- I look at one of the more popular horse films, as voted by my Patrons. Second to last of DreamWorks' 2D animated movies to run wild and free.

I liked how this movie didn’t make any of the animals talk outside from the narration.
I know right that is a really good change and I love it
Aside from Prince of Egypt, this is easily my favorite DreamWorks movie. I've always had a love for horses, and I really love how the animation is free to be expressive for most of the movie. No talking animals. Just realistic horses emoting through expressions and movement. I adore it. I really hate what Netflix has done with it, but at least we'll always have the original masterpiece.
That theme horse really does have some spirit I recon
I was actually surprised that the animals didn't talk in this movie, instead letting the visuals tell the story, save for some narration and songs. It's really unexpected that someone would make animated film with little to no dialog and very reality grounded. I really gotta give props to DreamWorks for that! Honestly, we need more movies that let the visuals tell the story, rather than bloat them up with dialog... well okay, maybe not too often. Also, the fact that DreamWorks acknowledged this film and made some spin-off material for Netflix is very admirable!
Yeah I mean in this movie the animals didn't talk and let the narration of the main character as well as the visual and songs do the talking is a very good change.
Yes I agree that how unexpected it is that DreamWorks would make an animated movie with animals as main characters that has no dialog and let the visuals, narration of the main character, and the songs to tell the story and I hope we get a few more animated movies like that from DreamWorks.
The songs are Spirit's secondary voice of narration, the making of pretty much explained the why :)
This is my favorite DreamWorks movie. Still holds up today.

@@GrandCorsair Yeah and it honestly isn't what i expected, i watched the entire new Spirit series and the movie doesn't use the same models or even the same VA's. I hope it will be decent at least cause the series honestly isn't bad

@@GrandCorsair It plays years after Spirit and Rain where their descendant is the leader of a herd in a now more modernized West. Lucky befriends the Horse and names him Spirit but she doesn't full on tame him nor does she allow anyone to tame him fully. They have many adventures together alongside their new friends as they not only help protect the wild Horses and at times even save them but also deal with bad people, discovering more about Lucky's dead mother and more. All i can say is try some episodes of season 1
I remember hearing Michelle Branch's "You Set Me Free" on the trailer for this movie and being disappointed that I never heard it among the other songs. The chorus got me hyped up for how majestic it felt. And both back then and right now I am just in love with how beautifully the horses were animated.
Sound The Bugle song makes me always teary eye, because song reminds me about my black poodle, who was born in 2002 and past away 2014.
I love this movie as a kid, and I still do today!
Well, that style of narration in animal movies ends with Walking With Dinosaurs movie, and it's a disaster.
I remember seeing this when I was younger, and I love it!
Director Kelly Asbury passed away last year.

I loved Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron for its emotional story and the passionate lyrics, and I'm not even a horse guy.

I grew up with this movie. Well, with the German dub, since I'm German, but it's beautiful either way, I actually like the German version as much as the English which is rare. Ever since I got fluent in English I don't like most German dubs. But with Spirit it barely matters anyway. The German versions of the songs are as good as the English ones, I can sing most songs in this movie in both languages. I love the animation, the characters, the story, and the way I still find new details everytime I watch Spirit, although having watched this movie for at least thirty times. As a child it was just that fun horse movie that taught me that being stubborn can be a really good thing if your life is hard. But over the years I started to truly understand this movie. I started to understand that the colonel isn't evil at all. He is just a man of his time. I started to understand what the eagle really stands for, that the eagle is a symbol for spirits freedom, for everything he wants. I'm 20 now and I have learned so much only because of Spirit. I am what I am because of this movie. So yes, I have an unconditional love for spirit. I won't watch that movie they bring out this year. I actually like the series quite a bit, it isn't bad for what it is and some of the human characters kinda grew on me, but the first spirit, my spirit, is already perfect enough for me. I don't need any movie to try and replicate this because nothing can replicate this feeling of calmness and this warmth I always feel when I just think about spirit.
This is my favorite DreamWorks movie.

My girlfriend is crazy about this film, but I didn't grow up with it, so I'm pretty indifferent.
El Dorado was a fav of mine. don't bash it. but Spirit had amazing painted backgrounds that inspire my own oil paintings

Do you think you could review 1986's "An American Tail"? That movie doesn't get enough love. Mostly cause its ALWAYS gets overshadowed by its MASSIVELY inferior sequel, "FIevel Goes West".
