I have found you dont need any bait in the minnow traps at all. Found out by accident when my minnow trap got blown off of my dock and into the water. When i went to retrieve my trap the next day, it was full of minnows.. no bait.
@@aleckrug1554 Yes.. it was. Also.. after the galvanized trap rusted, i bought a black rubberized trap and didnt catch any minnows.. so i returned it and bought a new galvanized trap and it worked great.
@@carl6405 WTF I think my trap is just cursed. I throw it in a spot where I catch shiners with a small cast net but can't get one minnow in a minnow trap. Iv tried bread and wet cat food. I'm going to try bread and dry dog food tomorrow and try to set my first trap through the ice in a pond. Then another in the creek at the shiner spot. Only spot on the creek that isn't frozen cuz the tube drop the pond dumps out right there. Seen a bunch of really small suckers hanging out there today I'd like to get.
@@aleckrug1554 Something else I discovered in my case is not to put the trap in very deep water but in water, just a little deeper than the trap itself. Look for an area where you see minnows congregating near the shore line. My creek is a salt water creek so not sure if that makes any difference.
@@carl6405 my creek has a tube that is outflow from the pond. I seen tons of shiner and tadpole's swimming around there all summer and seen a bunch of small suckers there the other day.. thing is kids go over there all the time. I'll have to set a trap there at dark and check it really early. I gotta chek a trap today that's under the ice like a foot on bottom near a tube where the street drains run. Really rocky right there. Hope I have something today. N I don't think the kids went on the ice to pull my trap. Fingers crossed
Feng Gao try small creeks and streams. Ponds don’t usually have many quality fishing minnows unless it has golden shiners or mosquito minnows around the edges near the banks. But creeks and streams usually produce good fishing minnows like creek chubs, stone rollers ... etc hope this helps
Hey gonzo I'm having a hard time locating minnows to trap in in Ohio not big lakes around me and not much of a selection river wise I've tried creeks and have only had luck with crick chubs any advice?
What kind of trap is that? Where can I buy one?

Well...knwing the combination is one thing......Looking for a random tub of minnows... that'll take a while
I used G40, put some bread in it and drop it in small pond. Tried a few times got nothing. I really have no idea why. Anybondy knows please?
