Yeah me and Ryan’s version of practice is join the race session 5 minutes before and race each other as hard as possible so we don’t even get a lap in then use quali as our practice
The flow is not only known to sim racers. the flow is a state of mind used by pretty much all pro players in any game. its a state of mind where u are in hyper concentration only perceiving information from the specific activity you are doing pretty much unable to realise whats going on outside your activity alowing you to gain more informations on whats happening, reacting faster on situations happening and beeing more consistent overall. the challenge comes when getting into that state of mind. for most good players that happens pretty much automatically when they start a game if its intentional idk. but thats pretty much the difference between average and good.
Consistency is ALWAYS the most important pro driver ingredient. Once you master it at slower speeds its just about creeping it up inch by inch to the very edge. Most gaff it off, because to build it makes you go slower, initially, and requires lots of patience to push it forward. Trying to bring in consistency later, after getting fast with some bad habits, makes it far more difficult and always yields less results. This is a good vid on a very important topic that separates drivers from "Pro" and everyone else.
You hit the nail on the head... Everytime I get in the flow I check the world records and I'm close to the top. It happens about once a month and the more I try to force it to come the slower I go. I notice it comes more when I'm in a good mood and enjoying sim racing and life. Do you know of any videos or have pointers that can help with recreating it? I already practice 4 to 5 hours a day
so great tips from you i am still in my first year and i remember in the start i was so bad but now i can get some good racing but still not so great getting in to top places but have got a few top 3 and that such a great feeling
@@BeauAlbert yes i keep going strong enjoy the racing so much and have allso joined a racing club and race with them about 3-4 times a week and they are allso very helpfull
One race i was SO consistent, i kept lapping for 8 years and didn't even REALISE. I had truly MASTERED this here consistency, i was ASTONISHED, i had to ask my mum if i had physically aged without realising how long i had been lapping within HALF a tenth around the nordschleife. My one trick? Laps. 200 laps of the Nordschleife every 2 hours.

Another excellent video. Can’t believe it’s only had 2.5k views. I’ll certainly be sharing it. I watch a lot of videos depending on what I’m interested in at the time but virtually never leave comments. I’ve written you two in the last few minutes. Very impressed with your work and your thinking!
I think the best I've done in lap stints is a grx car on brands hatch. It was a short track but I did like 100 laps. I was able to qualify and race. But maybe I need to go with what the other guy said from the other video and try to do different stints in different cars. Like get a feel and be able to adjust to every car I can drive.
Back when I played GT5, I did about 300 laps over a course of weekend trying to get a special livery car. I got it, eventually, and I'm pretty decent around the Nurb...
How I’ve made decent progress w/ consistency & driving close to other cars is doing ~20 min races against AI in sims that have largish fields & close racing. The best w/ this of games I have is PC1 & PC2. My goal is top 3 & possible win and really try to not crash/ run off track (98% of the time my fault). I’ve considered getting iRacing mainly Bk it would force me more to drive w/in my limits Bk of damage & my SR (but too $$$). The worst at this on console is AC (I hear it’s way diff on a PC), & GT-S. For me it kills the fun & I don’t notice the consequences as much w/o large fields & close races where a mistake can mean getting passed by 3+ cars. Cold tires seem not effected or only in practice, not races in all the sims I have. I have a prob w/ consistency & not driving too aggressively. I blame playing too many games where there aren’t harsh penalties for bumping into others or walls. This is where I think iRacing has a decent model. Car contact is more likely to cause U to loose control, effects damage & your SR.
Very interesting to hear your thoughts mate! Never really thought of Console Games which (some) have nearly no consequence for error, which makes the transition to PC a little more difficult.
I'm consistently shit and even getting worse. I can't believe the slump I'm in right now. I was never that fast but at least I was consistent, now I'm even slower than before and my laptimes are all over the place :(
Same. Had the worst daily race in GT Sport yesterday. Honestly, a blind paraplegic chimp would've driven better. What I need is a methodology for improving. I know about trail braking etc and I can do it but I'm making basic errors all the time. Back to the drawing board.
10 laps per run on a setup? But Beau, RX laps take 35-40 seconds, that’s way too long 🤣 I definitely agree with you on it in theory but you know I love the 1 lap run.
I can easily do laps consistently separated by a mere 20-40 seconds per lap.
Same, just throw in a few uses of the escape button in there

10 lap stints around Nordschleife endurance is +/- 85 minutes and 1.5-2 sets of tires.

I consider myself to be kinda fast like 1-2 seconds off world record pace but I over a race I always mess up like very 10-15 laps without fail
