rights as others.
It's disheartening to see hostility among Africans. Historically, we have supported each other significantly. For instance, many schools were built in South Africa through contributions from Nigerian and Cameroonian students.
Instead of directing this negativity toward fellow Africans, consider addressing similar issues where they genuinely exist, such as in predominantly white communities that have created exclusive spaces. There is a larger issue at play, where external forces seek to divide us by borders and foster disunity among Africans.
We must recognize our shared heritage and work together against common challenges. By understanding our common identity as Africans, we can unite to confront collective adversities. Divisiveness only serves those who aim to weaken us.
our unity and collaboration are vital for progress. It is crucial to address these issues with empathy and understanding, rather than allowing historical grievances and internal divisions to hinder our collective advancement.

They told South Africans that her mother is South African but yet can't tell South Africans about the school she attended and who her mother really is because according to South Africans her stepmother is zulu but not her real mother. No one comes forward because, according to South Africans, once again, they told them she was born at this public hospital , but the hospital don't have any records of her. The other one she was born in the township , but people don't know her, and South Africans in the townships should've come forward long ago telling people that they know her. In her Miss South Africa interview, she said she's from Capetown, so this story of this lady is giving people headaches😂. She never showed anything that represents South Africa because people wonder why the mom didn't gave her a Zulu name but only Nigerian names😂😂😂. Oh, and the last 1 of both her parents are foreigners. Just like when black south Africans move to America or Britain or any other European countries legally or illegally they will eventually become a citizen of those places and their children will be European from the day their born. Black Africans can't go to other people's countries and claim to be a citizen to get social services and be cool with that well bitching when it happens in south Africa. Black south Africans can't feed themselves or maintain their infrastructure and their schools are pathetic that's why China is there taking care of them. As black Africans leave for other countries for a better life plan on the other people to leave for your country and others like Mexico. Just cause 3rd world poverty comes to European countries looking for handouts doesn't mean European people are just gonna fund your life. They'll move to where you left and make it better especially since property values are so low compared to European countries. Can't stop white flight

Journalists often miss the mark when discussing South Africa, especially regarding African migration. Thousands of educated Africans, including many Nigerians, contribute significantly to our country, often holding positions as deans and professors at our universities. These individuals do not face the backlash aimed at undocumented migrants, who are frequently involved in criminal activities. It’s these criminals, not law-abiding citizens, that South Africans oppose. We’re talking about people fleeing justice in Nigeria, engaging in human trafficking, mutilation, and other heinous crimes. Why should South Africans tolerate this? Yes, we have our own criminals, but do we need to import more?
As for Ms., her participation in a contest that is a source of national pride has drawn scrutiny. Instead of celebrating her South African identity, she highlights her Nigerian and Mozambican heritage on social media. While that’s her choice, she is representing South Africa and should, therefore, show pride in being South African. This scrutiny wouldn’t exist if she had simply embraced her South African identity. Moreover, it's now revealed that her mother possesses a stolen ID, causing significant hardship for the rightful owner, who has struggled to obtain birth certificates for her children due to this fraud. This situation has understandably sparked frustration.

and according to her own father, he only met her mother in 2010 for the first time, that is what started this whole thing, it would mean she is only 13 or 14 years old.

Every country faces immigration issues. South Africa is too small to take everyone from Africa who is dreaming about a better life. Conflict is bound to happen unless African countries fix themselves.
Our African brothers know very that South Africans have been welcoming to them for years until they started nonsense. They know very well that South Africans have the same issue with white people too, it's just that they as ordinary people are easy to catch, rich people( everywhere) who happen to be white most of the time get away with things an ordinary person cannot get away with.
African countries never take accountability for the chaos that happens in South Africa. They are always quick to point fingers and blame South Africans who are still struggling with their own issues.

Follow the Story carefull, She doesnt speak any South African Native Languages & yet she was born in Soweto.. Her father lied on live radio saying. She was born in South Africa in 2010 meaning she should be 14 years now.
Again her also said his child is Nigerian. She can't even Sing South African National Anthem. Every child that school in South African schools knows it especially those who are in primary school.
We have so much Diversity its impossible for child how school in South African not to Speak 2 official languages cos its the standard in all South African schools study English & one native language.
