    Some of these exercises remind me of my training as a US Navy diver. There were a lot of occasions where I had to work in low or zero visibility.

    the funding at this academy is insane. my academy in texas had enough money to get us a helmet, half of an scba, we got to look at pictures of an axe, and we have only heard stories of hoods. hahaha joking btw

    I am a military firefighter from Brazil, Brasilia, the training carried out is identical to ours, the only exception and the time, was 12 months of course, it seems that in humid states it is 5 weeks, but ours involved a lot of physical interaction.
    I am impressed with the military education, I thought I was not militarized.

Really messes with your head when you cant use a light.

    • @youngforeverlastingyfl1832
      @youngforeverlastingyfl1832 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Quick question so I'm wildland firefighter thinking about becoming structural. I have ADHD so I worry alot but the question is do the fire academy teaches you the basic of how to swim? or do they expect you to already know how?

    • @TheMrASSTASTIC
      @TheMrASSTASTIC 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@youngforeverlastingyfl1832 depends on the Academy and where your department that you will work for is located and what certs they want you to have. Depends on the environment you live in. Ex: If you have a lot of lakes/rivers where you live or a lake by your station. They may want you to get your swift water rescue or diving certs. We haven't touched on that in my Academy.

    • @TheMrASSTASTIC
      @TheMrASSTASTIC 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@youngforeverlastingyfl1832 The Academy I'm going through gets you your Fire 1 and 2, HAZMAT awareness and operations certs. As well FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700 certs. I have my EMT but most departments around my surrounding counties won't look at you without your AEMT. A prerequisite for my Academy was a general knowledge test in reading, comprehension, math and English, first aid cert and CPR cert. The rest is up to us regarding commitment, drive and courage. I saw a lot of men turn to screaming school girls in confined space training. The CPAT and a few other assignments like pre incident surveys, fire prevention class that you teach, projects, prevention survey, and a UFRA loss report need to be done. If you have commitment, which as a bush stomper you defiantly should have. It'll be a cake walk for you. Structure and wildland are needed all over. A transition for you should be relatively easy bro.

Just curious as to what you need to become a firefighter, and if it’s possible for me in the future. (I am an American citizen and physically fit). Da Golden Chiken every department is different with their requirements but a lot of departments require EMT-B and fire fighter 1/2. If you can volunteer for a department they’ll typically reimburse you after a certain amount of time volunteering so you can get those certs. Some departments have resident programs and they’ll pay and put you through all the classes you need. Hope this helped

      In Massachusetts I had to get my emt-b and then I applied to my local fire department. They are currently sponsoring me through the fire Academy so I dont pay for it. When I complete the course I will be on call with this fire department. My advice is to go to your local fire department and ask to speak with the chief or depty chief and they will tell you exactly what you have to do. Generally firefighters are really friendly and helpful people so dont be shy. Hope this helps and good luck.

Of course if you are over weight and cannot pass the agility tests then that applies. 18 years of age to test, not sure what they hire at but most likely 18.

    I was a volunteer at a pretty small station before I moved to Colorado, I was wondering what the process was to be a wildland firefighter (mostly if I'd have to go through an academy like this one)

      Thank you for your reply, is Firefighter 1 certification required for all departments or agencies in Colorado? (Moved here less than a month ago so I'm pretty confused lol) @@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO

      Yes, at South Metro our Firefighters must be proficient in surface ice and water rescues. SMFR also has a more specialized team of personnel who are qualified to perform dive and swift water rescues.

    If you watch closely during pool pt, the chubby female doesn't do any push ups correctly and she doesnt do her planks correctly. I'm all for woman being fire fighters, but they should be held to the same standard as men. A 250 pound victim on the 4th floor isn't going to miraculously lose weight because a weak female can't pull them out of a building.

      Your so right!!
      People say the females don’t have the same muscle as men so they get to do less, but when your in a burning building you can’t just do less while on work. They need the same standards as men.

      As a woman who is going down this career path, I agree with you but also- women hold more strength in their legs and lower body where men usually lack. Men are naturally stronger in their upper body and that is where women usually lack. It is possible to use lower body strength to carry a 250lb victim, wouldn’t you say? Regardless, I am still working on my upper body strength to prepare myself for academy and don’t want any special treatment as a female- no female should.

      In the Army, the APFT had different standards for males and females. 43 pushups is the minimum for males, and I think it was like 13 for females. Its been a while since I last looked but females were held to a much different standards. Females who want to be in a combat MOS should be held to the same standards as males. Just my opinion and I don't see a problem with a female being in the Infantry but they need to be right up there with us.

      @@Alxrandomedia I would have to disagree with your women being stronger in the lower body than men. I just don't think that is at all true.

    Is this one of the first times they’re getting their hands on this stuff? I know In my program when we’re getting our degrees we do all this and more before we even get to the academy. It’s interesting to see how different it is from Wisconsin.
