- Welcome to Week #2 of Fire Academy for Unified Fire Authority's Recruit Class #54. This week we focused on basics once again. The recruits had lessons on building construction, hose deployments, leadership, and for the first time- they entered into a real fire environment. Stay tuned as Public Information Officer Ryan Love documents their every move, bringing you video updates for the next 15 weeks.
All recruits and cadre have continued with their weekly rapid COVID tests - all negative. We will maintain a COVID-aware campus through frequent testing, daily screening, and vaccination efforts.#UNIFIED54

The UFA is a full-service fire agency, providing fire suppression, advanced life support, first response and transport, rescue, hazardous materials, bomb response, fire investigation, code enforcement, hazardous materials inspections, and Emergency Management for all of Salt Lake County. UFA is the sponsoring agency of Utah Task Force 1, one of 28 FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Teams in the nation, provides Fire Management services for Camp Williams and emergency response for the Utah Data Center.
UFA operates as an independent fire authority under the direction of the UFA Board of Directors. Each of the municipalities appoints one elected official from their municipality to serve on the UFA Board of Directors, with the exception of Salt Lake County who can appoint two elected officials.

Love this series of videos. I still remember my class 10 years ago.
Love the channel and videos, particularly the weekly training ones! It really helps give friends and family members, who are rooting for their loved ones, a sense of what exactly the recruits are going through when they’re too exhausted to share details. Also, as someone who isn’t familiar with this “fire world,” it’s been eye opening to learn how rigorous and intense the training is that firefighters have to go through. Thank you for the thoughtful, well-edited videos, and love the music, which are all on-point. Sending our best to Class 54 and all of UFA!

I feel like these guys are a lot nicer than some other academy’s trainers, just based off of stories I’ve heard. I feel like it would be easier to learn with this teaching method, as opposed to someone yelling in your face, but I can’t say as I haven’t experienced it yet. I just got hired by my home County’s department, I’m super nervous to start the academy 😅. Good luck to anyone trying to get into this profession
