I love these winter scenes! I also loved the space and star scenes. I am a beginner and I find these videos to be so encouraging, inspiring and helpful. Now if I can just figure out how much paint and water to put on my brush as I seem to be quite heavy handed with the paint! Lol!
Ok so i'm a beginer in painting and i've done a couple of them so far and i think they turned out ok but after finding these videos i'm seeing new ways to apply different details.Again i'm new so i don't know much i've always used pencil but i wanted to expand on what i could do as an artist and painting always seemed like a lot of fun. After watching some of your videos i can't help but be amazed.I'll be trying my hand with different things i've seen you do and i can't wait to see how it turns out.I also can't wait to see what kind of art work you do next.
I absolutely love your Videos. It is so amazing what beautiful Artworks you are able to do in just a few minutes. Your Videos and paintings are so inspiring for me. Thank you very much for sharing them with us. Sorry my bad english and greetings from germany.
I wish I could paint as loose as you do. I may start out that way then I get too picky if you know what I mean. I look forward to seeing more, especially the auroras.
This was the first vid that I watched of you and I immediately subscribed. Your painting is amazing and it really inspired me to do a painting of my own.
did it...not too bad if I say so myself.. but nothing like yours... its so funny how 30 people can paint the same picture and not 1 looks like the other...but they are all uniquely awesome
So buautiful! I tried my best doing this paintig but I did a big mess with the snow at the end ahahha every time i do the stars or the snow it's a disaster ahahah Waiting for your next work :D
I would recommend buying a set by Artists Loft. They are fairly cheap and hold together well. I list the brushes I use in the description of each video
I got mine a long time ago, I'm unsure of where it was purchased. However, here are a couple of similar options www.amazon.ca/Princeton-Art-Brush-Mop-Filbert/dp/B000HF726I/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&qid=1480175949&sr=8-20&keywords=mop+painting+brush www.amazon.ca/Soft-Grip-White-Blending-Brush-1-Width/dp/B000XZAH46/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1480175930&sr=8-8&keywords=mop+painting+brush canada.michaels.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-MichaelsCanada-Site/en_CA/Product-Show?pid=M10358519&cgid=845158854 I prefer synthetic bristles but in theory those should work. If you ask for a 'mop brush' in a store like Michaels you should also find something similar. I hope that helps!
Hello! Thank you so much for sharing your skills, love it :) I have a question about the light reflected on the mountains. You say in your videos that the light that comes from behind an object illuminates each side of it and that the center is dark. But when you make mountains, the light is always on one side. How would that make if you made the light on either side and the center darker? Would that make them less realistic? Thanks for your reply and sorry if my english is not perfect! :D
I just started painting. In your supply list I see a large and medium round brush. I purchased a large round brush but does not look like yours. Your brush looks flat sort of like a large stenciling brush! Before I use mine want to make sure I purchased the correct brush. My round brush has a pointy head. Thanks!
It sounds like you purchased a sash brush. Which is very close to a mop brush, which is fairly close to what I used here. They are all kind of in the same family. Provided your brush is fairly soft the point at the end shouldn't render any streaky issues. If you find it doing so I would recommend applying the brush to the canvas on slightly more of an angle. I hope that helps!
You always take more time than the 10 min announced. Why don't you call it 15 min and show us the finishing touches that we don't get to see while you're doing it? I love your paintings, by the way! I just want to see the whole process.
Ryan O'Rourke - Artist. Thanks for your response. I do understand about keep extending the time. It's happened to me too, and it's so true. So don't worry we'll keep watching your videos anyway! And thanks for sharing them with us!
Hey now, three weeks ago I only took 8 minutes lol But in all fairness, you're right. Most of these videos do take 12 or 13. I have a couple of reasons for what I decided upon the 10 minute mark. Firstly, my camera is quite old and likes to shut off without telling me around that point.. So I generally upload whatever footage it actually records. Secondly, if I gave myself 15 minutes then I would probably cheat and take 18. Escalation would occur and soon I would have 30, or 40 minute videos, which defeats the purpose of this series. Thirdly, the additional minutes are just spent adding more stars, more trees, more highlights, and all of those steps were previously explained. So I don't leave out anything technique wise. It's just more time spent doing the same things. With that being said, when my camera doesn't turn off I do/will try to include the extra footage. I actually believe I did with last week's winter wonderland painting. (edit: I just checked, I did include the additional steps.) That response was probably longer than it should have been and I do apologize for the miniature novel lol I'm glad you enjoy the series it will continue.
It's achievable. However, it would be significantly more difficult. If you do decide to try this on Bristol board I would advise using little to no water in your mixes. Best of luck!
My camera (which is about 8 years old now) seems to shut off randomly around the 10 minute mark so sometimes I get the additional footage, sometimes I don't.. With that being said, I will try to include it more in the future :)
@ Rebecca Lynn. No thanks. I'm not interested. I am married. You keep following me and stalking me on the videos I watch. Please stop harassing me or I will report you.
My Saturday's get a lot better when your art pops up on my feed!

So buautiful! I tried my best doing this paintig but I did a big mess with the snow at the end ahahha every time i do the stars or the snow it's a disaster ahahah
Waiting for your next work :D
Haha, I also frequently end up with 'a big mess'. That's alright though. We practice, we learn, and we grow as artists!

Could you do a similar painting but with the Aurora streaking across the sky is would love to see your approach to that.
I'm currently planning two aurora borealis paintings, you will see them fairly soon!
I just did this and I needed 2 hours xD
(Okay, I had problems with the colours)
It's ok to take your time :)
now if some one wanted to add glow in the dark paint to have it shin at night how would you add it? kind of new to painting
What kind of brushes do you recommend? I'm new to the painting world and I'm very lost on what to buy 😞
I would recommend buying a set by Artists Loft. They are fairly cheap and hold together well. I list the brushes I use in the description of each video
Is there any way you can make the sketch a little darker so I can see it enough to copy it? Thank you.
where did you get your large round headed brush I can't find any on line or in stores
I got mine a long time ago, I'm unsure of where it was purchased. However, here are a couple of similar options

How do you prepare your canvas?
I don't, I like to make these tutorials as simple as possible :)

Haha, thank you, but I'm not sure. I haven't used fabric paint before. I would however implore you to try it, that's how we learn :)

Do you use just regular canvas'?
I do!

How would this work if I used Bristol board?
It's achievable. However, it would be significantly more difficult. If you do decide to try this on Bristol board I would advise using little to no water in your mixes. Best of luck!
where can l get boards
I'm using a small canvas here, but you can buy small canvas boards at almost every art store. Michaels, Currys, Above Ground, ect.
Hey no fair! Lol I wanted to see what you did during the cheat section. :(
My camera (which is about 8 years old now) seems to shut off randomly around the 10 minute mark so sometimes I get the additional footage, sometimes I don't.. With that being said, I will try to include it more in the future :)
