I’ve been watching these devlogs from the begging and never thought the game would make it this far and it’s amazing to see. I would seriously consider finding a publisher to allow you to go full time. The game has a huge audience, is unique, has a big social media presence, has collaborations with industry veterans, and is in line with the current trend of increasing demand for 3D platformers. You shouldn’t have any trouble landing a publisher.
B-side levels are cool and I think 100% a level to unlock the B-side is good. Shows that you have mastery of the normal level and is ready to take on the added challenge of the B-side. Also super cool that Grant Kirkhope is making some music for the game!
I think the 5 - 10 hour goal for gameplay feels about right for this game. Congrats on the music! A games soundtrack can make all the difference. Definitely excited to see this one continuing to progress!
B-Side levels, great idea but needs to be available as soon as you complete the level so you aren't forcing players to backtrack. Being able to 100% an area before continuing on is a lot more satisfying than having to get 80%, then leave because something is locked for whatever reason, then backtrack back to do it all over again. (This is some exception here if you add something interesting for the backtrack that don't have you just replaying the same content a second time)
Great update!!! Easily one of my most anticipated games B-side is defintely something id be interested in! Rewards those who explore, and adds a layer of replayability
HELL YEAH BSIDEEEEEEE!!! ALSO THANK YOU FOR SIKING ME, LETS GO!!! LOVED THE ENERGY IN THE END! I dont know why im typing in caps, im just very excited haha, also I was super happy when I saw that you were featured on OTK! Well deserved!
For the stop motion, if you have a full working function already without any bugs or issue, you should make it an option in the settings for people to enable or disable it. When you start the game have it play normal version but let people who enjoy that style play entire game with it
Glad to see you back man, and appreciate the dev-log update! And of course the music updates are huuuuuge, and excited to see and hear more about the game!
Hey man, don't feel bad about the delays of updates. Games take time and yours is very special. We will be there when it comes out. I have similar stresses about how long our game is taking to make, but every time we show our fans new updates they're incredibly supportive. As far as B-sides go, I'd be happy without difficult levels. I never imagined PaperKlay as a Celeste or Mario in the sense that there needs to be hard content. I care more about seeing cool places, finding secrets, and learning about the characters. Keep in mind I'm making a non-violent, deathless platformer that focuses on exploration more than difficulty, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. And congrats on Grant Kirkhope! How exciting!!! What a dream come true!
Been following the development of this game for a while (although it's been a while so hopefully I don't get any details wrong). I love the style and the gameplay, but I do have one piece of feedback that I hope you consider or have been considering: I feel like the game needs a story that can be relatable to people. Gameplay/platforming may not be enough if that's the only reason people are playing the game. I think there are a lot of chicken themed stories that could work well. Personally, this game feels like it's going to be a personal adventure, where I'm completing some mission that's tied so some overarching theme. The book level that feels very eerie is a perfect example of a level that could be themed as a flashback or vision of the future for the main character. The story doesn't necessarily have to be something cliche, but just something. Love the devlogs though, keep up the good work!
Good decision not to put stop-motion on the main character. I think it would be way too distracting, but it looks great on other parts of the level. Still blown away that you got Grant Kirkhope!
As someone who'd like to make a Claymation inspired 3D platformer, I was also thinking about doing stop motion animations for the amin character and some parts of the surroundings. I see that you decided not to do that, but do you think it would be possible to achieve the look in some way without giving people motion sickness? Also, is it Arlo voicing the sock puppet? I could've sworn that's who it sounded like in the last devlog.
I finally played your demo a few days ago! The game is fun, though the character speed felt a bit slow (pretty late in the development to change that though). Keep up the good work!
Thanks for playing it! Haha it might be hard to believe but I increased the speed of the character a while back. But I guess you can't please everyone. But if a sequel comes then I'll make it SUPER FAST :D
Brilliant devlog. I can see where you're going with stop motion but perhaps it just doesn't work with games 🤷♂ Also B sides can be fun to play through. I think it depends on the difficulty of the A side. For example I'm not doing the Celeste B sides, but Mario Odyssey is mostly about completing the B sides. Where does paper clay sit in that spectrum?
the level visuals have really improved over the course of your devlogs im loving how the game is progressing and it looks quite fun imo i was never a fan of the main characters design i dont think hes visually appealing beedy lifeless eyes basic proportions and spacing doesnt have a unique look i would expect from a game like this ive watched all devlogs and i still dont know why hes a chicken or how that contributes to his moveset/ personality

Oh yeah, it's wild that he is a part of the game!

The stop motion looked so good!!😮
This is very inspiring for my own project. PaperKlay is looking great. Keep going buddy, you’re almost there.

Having a harder level that encompasses everything you learned from a single-world while also being harder than the last level would be really cool

The YT algorithm strikes gold again. PaperKlay is looking absolutely wonderful - definitely adding to my wishlist!
Yes definitely make B-side would be a good feature!

Thanks friend! Yeah it's a really big thing! :D
I like the idea of you having some kind of unlock system in your game. I love having something to earn in games.
There is actually a small unlock system in the game. Some moves and values changing! :)
You go king!

I see Kevlog, I like video.
Kul att du är tillbaka
Man, I wish you were able to spend the time you wanted to spend on the game. It's looking really good.
haha thank you! As of right now, I think I'm having a good balance with it all. But of course, could always work more haha!
omg yay you are back I have been watching your videos for a while now cant wait to play your game
Haha yeah, life.. :D Thanks for watching the videos! Really motivating!
Amazing devlog!
game looks amazing
Hell yeah of the highest order
YEAH!
Please include the stop motion animations as an option in the settings! Also B sides are a great idea and make the game more fun for skillful players

Love the song :)

My man 🤙🏼🎉
Do ground pound pause ONLY when bouncing at something reactive, like a ground button. Otherwise let the bounce just be bouncy, like a boink boink.
i need to start having more bbqs
100% on board!
I couldn't follow exactly. So you are keeping the stop-motion on the main character or keeping the smoother motion?
Brilliant devlog. I can see where you're going with stop motion but perhaps it just doesn't work with games 🤷♂

I would love if you allowed "Cheats" to unlock the B-Side levels just like Celeste did it. I like playing them but I hate unlocking them :0
