The nationality of an individual cannot change or be denounced. Citizenship can be acquired, updated, changed, or renounced through legal formalities. eg Tendai Mtawarira,Strive Masiyiwa,Billy rauchenpat, charlize theron, elon mask. South africa has its own legal pathways to citizenship.
Some countries don’t accept dual citizenship, so denouncing your current citizenship is required before they grant you citizenship. Eg Japan doesn’t give second citizenship…I’ve watched TH-cam videos of 1or 2 Americans who chose to denounce their American citizenship in order to become Japanese citizens…they also wanted to avoid paying American taxes as they’d been living in Japan for decades and American IRS will make you file annually& pay tax to them even if you choose to stay in another country for decades…only way is to denounce US citizenship to stop paying tax there. Anyway Japan doesn’t hand out citizenship to any foreigners(white, Asian, Black, or whatever…) like they are desperate to collect strays…they do though give citizenship based on mother or father being a Japanese citizenship, granted you don’t have any other citizenship (remember can’t be Japanese citizen & citizen of another country…pick one)

He did not speak to what the situation is with regards to the amendment of 2013 where children born to foreign parents with SA permanent residence. According to the amendment the chi;ld born to these parents automatically become a South African citizen
The issue was not about her citizenship or its validity. The issue that started this whole debate is the fact that CULTURALLY she is not South African, she does not represent South African heritage or culture, she does not follow or practice our customs or speak our indigenous languages, so the question was asked “is she fit to represent the nation and its people on the world stage?”. Yes she is a South African on paper so she has the right to compete but does she have the lived South African experience? Does she represent the average South African woman in any capacity? Or will she wear the South African title but fly her Nigerian flag high? - THAT is our main concern.
So many issues about citizenship where not touched on🙄🙄. After 1994,gou could acquire citizenship by producing a baptism certificate from a church in Sa😹. Acquire citizenship by producing a school attendance letter. Citizenship if you had relatives bearing the same surname as yours but are South Africans🙄🙄 not to mention citizenship that was easly bought from officials. If you could prove your 10yrs stay in South Africa, you also could apply for citizenship. But then came 2002😂 things changed to what citizenship is now. For me, I put the blame on the system then and corrupt officials. Soutj Africa is a porous country and we have ourselves to blame😅😅. This Miss South Africa parents might have fallen under this categories I've mentioned,
@@MNJ_Agri If both of the mothers parents are not from here then the mother cant be a South african, only if one of the parents is SA then we can say that
People are so ignorant with hate about this girl and think she will be disqualified but little did they know that this girl's citizenship allows her to remain in the competition otherwise she would've been gone already and i would like to thank deputy minister for clarifying
The Deputy Minister must tell us if the Mother is South African and they must check on their register if she didn't acquire her citizenship fraudulently.
My mother was born in South Africa to a South African mother (whose parents, forefathers were also South Africans) & Malawian father(they were never married). The department of Home Affairs refuses to acknowledge her as South African. The family has tried to have DNA tests on her & her surviving sibling but Home Affairs refused to sign those documents as if the money will come from their coffers. So the deputy minister may have spoken well, however it is stuff they don't practice.
So this thing comes from a long way, how did the mother get the citizenship if she’s a Mozambican born in SA? Secondly so for someone to be a SA citizen, one of his/her parents must be SAn citizen and the person(child) must be born in SA?
For one to be a SA citizen, one of the parents has to be a SA citizen but the child doesn't have to be born in SA. Eg, if you are a SA citizen and you move out of SA, then get a child outside there, your child is entitled to a SA citizenship by birth because of you, if he so wishes. Before 1995, the child would claim SA citizenship by descent but they now changed to by birth.
@@MNJ_Agri I have a feeling that the mother or the mother's parents had acquired SA citizenship, may be by naturalisation. There is no way SA can grant citizenship if both parents are not SA citizens. One has to be. And even if you as a SA citizen went out of the country. Got into a relationship out there and have a child. That child when claiming SA citizenship has to prove that you as the parent is a real SA citizen. They check your records before they grant your child citizenship. I know someone who went thru the process.

@andrewkgaogelo, so in other words, she loves the country of her grandmother more. The whole issue here is because of her not recognizing South Africa as her country as much as she's proudly showcasing her Nigerian roots. So, with that said, people are not convinced that her mother is South African but rather from Mozambique. That's why the person you answered in her comment said that. Remember, maybe her high school friends said something to someone, etc.

Such an enlightening conversation, I am personally learning of course not with preconceived or preemptive ideas. I careless about who who gets citizenship if it follows legal channels.
This is fantastic but we need to do better. The rule should be, both parents MUST be South African citizens! Qatar adopted this rule, they refuse to get replaced by Indians and Banglas.
Why , Mr Extremist 😂😂😂 or it's racism
Qatar along with the other 5 other GCC countries are not part of United Nations. This could be an option for SA. But then they would lose much much more in terms of loans, IMF support, no humanitarian support from UN affiliates such as FAO and UNICEF. The nationality of an individual cannot change or be denounced. Citizenship can be acquired, updated, changed, or renounced through legal formalities.
eg Tendai Mtawarira,Strive Masiyiwa,Billy rauchenpat,charlize theron,elon mask.

This is now clear.
