It's really weird that they made Leo look malnourished to the point where you can see his ribcage and any one of his bones could probably break like a twig, even though the film is trying to say vegetarianism is a good thing.
Believe it or not, there was actually a historical account of a lion who refused to eat meat and still managed to eat a healthy life. (Little Tyke. Look her up.)

I think Maximus knowing Leo by name beforehand was a translation error or something. Like he meant to say “Lion” but the director was drunk or something and didn’t correct Mercer.

I find it strange that the movie never gives a reason why Leo doesn't eat meat. It would made more sense if Leo's body is repulsed by meat and therefore must be vegetarian like with the example you gave us from the Animal Kingdom manga; But here, we are only told that Leo is vegetarian with no reasoning. Is Leo vegetarian just because, well that's not healthy for him because he looks malnourished as all hell. So the writers were just being lazy and didn't care about making this movie any good.
Yeah this was 3 yrs but yeah Masha and The Bear is 10x better rhan this movie. The animation is amazing, the characters are all likable and it’s charming and funny. I haven’t watched the newer seasons but the first few seasons are my favs. I don’t watch it in English though, I listen to it better in Russian cause Masha sounds more like a kid than her English va ( who is a kid but seems a tad annoying, yeah Masha is supposed to be an annoying character but I never got that with her voice, mainly her actions ).
If You want to see a better movie about a Carnivore turned vegetarian watch Wolfy the incredible secret. It’s animated better has a better story and their is a twist to why the main character is a vegetarian.
