Absolutely brilliant tip. Going to try this very soon on my 2019 Audi a5 coupe. 14.7:1 air/fuel ratio is actually the most efficient at normal operating conditions, ie; average temp and pressure etc. 12:1 would give you a bigger bang for your buck 💣👍🏼
14.7:1 is stoichiometric ratio for kg of air : kg of fuel, to theoretically burn all of the fuel and release the most energy from the given amount of fuel. MAF measures air flow, the ecu also receives inputs from throttle position sensor (demand), ambient air temperature, engine coolant temperature, it can work out fuel grade (octane), there are knock sensors that retard ignition/ richen mixture; exhaust sensors check for emissions. Allegedly some oil impregnated air filters leave deposits on MAFs reducing their functionality. Generally more power is made from ratios
Was looking to get an s5 vert with the 3.0 supercharger...but stumbled over your channel and you and others have me thinking of upgrading a 2.0 instead...which are just far more available than s5 vert and cheaper
Not quite so easy on the CREC engine found on many cars late 2014+ (which includes the Audi S4 B8.5 in the UK - but not USA). This is due to the introduction of Manifold Port Injection (MPI) and these injectors block access to the charge air sensors (basically MAP sensors) on either side of the supercharger. You have to remove the supercharger to gain access. Non CREC just have a black plastic cover in place of the MPI and super easy to access those two MAP sensors. Of course I am happy to have this trade-off because the MPI system pretty much eliminates carbon build up on the valves. The throttle body MAP sensor is easier to access if you remove the intake tube etc going into it and an electrical connector above.
Thanks for the comment on this - engines these days are so hands off we forget about detail like this. this is ESPECIALLY true if you run the oiled K&N filter. Turbo also also blows a little oil through the system (why oil catch cans are installed and also why intake valves of GDI injectors build up so much carbon) and that oil also affects the electrical MAF sensors that are meant to be clean and dry. note: on OLD range rovers with a Bosch MAF I recall they cautioned spraying deeply into the sensor -- curious about others comments on the inside spraying. Here is another one: if you have over 40K miles - replace your ERG valve (some can be rebuilt with a new membrane and spring for cheap)- it will be a boost like this cleaning. I was smoking off the tires after replacing my ERG that was torn up.
