    Hearing the rocks hit underneath the classic Land Rover makes me happy and want to cry at the same time.

    Bless you, Donald! Your description of the VW Beetle and the Land Rover having, "one of the vaguest, longest throw manual transmissions you could ever imagine" brought back fond memories of the beat to death 1964 Ford F-100 Scout Camp truck that was my baptism to stick shifts during my 16th Summer, in 1971. The shifter was so worn-out that you literally couldn't find the gears. My solution was to cut a 5" section of steel rebar, deburr its ends and scrounge-up a couple of nuts that matched the thread on the shift lever. Made a couple of practice welds (my 1st) on some scrap metal and managed to weld 1 of the 2 nuts to the rebar. The other nut was used to secured the new T shifter @ an angle which provided enough leverage to prevent the lever from swiveling in a 12" diameter circle and making the gears reasonably findable once again. That old truck taught me to drive a stick, problem-solve independently, utilize my resources, operate a cut-off saw, a grinder as well as to weld. Lot of valuable life lessons that Summer as well as friends and memories which are still with me to this day...although, sadly that old work truck is long gone.

    In some regions of Africa, for several decades, the indigenous people thought there was only one type of vehicle in the world...The British Land Rover!

      @JonDingle 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheMentalblockrock The original Land Cruiser was beaten to most part of the world by Land Rover hence why John Matthews comment stands first.
      You may want to look up Top Gear and the their trip across Bolivia, "The most unrelaibel car in the world is the most reliable car in the world - the Range Rover". In that program, the Toyota was very unreliable indeed!

      @@JonDingle Land Cruiser beaten by Land rover? Haha, i was just the other way around. Land rover lost that battle long time ago due to reliability. and Top Gear is all staged as they travel with 20 plus cars and mechanics on board.

    Lovely old Landy my friend, she looks as sharp as a bowl of Razor soup!
    I always love to watch video's of Landy's in the USA, you really appreciate 'em & I, living in the UK find it a huge compliment, especially when looking at some of the amazing machines your country produces.
    I've ran series Landrovers for over 40 years, done just about every job on them there is to do & still love 'em to bits & always will.
    Another reason is that in 1971 a drunk, driving a Rover 90, hit head on at 60mph on the crest of a hill my dad's 109, there were 5 people in it who only suffered minor injuries, the front bumper, engine, diff & prop shaft were all knocked back over a foot, along with the entire gearbox, rear prop shaft & rear diff, smashing both axles in half. Had it been your average car they could all so easily have died, so you can see why I love 'em so much.
    The 109 was out of commission for 6 weeks. the big heavy Rover 90 was written off immediately, almost unrecognisable.
    Once again your old Landy looks gorgeous pal, she's a credit to you.

    My first car was a 1977 Chevy Impala. Big, 4 door, rear wheel drive V8. I've had almost every variant of that vehicle through the years from the different GM brands. Buick Electra, Oldsmobile Delta 88, Caprice Classic, but never a Cadillac because they weren't the same body style. And now I have a 96 Buick Roadmaster sedan which is the last of the breed. It's amazing how your first vehicle stays with you.

    Did a gearbox update, wiring harness and some frame work to one very similar last year. Their certainly easier to work on than the kaiser willys products of the same vintage, the floor comes out! All I think of when I see these is Ace Ventura.

    There’s no way this is a 1970 as it has the headlights mounted on the radiator panel. Headlights were moved outboard to the fenders in late 1969 so this has to be a 1969 or earlier model year.
