I know this video is old, but when I considering learning something new I watch many videos. I'm a poor starving disabled musician and have had to teach myself quite a bit about electronics over the years, to fix my vintage music gear, my car stereo and home AV equipment. You're right most people doing these auto DIY videos are teaching people how to mess their stuff up. I'm not quite as picky as you lol, but I really appreciate a picky guy who has an eye for detail.. We need many more of you out here. :) So working on my own electronics I obviously know how to correctly solder and even safely do it in my car. However I kinda worry a lil about you not disconnecting the battery as I've always been told to do, so when I attempt this myself the battery will be disconnected. But hey you're the pro, so I'm sure you know just what you're doing. Okay to my long winded question (and I'm sorry I wrote a book before getting to my point) It's regarding my beloved 1995 Honda del Sol. I know she's old, but she's so faithful and gets almost mpg with even a trunk that I can hide 50 dead bodies, but only seats two lol.But for real, I don't have power door locks, just power windows, a 5 speed stick and the obd1 system. I'm mainly wanting to protect my car from theft and becoming some racers kid's parts doner car, and then there's my cherished vintage Alpine stereo. So what would you recommend I do to secure a car like mine on a budget, but not being a total cheapskate? I've been told by every guy I know that honda door locks are the easiest to pick, so I love the motion sensor thingy and disabling things like starters and fuel pumps. I think the more things I can disable the less likely they will figure it out. And I also think having blinking LEDs in the car help scare away many... lets say less talented thieves!? I also very much like what you said about putting the alarm module up high in the dash, that sounds very wise. Thank you for reading my long winded mess and I look forward to watching the rest of this great video you posted for us :) Oh and do you still sell car alarms?? Thank you very much :)
Thanks for proving free info on alarm and car electronics. I don't know who would give you a thumbs down. I will be ordering an alarm soon on your website. I still have to decide which brand to go with. Thanks again
Thats called a power probe, Mac and snap on sells them. Its a test light with led's and has the capability of throwing + or - voltage with the button as well, Its a nice tool to have around.
also u missed to tell noobs they have to take all the trim off.. which sometimes can be the hardest part.. great video.. I have done electronicstilnd alarms for years but as complete video like this is awsome... Ur my new best friend. I have low budget (Ssi) but still have a heart for electronics and when I can I enjoy stuff like this. Also must note when extending wires use the correct guage or larger :)
Great video. I have an 08 sequoia im trying to install my (cardot all in one remote start kit) only thing i wish you did differently is shown up close the harness locations to make this a bit easier for DIYer. Thats the only thing slowing me down right now figuring out what harnesses to tap into.
No way, that model was out 6 years before this model, They have similarities, But definetly not the same as far as color and locations are concerned. You should always adapt specifically to the exact model you're working with. Like the carpenter says... measure twice, cut once.
Typically the orange is a starter kill or ground when running connection, so if youre using a relay for starter kill or anti grind, you'd use it for those functions. as for channel 2 and 3, those are optional - outputs to do things like trunk pop or optional window modules. Most times they're not used.
Regarding the accessory, You nly need to power the one in the car that cuts on the heat and A/C As for the extra ignition, Just cap it off (or if you wanna - you can use that to power the 2nd accessory)
Hey lessco luv ur work my question to you is where did you get the test light I use a multi-meter but the test light looks easier to use and one more question I have a Chrysler 300 SRT 8 but I can't find the cheat sheet how do I get it
Will most of my wires be used for an 85 Isuzu Pick up??? I like your video and I have learned a lot. For my truck I really don’t have a lot of the extra things like the newer cars have. Remote starter, door lock/unlock, parking lights.
As a fellow installer, the only thing that I would suggest is to not ground your siren in the engine bay. I run the siren ground with the siren power and ground it at the driver kickpanel along with the other grounds that were needed for the install.
de-soldering isn't hard. I have to do it all the time. You can simply reflow the solder and pull the connectors apart, or use de-soldering wick, or a de-soldering iron. And if you have a temperature controlled soldering iron with a properly tinned tip, making a solder connection takes less than a second. I am qualified to speak on this because I've personally designed and hand soldered PCB's with nearly 100 SMD components (surface mount, not Steve Meade). "if you ever take the system out and put it in your next car" you're gonna have trouble with all the wires you snipped off because you didn't need them for this install. Do you ever take out ignition or starter relays? You cranked the starter 9 times, just in this video, to figure out what the wires go to. That can't be good for the engine. I sure wouldn't want someone doing that to my vehicle. Other than that, great video, much better work than any shop I've seen. Thank you for taking the time to make and post these videos!
question for you, I see your cutting a hole in the car wiring and pulling and twisting the alarm wiring through, could you just as well use T-Taps or T-Connectors as well? thanks in advance
the 6 heavy gauge cables are the remote start outputs that power the ignition harness. watch my remote start wiring detail vid, I go over the same model with the avital name instead, Its made for people just like yourself
your last reply to my question RE;blower motor does not go on/ radio does. sez i grabbed the wrong wire but when I swtched to the orange wire rhe remote wouldn't work at all. kind of defeats the purpose of having a remote start. 1998 astro omega rs-7k2 starter THANKS AGAIN, SKIP M.
Also a suggestion to anyone wanting to attempt an install themselves. Be sure that you understand your vehicle perfectly before you begin. Nearly 100% of being able to install an alarm and remote start is making the correct decisions that relate to YOUR vehicle. Anyone can connect a red wire to a green wire, that doesn't mean you're an installer. Knowing to connect the red wire to a green wire makes all the difference. Ask for help if things don't make sense!
Tesa tape and wirelooms would be another great thing when installing a security system. it makes the thief think twice on which one is the wire and not. It all looks like it was from the factory. Yes i know people that are thieves and know what they are doing. but sometimes are sloppy. but yes Tesa tape and Wire looms.
@7:15 when you say "its weird to see two starter wires on a Toyota" did you mean to say "ignition wires"? I'm trying to understand what this "ignition switch isolation" wire is for on my Viper 5706. So just before that, you were talking about wiring in a relay but that you were going to just put those wires together. Am I right in assuming that that relay is built in to my Viper? Is that what they are calling the "Flex Relay"?
Hello, I purchased a nu3500 system from you and I have a question. I'm installing it on a 2007 is250 and according to the wiring for the car, it shows a starter 2 and ignition 2 but the alarm only has one input. Do these wires have to be connected? Thanks! George
hey....im installing a readyremote keyless entry and remote start. I am in no way a professional installer, so I was wondering if you could happen to know what is "activation input" on the main harness suppose to tie in with on my 2003 Chevy Tahoe?
Im putting an alarm in an 06 chevy van that does not have keyless power locks. What do i need relays for in a vehicle no previous keyless/alarm system? Lock, unlock i know but do i need relays for start, ignition, horn or is that done in the unit?
im confused....in the last video you said you hated electrical tape, and in this video you are using just that? im not a hater at all, i even just subscribed, just curious thats all...btw, its nice to see some one who really know the service inside and out!
hello your videos so far have been very helpful. I am installing a remote start in a 2007 jeep wrangler. It has a single wire that is both the starter and acc according to the wiring guide I found. Is it OK to wire the remote start system starter and acc to single car wire?
I RECENTLY INSTALLED AN OMEGA RS-7K2 STARTER IN MY '98 ASTRO AND ALL WORKS WELL EXCEPT THE BLOWER MOTOR DOES NOT GO ON UNTIL THE KEY IS TURNED ON. ANY IDEAS?
wow never mind you put the 2 start wires togeather omg there is a reason their are 2 where do you work so i can tell everyone to stay clear you just made that truck easier to steal.... lol
I bought a used HUMMER H2 I noticed a sticker under the hood DEI remote start system and also an antenna in the corner of the window. how do i find out which kind and model is installed so i can order a remote for it, the previous owner was kind enough not to include it.
You helped me in the past and Im now going to order 2 Exc alarm/rs. Is the ebay ID mart***** yours? It does say thelessco. Also do you sell an Android type smart start i can use with these systems? Thanks
I have a 2005 buick lacrosse and the wiring for the vehicle says I only have one ignition wire......what do I connect the 2nd ignition from the remote starter to?
To get the colors, location and pictures go to bulldogsecurity . com and on the top left there is a link to wiring info, take a look, Im sure it'll be very helpful to you. happy holidays
Lessco. Hi there! I was given a Viper Alarm 5906v for my Birthday. I keep calling around for installation on the Alarm and the price Is what it is! But the say right away I need a Module for the Remote Start. And Its an additional obscene amount what they want to charge me! For the Remote Start. I thought the 5906v came with the Remote Start. They don't even ask me what car I have! Its going into a 09 bmw 335i.. Do I need this additional Module?
I purchase a excalibur al-1950-edpd and a omegalink blade al-64 that was progam to my car that is a 2008 Honda accord my question is do I still have to install all the bypass wires that come with the blade al-64 ???
I've got three large gauge fused wires and one medium sized one that all need to get 12v constant. What is the best way to tie them in to my 12v constant wire? Should I splice them all in at the same place? Or splice in a couple of places along that wire?
Do you strip a small section of the wire being spliced into, then poke a hole through the exposed section; or just poke a hole through it insulation and all? Also, what's the name of the curved tool you use to make the holes in the wires? Thanks!
thanks for your video. I have suggestion for your videos.I believe if you had shown us the page by page on screen both the car wiring and alarm wiring diagram or at least give us a link to follow you in the right way otherwise we have no clue what wire you are cutting which is very important to know and learn.I hope this help in learning for so many that watch your videos
Hey got a question.. I'm install this alarm my kid gave me . It's a omega echo with blade. My question on a 2002 sonata is there a bypass I need to purchase?? Thanks Lessco
Thanks. I am on the edge of installing a Viper 5704 in a 2012 Camry. Any pointers or advise? First time installer. I'm tempted to just pay the $125 install charge.
shouldn't the starter kill relay be connected during this whole step? or, if it was done off video, which starter wire was interrupted? starter 1 or starter 2? or both?
Hi, can I add a a remote start to my 95 mustang with a viper 352 two way? If so which do you recommend? Would I need a separate remote? Thx for your help!
hey I have a 2006 hummer h3 and my truck has only 1 ignition wire at the ignition harness and my remote start has ignition 1 and ignition 2 ......I also can't find the starter wire at the ignition harness for my vehicle could you help me out and tell me what wire it is?
+Lessco Electronics that's the wiring info page that I am using already....it says that there isn't no starter wire and that it only has 1 ignition wire.....could I just put both ignition 1 and 2 from the remote start to ignition 1 from the vehicle
Hey I know it's been a while, but I had a question about the way you did the two starter wires together...I believe I heard you say that one was for "cold start," correct? And most people don't connect that one...Now, if you don't connect one or the other is it possible to get misfires, or problems? You said connecting both together won't damage the vehicle, but what about NOT connecting one, or the other...
The 2nd cold start wire is there for a reason, So I personally always do it, But in cases where the user is in a warm climate year round, that cold start wire would never be necessary.
How to you feel about T Taps and other clips that tap into a wire? I have seen a few professionals use them for installs like this. I am planning on doing a remote starter in my 1997 Ranger.
T-Taps are HORRIBLE and should not be used on a car or trucks ignition harness. If you use the incorrect size T-tap you will essentially reduce the overall guage of the wire and in most cases this can cause extensive damage to the ignition harness. By using solder or wrap and tape, like he did in this video you are keeping the integrity of the factory harness and also making it easily reversible if you need to do that. I cant stress it enough, T-Taps should NEVER be used, you will almost certainly see these being used at your local Car Audio shops if the installers are paid by commission.
I ended up splicing in and soldering for the ignition harness wires. I used T-Taps for all of the small wire connections though, they were nice and easy. Everything worked out well :).
Hello what is the brand of the probe you are using, I was sinking of buying the Circuit Buddy Circuit Tester Logic Probe Test Light CB-01, but it looks like yours would work better with out pinching wires almost like an amp probe.
My 08 Tundra's ignition cylinder 8 pin connector uses wires that are only 18 Gauge and the Viper Remote start wires are huge (like 10 gauge) Why the big difference?
You mention that your site offers free diagrams...hmmm, I went to your site found the link and it goes to a professional site that requires a login as an Omega dealer. Looking to follow your video and install a remote start into a 2010 Ridgeline. Can you help?
i'm having problems finding the right wire for the ignition. based on my diahgram i only have one wire coming form the main unit to the ignition so i'm really confused about it.
If you don't poke the wire through a hole and just wrap it around, de-soldering is a piece of cake. Also if you do it right, it doesn't fatten the connection at all, the solder flows between the strands. Not using solder causes loose connections later on, I've seen it happen.
My 2008 pilot will start when key is in the ignition or near by it. When I remove the key, pilot will crank but not start. What should do? Compustar CM7200
Hi my alarm has a .. ignition 1 input/ out put ..fused 12v ignition 1 input ...ignition 2 /flex relay output ...fused 12v ignition 2/ flex relay . Wich one do I conect to the ignition 1 and 2 ??
If you can't solder wires you shouldn't be installing a remote start in the first place. I would prefer not to mess around with loose connections in the future.
yes it has a factory alarm system its a vw Passat 2000 v6 I had it install once an everytime I try starting it the factory alarm keeps action up an making noise so do I have to connect both rearm and disarm wire to my factory alarm? how do I find these wire in my car? thanks for the reply I live in Minnesota and it really get cold here.
how to add 2 alarms with door lock actuators using 2 diodes I want to keep factory alarm with 4 door actuators. I want to add another alarm system in conjunction with old along with door actuators.
This guy is a professional and knows exactly what he is doing. awesome

Strip it back 1st, then poke the hole. And the tool I use is a craftsman cotter pin extractor, Known in the electronics field as a hook tool.
You're the only person I'd trust my truck to

great job on the "how to" guide.... very well explained

Hey lessco luv ur work my question to you is where did you get the test light I use a multi-meter but the test light looks easier to use and one more question I have a Chrysler 300 SRT 8 but I can't find the cheat sheet how do I get it
85 goes to orange - 86 should go to a cranking ignition, 87a goes to the starter side, 30 goes to the key side of the starter wire
You only use one or the other, Usually you use the + output / the - output is for cars with negative circuits or resistor based systems.
For a guy that dont like electrical tape he sure uses an awful lot of it in fact that's all I seen him use so far
Yes, but no so much when it comes to uninstalling time though...
Will most of my wires be used for an 85 Isuzu Pick up??? I like your video and I have learned a lot. For my truck I really don’t have a lot of the extra things like the newer cars have. Remote starter, door lock/unlock, parking lights.

hey I have a 2006 hummer h3 and my truck has only 1 ignition wire at the ignition harness and my remote start has ignition 1 and ignition 2 ......I also can't find the starter wire at the ignition harness for my vehicle could you help me out and tell me what wire it is?
hotyricky use the free wire info at bulldogsecurity.com, its pretty good. hit the wiring info link on the left side of the web page
Do not use t taps ever. Junk. Take the time to do it properly. I've diagnosed several remote start issues installed at Best buy caused by t taps.
Just noticed that you did ground it inside. ignore the previous comment!
Hello what is the brand of the probe you are using, I was sinking of buying the Circuit Buddy Circuit Tester Logic Probe Test Light CB-01, but it looks like yours would work better with out pinching wires almost like an amp probe.
that's a matco power probe
This alarm has built in relays, theyre not external
what mark of tools are your using ? By the why greate tutorial, Thank you!
My 08 Tundra's ignition cylinder 8 pin connector uses wires that are only 18 Gauge and the Viper Remote start wires are huge (like 10 gauge) Why the big difference?
If I'm using a dball2 module I don't need all them wires... Right?
Hi there good videos.
I have a question im installing an remote starter with keyless entry to my 06 H3 how can i test a type B doorlock system?
You mention that your site offers free diagrams...hmmm, I went to your site found the link and it goes to a professional site that requires a login as an Omega dealer. Looking to follow your video and install a remote start into a 2010 Ridgeline. Can you help?
What kind of tape is that? It looks like electrical tape, but when he rips it, it sounds like gaffer tape... Please help. Thank you.
Just wish you showed how to strip the insulation for the taps.
i'm having problems finding the right wire for the ignition. based on my diahgram i only have one wire coming form the main unit to the ignition so i'm really confused about it.
Wrapping wires as you show, is totally unacceptable in the trade.
If you don't poke the wire through a hole and just wrap it around, de-soldering is a piece of cake. Also if you do it right, it doesn't fatten the connection at all, the solder flows between the strands. Not using solder causes loose connections later on, I've seen it happen.
Part 3 and 4 I combined into one video.
What is the thing you use to test the wires?
Just insulate it, You wont need it.
sure, its just not as easy. thats all
when you use the cotter pin extractor are you just poking a hole all the way threw or what ?
My 2008 pilot will start when key is in the ignition or near by it. When I remove the key, pilot will crank but not start. What should do? Compustar CM7200

I have a question, every time I tap into the tach wire my alt stops charging my battery ? Any suggestions car 2005 Nissan 350z
What brand of tester are you using for your wires?
I used an excalibur alarm, the bypass waas a fortin keyoverrideall
If you can't solder wires you shouldn't be installing a remote start in the first place. I would prefer not to mess around with loose connections in the future.
i have a viper model 4103XV can u explain what is the (-) 200mA factory alarm rearm and disarm?
that is used in a case where you want the aftermarket to arm and disarm the factory alarm system (if the vehicle is so equipped)
