It’s also the fact they ABSOLUTELY had to give Megan Fox the character of NITARA which compared to Ronda Rousey’s awful performance of Sonya won’t be as bad talked about in a couple of years (already is being praised as better than Megan Fox’s Nitara) since Sonya is a legacy character and comes back every game/every 2 games whereas Nitara wasn’t seen since Armageddon (17 years ago) and is from the so called “shitty” era of MK (i love the 3D era) meaning Megan Fox’s terrible performance will ruin Nitara forever and we’ll probably see her in 2 more decades after Mk1 is over as she’s not a legacy character and NRS are the kind of company to blame the fans for embarrassing them online for a decision of hiring a mid actress they willingly thought was good at the job of voice acting after seeing the backlash of Ronda Rousey 4 years prior and still not getting the hint that nobody wants non voice actors to voice fan favorite characters from their own series
One huge one that you missed, is that Geras can turn into sand...and control time... He is "defeated" by getting trapped in chains and dropped into the sea....but....he can turn into SAND AND CONTROL TIME...
I mean the sand point is irrelevant when sinking into a blood sea (which he could’ve escaped by turning into sand) but why he didn’t rip his arm/head off and throw it somewhere so that he could reconstruct himself on the ship or just…stop time before the chains hit him I will never know
I just released I invalidated my own comment by pointing out that he could’ve just turned into sand and escaped before falling, even my own relatively pointless conjecture is nullified by the fact that he can turn into SAND AND CONTROL TIME!
They just shat on almost everything they could have done right, such as different default skins for some characters who have awful ones who dont resemble they past selves at all,Noob killing Hanzo instead of bug thot,A different voice and less edgy shit for Noob, blood colors, Anyway,as grandmaster blueberry ice said: _Such wasted potential_
@@vcsa681 what’s even more fucked was that dark raiden was also one of the people who was justified in killing Scorpion. Literally, hanzo literally decided to not listen to raiden when killing bi-han, chooses to serve Quan chi despite having free will, mkx took it overboard with him releasing Shinnok from his amulet bcoz he wanted revenge and left all the revenants to stay revenants considering all of them were good guys, raiden nearly fucking died. He was pretty much justified after mkx happened to kill hanzo. If they couldn’t get noob to kill hanzo then get raiden to do it. It still keeps the character development while hanzo learned that his path of revenge really fucked him over. But no let’s give it to d’vorah… and aftermath made it completely worse
@@cactusmalone this is bad sentiment. i dont like mk11 as much as the average fanboy either but blaming Boon and putting some inexperienced dickhead in charge is not the solution to any of this. It’ll always be Ed’s game and he knows how to make sure mortal kombat keeps its identity through thick and thin. giving Halo to 343 industries after bungie quit absolutely shitted away the series identity despite microsoft trying extremely hard to ensure the team was literally designed around maintaining its quality. Boon and NRS are relatively one of the most communicative devs in the industry when it comes to AAA games.
MK 11 is the worst kind of sequel. It takes everything set up in the previous entries and either ignores them, downplays them, removes them or retcons them. Nothing about this game feels like an actual story in universe. It's like a fanfiction brought to life, but even a fanfiction wouldn't be held back by the terrible character chapters so it might turn out slightly better.
You know the funny thing fans like you possibly suggest things like making mileena a main character would ruin the story . The worst things people can say about mk11 is story was bad And the gameplay is boring which is objective otherwise it's very well made it's just easy to hate on the outlier. I don't see people critical assessment of mk9 with player one have a literal frame advantage which is a core gameplay function .
@@Synical02 I have no idea what your rant is about. I don't care who the main character of the games story so long as you make a good story that follows up on the plotline. Not some time travel nonsensical mess with no set up and makes its own story irrelevant by the end.
@@PhillipOnTakos well that's kinda my point that the story was driven by fan service as well to the points like mileena was gonna be priority and mk9 has the same inconsistent time travel Bs. Raiden is an elder God capable of seeing potential futures or knowing of the past(showing he known scorpion, and kung Jin) yet his blind faith makes him hypocrite. He valued keeping the monks alive to keep a better future yet knowing what subzero would become because he seen that future he let his faith in the elder gods take over resulting in a worse fate. And the entire reason of me mentioning game mechanics is to show the fansbase hypocrisy in judging aspects of 11 yet ignoring those if 9. 9 had a way better story with way more logical moments and motifs But 9 had moments of questionable that goes uncontested and overlook another example ( cyber subzero was retrieved and his memory was returned to normal why not cryax he was forced? Another why does goro suddenly take sides? When he fought liu Kang he stated he had no particular side in the fight he's forced yet shown no resistance or try to go to earth realm with cyber sub and he has the opportunity to run away from shaokhan while guarding the cops I mean he's more powerful than kano and kintaro.
When something is the equivalent of Rise of Sky-Wanker in your trilogy, you clearly did something wrong (although at least mk11 hasn't "somehow quan chi returned" ffs)
Believe me mate, I think I amde a better Kingdom Hearts plot than Nomura. And dispite it's what commonly is a fanfiction (introducing two OC's, make them protagonists, introducing more video game franchises such as big like Capcom or Nintendo, or indie ones, and etc) it haves a better world with more life, characters that feels like rral people instead of machined programed to follow the plot curse, a more cohesive narrative and a well made moral conflicts. Everyone here has a more grey moral code, the scale can variate of course, but it's not "Light good, Darkness evil".
A 37 year old father of 3 who has been waiting for this to drop like I waited for MK2 on Genesis back in 5th grade. My wife doesn’t understand this behavior. 😂
You finally mentioned Scorpion being a spectre rather than a revenant. And the fact that he is called a revenant despite all his physical differences and even nature being different. Thank you.
It honestly still baffles me why they reboot the series again when they had two stories ready to be used for sequels. They could have first used the whole Dark Raiden bringing back the Mortal Kombat tournaments for MK11, actually giving the Dark Raiden concept some love while actually having a story that would justify villains being playful since Outworld would be the defenders this time (and you could capitalize on making Bo-Rai-Cho seem cool in MKX..) and then MK12 could have used the dropped Onaga storyline from the comics where the now fractured alliances must face a revived Onaga who is even stronger now that he has Goro as a host instead of Reptile so the situation is even more dire. Hell, for MK13, you could have the beginnings of Armageddon and introduce a revamped Taven and Daegon and it can end with Kronika finally being revealed trying to stop Armageddon as this will destroy all of creation which she doesn't want. With this set up, it would give her an actual goal and allow her to be morally grey because she isn't doing this out of the goodness of her heart, she wants to rule all of creation but she is protecting reality, and it can also give her an actual reason to hate Raiden, he is the cause of this because his actions as Dark Raiden weakened the realms and allowed Onaga to wreak havoc on what was left, leaving very little to prevent it than last time, you could even explain away the time powers by Kronika giving Raiden the knowledge beforehand which is why new Raiden doesn't use time powers after MK9 to fix a plot hole. Then, after 5 games from Netherrealm, where Armageddon occured once more, could you reboot it. 5 whole games to flesh out this new timeline, really give some changes while keeping enough the same to show that despite their best efforts, Armageddon is seemingly inevitable for a bit of a darker story and Kronika could actually have motives and not be a plot device. Instead we get a reboot, one sequel to explore this new universe...and another reboot to erase it and start again. I get that MK and DC are owned by Warnerbrothers and I understand that MK's endings in MK vs DC had most of their characters become DC characters but...did they have to emulate the constant stupid reboots as well? How long until the next reboot? Assuming MK is still around long enough for more than one game, how long until the new writers get cold feet and restart it again lest they actually do something risky? Even ignoring the pointless retcons for characters, we have no reason to get invested in the story because much like comic books, which this story almost feels like a comic book plot (seriously, that final battle really gives me animated Justice League vibes..), constantly gets rebooted and retconned so whatever you fall in love with no longer matters. Even the people who like Twindel, you have no reason to be invested in her character because its gone now, and even if it returns, which would be kind of stupid since I am sure it got backlash, they will just alter her whenever they want or reboot the series again so whatever she does will not matter. All this work for the storymode and all it amounts to is throwing all their work in the fucking garbage. And what makes this even sadder...this is the same ending Sonic 06 had. Sonic and friends defeat a god like being who controls time, and reset everything so the events of the game you just fucking played didn't happen, meaning all that character development and interactions never happened...this writer is on par with SONIC 06, one of the most loathed and mocked games of all time. I really don't know what they could even do in MK12 because no matter what avenue they pick...I don't see how they won't just retread shit. Either they will retread the older games again, or they will retread the newer games which would make the reboot pointless because you're just following the plots you wiped away. Unless MK12 will take place far in the past with The Great Kung-Lao as the main character with a more fresh batch of Earthrealm characters since Sonya, Jax, Johnny, etc won't be born yet, it will just be the same shit again, only more poorly written. Maybe with my ideas this would still be the same, even if we got to MK14 before another reboot I still don't see what you could do but at the very least you did more story telling before throwing it away. Either they retread existing games, AGAIN, or they try their hand at an entirely new setting by setting it in the past of MK which I have no faith in, either option likely won't work for them so they shot themselves in the foot with rebooting things again.
To answer your question it’s because Ed Boon wants to Scorpion to always remain alive, and if he’s killed off in the story then he has to reboot the series each time because he’s against his most favorite character dying in the franchise, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s one of the many many reasons on why John Tobias quit working for Midway Studios/WB Studios altogether.
I think that NRS does have the capacity to make decent story points and certain decisions, which even a game like MK11 has, as mentioned in this video. A bigger question is that if the hooks of WB Games's micromanaging or the weight of the fans will have some sort of influence in MK going forward. Netherrealm has the ability to do better things and improve themselves, but it needs a push to truly move forward. A way to truly say that we want something new and different such as a prequel (which seems where the next game is going) but not something that's poor like the 2021 movie. Ironically, the movie made me appreciate the NRS trilogy more.
This. All of this, is why MK11 (The Ultimate Edition/Preorder) is probably my most regrettable game purchase to date. They had so much to work with, and they threw it all away. Did I have fun playing MK11? Sure, for a time. Did MK11 have its moments? Sure it did, but this game pales in comparison to every other MK game in my opinion. It's sad because they truly have so much material to work with, yet they continue to screw up. Hopefully they can get the next game right, all I know is I won't be buying it.
I’m just so shook that there isn’t a single “Test your….” In this game but they gave us 2 upgraded classic stages😌 Really shows how they prioritised visuals over everything😂
They actually did disable Terminator's facial expressions for fatalities. He does not show fear when he performs his own motorcycle fatality on himself. Yep, you're right, they only show care to fighters when they purely relate to guest fighters.
Well... let's see. They stopped supporting a game in its prime that still needed fixes...they never talk to their community and don't test shit out before they add it to the game... missed opportunities is the NRS way
I genuinely didn't know that detail about Milenna's eyes Deception until now. Amazing how there's still stuff about the older games I've never known about but I feel like I've seen just about everything in 11. Did I say amazing, I meant depressing.
Man, I laughed so hard when Kronika summoned the Joker to protect her, LMAO! I bet he was her actual advisor and the true mastermind behind her plan! What a madman! This time he out-fucked-up even DC's reboots!
This is my headcanon now, thank you. Joker is the true hidden antagonist of the entire Mortal Kombat Netherrealm Trilogy (and, to think of that, both Injustices as well)
I vividly remember how pissed I was when Kabal and Stryker's story got no resolution, and how disappointed I was in Robocop mostly because I wanted Stryker to finally have some conclusion after being one of the best characters in MK9.
I really wish Stryker was the one introduced not Robocop since I would've thought the "10,10" call-in by the cop became hunted as a renewed Characterization over his importance with the Special Forces Ops. But alas, here we are.
You know what I find hilarious about Kronika? Throughout the entire game, we're never really told what her "New Era" actually is. Sure, she talks about it a lot, but she never goes into full detail over what it would be like should she actually succeed in her plan. All we know is that Raiden won't exist in it, and that's it. Okay, what about Shinnok? What about the Elder Gods? What about the One Being? What about the other Titans? Are they on board with this New Era? How is it going to work? Will Mortal Kombat Tournaments still be a thing? Is everyone going to have their lives improved in it? And besides Raiden, who gets to exist in this New Era and who doesn't? Honestly, why didn't they simply just make Onaga the main villain (or Dark Raiden, like they should've from the VERY BEGINNING) instead of creating a new one who's literally too dumb to live?
Because they’re in the woke phase, even in MKX they were, here it’s been amplified to the max. Don’t bother remembering anything you’ve witnessed in this game, it will be retconned in the next game when game companies stop sucking off Sjw’s, but there will be another phase, and trust when I say that mortal Kombat will follow it.
@@captainobvious7165 Honestly, couldn’t have said it better myself. It isn’t just MK that has this issue either. Such a shame that companies are catering towards the SJW whiners instead of the actual hardcore and loyal fans of their games.
Honestly why DIDN'T they do it? Either of these two would have been a much more substantial replacement compared to Kronika, The Titans or whatever the hell NetherRealm Studio pulls out from their ass when it comes to the story. Furthermore the utter garbage of an ending not only wastes the ENTIRE new timeline and all the potential it had but it also throws out characters like Onaga, Taven and Daegon out of the window and barely if EVER utilized in the second timeline because of how they are 3D characters and as such gets jack shit.
@@captainobvious7165 From a billion dollar franchise like this, I can sadly see that happening to every MK game in the future. Just like how Disney is ruining Marvel and Star Wars with their woke sjw bs...
2:28:39 Little nitpick of mine, why does Sonya know she wasn’t the one burning Kabal’s face? Meta-wise, Kano just wants Kabal on his side and said those lies, but Sonya says “don’t believe everything you hear” or something along those lines, as if she’s aware it wasn’t her, but Kintaro. But she’s past Sonya, at a point where MK9’s Earthrealm invasion wasn’t started already, it’s impossible for her to know that future event, so yeah, Sonya has some 4th wall plot reading powers.
Would've been better if they went the Scarlet Witch and Thanos route: Kabal: You took everything from me! Sonya: I don't even know you! Kabal: (spins blades) You will.
My best guest is that Kabal is undercover and actually working for the Police but even then that’s stretching and there’s no evidence to suggest that at all!
So. The problem with D'vorah it's not just that she kills fan favorito characters. The problem is her lack of charm as character, her forced introduction in the franchise, and how she kills memorable characters to always get away with her mischieves. Did I understand it right?
Put it simply: Yes. She kills characters with forced tension just to bring depth, instead there isn’t any. She lives longer because somehow the main cast and heroes don’t kill her early on, which is why she gets away with committing actions later
Idk she's just not a interesting character to me. I mean.. she's a Bug humanoid looking thing and her voice ugly. Really she's not too much better than kollector and I strongly feel that if she wasn't so important to the story she would've been a one and done character
The thing that bothers me the most about them saying that Sindel's death was 1,000 years ago instead of 10,000 is that Kitana would be a grown ass woman at that point. She would've spent roughly 9000 years of her life with Sindel around and only 1000 without her which makes one of the few good scenes in Aftermath, her being overjoyed to finally meet her mother after having no parental figure in her life but her abusive tyrannical stepfather, make absolutely no sense. But I guess its too much to ask that they remember how old one of the main characters is or how Edenian aging works...
@@nabilahmed579 Exactly. Its not even just an inconsistency, it would ruin Kitana's entire backstory. It's not a small detail that can be dismissed. Kitana is a little over 10,000 years old and that's pretty much the standard Edenian age of maturity as far as we've been shown; it's always been established that Sindel died when she was very very young. If she only died 1,000 years ago, either Kitana and the other Edenians are now only around 1,000 years old, or Kitana was fully grown when she died and had her mother around for the majority of her life, which would change everything about the character.
You know what else screws with the timeline? The idea that Kotal Kahn was supposedly her bodyguard when Sindel was alive. Why, you may ask? Because in the MKX comics, after the Oshtek realm was conquered by Shao Kahn, Kotal immediately went to Earthrealm and became the Mayan god of war, helping them fend off the Conquistadors. The Spanish first arrived in Mexico in 1519, so Kotal's rule would've started around that year. Meaning that Shao Kahn's conquest of Kotal's realm and his entry into the Emperor's service would've happened nearly *five hundred years ago* , long AFTER Sindel's death.
1000 years ago? That's way too short it's no longer ancient mythical history lost to time we were building castles and taxing peasants we were just about to have the first crusade while all of that was going on think about it human civilization and edenia existed at the same time longer than it didn't and yet we were never asked for help to stop any invasion
I think I need to clarify I'm speaking from the human time frame like we had 3000 years since first fertile crescent civilizations to alexander the great to caesar, then 1000 years anno domini where edennia was still a realm and then only 1000 where it no longer exists and earthrealm never got contacted once? No military aid, no trade? Nothing?
Honestly no one needs a 4 hour explanation as to why mk11 kinda sucks. This is too much but nice to see such a passionate person giving his time to such a useless cause.
@@annihilator5494 no it's not too much. It's a full, detailed thought out and heavily thorough explanation about the serious as a whole. Not just MK11 itself, you dense idiot.
Serious missed opportunity; make the Krypt actually have an ending, where Shang Tsung congratulates the wanderer on his in depth searching of the island and asks his name. The wanderer removes his mask and reveals that his name is Shujinko, being an alternate timeline version who has been searching for new techniques so he can take on Kronika. And then you unlock him as a playable fighter with a highly customizable moveset. But no, that wouldn't happen "becuz balanceeeee, durrrererrrr!!"
I hate how good this idea is, as it’s not real. Seriously bothers me how fan’s create better ideas/content (given their investment) as opposed to the ‘professional’ writers
This is a fucking genius idea. Especially since Shujinko being younger makes sense in the new timeline..and it could hint at a certain dragon we all know and love.
The character's wasted potential to bother me most is that of Erron Black. He's a cocky badass. He could've been the Dante of "Mortal Kombat". I'm fine with him being Kotal's loyal enforcer, but his arcade ending in MKX disappointed me. In this game's campaign, he's lost in the crowd. Making him a former Black Dragon pissed me off because it doesn't add to his character. They give him absolutely nothing to do. They could've done without him talking like a full-blown Texan. They could have done more with him, but they forgot him. Erron Black is a great character, but they made him shallow.
That's the problem making a fighting game that tries to have a good story and narrative, every fan wants their favorite character to have time to shine but in practice that's a challenging thing to do without making the campaign feel really bloated and seemingly endless...Too many cooks in the kitchen. That's why most fighters just have a fighter have their own story, told in a low budget slideshow...and that's all you get. Everyone has their own story but there's barely any investment or arcs. I think any fighting game that tries to do a story like MK will require to give some characters more attention than others, and once you get the necessary fan favorites their time, there's not too much room for new villains and characters that aren't central to the plot. Look at Tekken 7's campaign and you see the same thing happen, over 50% of the cast doesn't even show up.
@@Deadflower20xx You're right: having so many characters you want to know about is like having too many cooks in the kitchen. The series has so many characters that it's hard to keep track. So, I guess that new characters aren't the only ones coming off as forced in. It doesn't change that it's depressing when a returning character doesn't get a moment to shine.
Kind of find myself trying to rewrite the story elements. Like, what if Kronika wasn't Cetrion and Shinnok's mother, but their sister? Lower her status in MK lore. Let's say that yes, she has control of time, but the Elder Gods were smart enough to know no one diety should control time, so all the Elder Gods took some of her power and share it amongst themselves. But since no singular being has all the power, the ability to see the future is greatly dimished. The Elder Gods can see possible futures. That's why they rarely interfere, because they're always seeing both good and bad visions all the time. They can't trust in vision they're not completely sure about. They even see some futures where Kronika betrays them. They also see ones where Kronika doesn't. But she's supposed to be the neutral one of the siblings so they believe she won't do anything. The thing is though, they took power from her. Made her lesser. With the passing of time, more negative emotions rise to the surface on top of the fact that, well, the other Elder Gods are seemingly more and more okay with evil losing, even at the cost of her brother. But while she isn't all she could be, she still is the progenator of these time powers. In her current state though, she almost compares herself to Raiden and that's when she gets an idea. She sends Raiden a vision where Shao Khan is the winner in Armageddon. Raiden's never gotten a vision before and there's no other ones. So he takes it as a warning from his future self. The thing is though, the vision isn't true. Taven had reached the top first. It was a false vision planted by Kronika to shake things up. Leading to a lot more pain and suffering, possibly to force the Elder God's hand and have them intervene. Throw them off their game. But the realms found a way to adjust in this new timeline and once her brother got defeated again, That's when she stepped in. Possibly a twist in the story where she makes Geras and it turns out Geras was actually the true neutral character and eventually ends up being Kronika's undoing. I don't know, that's not even fixing half the problems in the Netherrealm timeline, but I think there's a lot in the Netherrealm timeline that could use a rewrite.
I know this comment is at least 2 months old, but in OG lore, if I can recall correctly, the Elder Gods don't usually intervene for fear of waking The One Being.
I honestly engage in rewriting the story too, but I just can't bring myself to add Kronika into the story. More so than how bland her character is, she just breaks the story on so many levels. So many rectons to go through, it even kills the Midway timeline.
Wow, you just gave Kronika a better motivation, made Geras actually important and worthwhile, fixed the plot hole of Raiden having time powers but never using them and made MK:A's original ending still canon. I don't know what goes on in a professional setting when it comes to writing but the fact that your idea has a lot of fixes to not only MK9's ending but also MK11's is impressive. Its sad that all Kronika needs is some tweaking to be really interesting, instead she's just this suddenly revealed ultimate character who's stronger than everyone, even the One Being somehow...except not really because just Liu-Kang fused with Raiden is enough to defeat her when she's massively stronger than the One Being. With that in mind, it retroactively makes the One Being and the Elder Gods seem like chumps if a mortal and a 'demi god' are stronger than a being stronger than all of the,
Another inconsistency you did not mention In chapter 1 Cassie is being promoted to Commander but the thing is that the rank of Commander does not exist in the army that is a Navy rank the equivalent rank in the army would have been Lieutenant Colonel Also considering that Cassie was a sergeant in MKX that is a pretty big leap in the hierarchy in just two years apparently nepotism is indeed a thing in the special forces LoL.
IMO, creators of new MK focused too much on special forces stuff and they did not care about proper research, it was just to make Cassie look cool. People playing MK for a long time expected more of ninja and monk stuff, but nah, it,s a fighting game....so they give you a fuckton of tanks, rifles, military mumbo jumbo etc.
@@TheAlmightyAss i guess but, it does kind of bother. As it feels like people having no idea. How military ranks work and just naming stuff based on things they heard from tv and movies.
Okay so two things. One: Happy birthday. Two: Fujin wasn't technically wrong about Bi Han running away in Mythology. Bi Han had to run away from him to survive the tornado Fujin had created.
yet fujin exploded. yeah i’m sure bi han won that fight regardless plus why would he just stand there just to get killed by a tornado, the whole conversation was so stupid
Thank God someone actually has sensible opinions regarding the costumes! What you said about different characters dressing differently depending on their style/personality/ workplace is exactly what should have been done here!
But he is right about that flat bad acting is less enjoyable than camping overacting considering one you can have a few laughs at the other you can't stand
@@loganboyd6609 I prefer campy acting simply because it tends have more "soul" in comparison. Why do you think I like Yakuza and Guilty Gear so much? It lacks subtlety, but it has the heart.
Jacqui, Cassie, and Sonya eing the only Special Forces members to have such high tech weaponry doesnt make much sense to me. Why do they have cutting edge stuff like that, but everyone just gets assault rifles? If Jacqui built the stuff herself, why havent the military given her a weapons contract and funding to make weapons for them? She literally has deployable cover that reflects bullets. That would nearly gurantee victory in almost any combat scenario.
@@DimitrisGenn I would think if Jacqui is able to make them (seemingly) by herself, then why cant the government? If I had to write Jacqui, I would make her a R&D person. Cassie is already the soldier character of the new generation. Jacqui has no identity there. Instead, introduce her as having made new and improved arms for her father due to the old ones causing chronic pains (steal from FMA and say that his METAL ARMS burns his skin in the hot sun. Cold metal on human skin for prolong periods of time isnt going to do any favors either). Then she constantly has gadgets and gizmos that help the group out of binds. You can even include pre-match dialogue where Jacqui talks about making the new weapons Cassie and Sonya use. --Prematch vs Sonya-- [Sonya mounted turret drops from the sky] Jacqui: I see you and Buddy are getting along Sonya: For the last time, its name isnt Buddy. Jacqui: I made him. I name him. --Prematch vs Cassie-- [Cassie walks up texting whoever] Jacqui: I know you didn't have me install a camera in Sam just to keep talking pics with that fossil? Cassie: [snaps selfie] This fossil cost me over a thousand bucks! Jacqui: Do you want to see the bill for the parts to build that drone?! -- It's not perfect, but it's something. Later, when Cassie takes charge of the SF, Jacqui can be the head of R&D. At least then she isn't just female Jax. This gives her character direction and not just Cassie's friend and female Jax.
@@boyoboyo2272 Her and Sonya are relatively "human". They dont have any special ability. But that's why they need some major character work in order to work. Liu Kang shoots fire. That's about the extent of his skills. But he has a distinguishable personality even amongst the Shaolin. Especially when he didnt kill.
@@machine1685 Sonya and Jax actually did have some powers. It may have been retconned and reretconned, but Sonya’s rings were actually some of her “chi” powers, as well as Jax’s projectile from MK 2 and his ground pound, plus Sonya had the square wave punch where she flies into the air then flies forward. The only character, really, that didn’t have powers was Stryker; and Mokap but he doesn’t really count lol. Even Erron Black is technically mystical and superhuman with his age and his aim and skill. I guess the idea is probably that Jacqui has similar powers to Jax and she uses her Special Forces gadgets to enhance them

One thing I have always loved about videos like this is having someone express your exact thoughts so eloquently. MK is my favorite game franchise but the last decade has been a trainwreck especially for its narrative.
Aftermath feels like it doesn’t actually impact the story significantly. All it amounts to is Lu Kang going to fix the timeline, being stopped and basically given the crown, then resuming what he would have done already.
@The4thSnake That led to my question: Why is the crown important? It was never stated why the crown is needed to restart the history of Mortal Kombat. All Shang Tsung said is without the crown Liu Kang can't restart history. Well WHY!? Why is the crown needed?

37:00 Speaking of the developers not paying attention to specific character models, they screwed up Robocop's. Canonically, he doesn't have a human (bone) skull. OCP took the skin off of his corpse and stretched it over a metal skull. That's specifically why you can't kill Robo by shooting him in the mouth, and it's why his skin is cold to the touch.
Well I just learned something new. I always found it odd how his head looks larger after being shot now I know it’s because he’s wearing a skin mask, that is both interesting and adds a new level of horror. Just imagine if his face burned off Thanks
I think MK fans old and new can agree on 3 major things... 1. The Mortal Kombat 2021 movie was disappointing. 2. That Scorpion scene in MK11 where he convinces his past self to help the good guys is awesome. 3. Mortal Kombat 1995 is still the best video game movie of all time.
@@nabilahmed579 some people can’t separate criticism from hate. And 4thSnake himself has given NRS many chances to improve and change for the better but they didn’t. He has every right to throw vitriol at them
The Kronika dissection represents a very solid frame of why Onaga, Daegon or a new villain wouldve been a better choice for MK 11. The Conversation between Cetrion and Liu Kang about him having Onaga's fire could help be a plot twist that could have been a better plot key to his possible restoration by Onaga and added movie reference. They've never crossed paths before it wouldve been incredible to see Liu and Onaga on the same screen
@Charles Hastings that shouldve been the main story I'm an MK fan and I'm 28 years old. I've been playing MK for 24 years I'm tired of whupping on Shao khans and shang tsungs assess all the time. Onaga vs Liu Liu would've been as interesting as epic 2 dragons fighting each other when they couldve used both dragons symbolic for Liu and Onaga or Taven and Daegon. I was hoping Kronika would live up to her hype How sad I was....
I have always said that about the female outfits! It depends on the character. Skarlet, Sindel, and Mileena make sense. Sheeva, Kitana, and Jade are somewhere in the middle. And it doesn’t make much sense for Sonya, Cassie, or Jacqui. In my opinion, it shows more effort and dedication for each character’s costumes to show their own character and personality and not all female or all male characters have the same look. Also, I think part of why they did this in MK11 was so more people would buy the Femme Fatale skin pack and Sindel as DLC.
I mean we were fine with everyone showing their tits in mk9 so why is it that we r complaining about it now. I think all of the Edenians would wear skimpy attire considering how outworld is literally hot as fuck and they would probs be boiling.
@@nabilahmed579 Yeah, and that’s why it makes sense for Edenians to wear less clothes and not Special Forces. I think Kitana’s MKX outfit was a good choice because it was feminine and revealing without looking too over the top. And tbh I personally think that Kitana had the best outfit of the female characters in MK9 as well.
Exactly. Women can show their bodies as much as they want, but can it be their choice? Can it be because she WANTS to dress that way and reasonably WOULD? Rather than forcing every girl to dress with nothing but horny men in mind...
My biggest complaint about mk11 is how variation moves that are iconic to a character (raiden's teleport and shang tsung's ground eruption) take 2 slots, yet other moves (electric fly and soul steal for example) are standard
This games story is so confusingly bad that i have no idea how we got mk1's story out of it, like mk1 looks like it was written by god himself compared to this slop
Eh, it's very easy to say how something should be fixed, but when you go about it yourself you notice how hard it is to actually do it. So many moving parts, ranging from character motivations, plot points and setups with payoffs, so it's way harder than it looks. NRS should have hired an actual writer though.
I really dislike how nobody looked like their mk9 versions during the Time merge as you point out, even more so for characters which have skins more similar to their mk9 designs. They couldve used the MK9 designs during their first scene and switch to the new ones in the next scenes to show them off
The Midway timeline had what I thought were a lot of retcons. And it did but far less than the Netherrealm timeline. I really thought the reboot for MK9 would give them a blank canvas for a clearer story. They've done so many retcons, even George Lucas would wince
@@EnigmaticVayne Just remember that each movie itself was its own story. Meaning that logic does flow within a movie of its own. You see, to be a star wars movie, you have to be different and untried before. That's why the Empire Strikes Back was so beloved and why the Attack of the Clones was so controversial. Yet, when you look at the first two movies of the "sequels", they're just rehash of A New Hope and ESB. The only difference is that these are imitators, not innovators.
And the crazy part is they'll likely be starting completely over and fresh AGAIN with MK12. I pray to God NRS do not involve time travel or alternate timelines in the next game's story
Hey least Lucas was passionate when he was in charge. Boon and gang in this trilogy weren't as much. Its definatly got problems I agree...But I still think they're half decent and even were a positive to the series as a whole. The Disney Star Wars just destroy everything while riding the corpse
The biggest missed opportunity with the story is that they should've brought back EVERY character that has been killed off (in the comics & previous game) and have characters that didn't disappear and everyone thinks it's normal as air. Or use the time magic to merge the old timeline (midway characters) with the new timeline. This is literally the "endgame" of mortal Kombat so why not go all out?
It doesn’t make much sense that Kitana is called Kahn when multiple of her skins have the word “Khanum” and they even made an official figure modeled after a skin called “Battle Khanum”.
The entire Kahn thing was only limited to only Kotal and Shao. Even with KK’s introduction, they didn’t do some bs with it until the stupid story mode came along I would much prefer if they kept it a royal surname for these two instead of having to make a whole title for the opposite gender. Plus there is more story potential there
One thing that doesn’t make sense about the story: If Geras was sent to wipe Cassie from existence by killing Past Johnny or Sonya, wouldn’t that just bring back Shinnok automatically? That means there wouldn’t be need for a New Era. I mean, sure the story has its issues, which is why I went back and fixed as many plot holes as I could find in my fanfiction stories last year.
This is why time travel stories tend to suck. If one character dies or is damaged drastically, there are SO many changes to the time line you would have to consider.
Another confusing aspect of Chronika’s plan: She says that Raiden and Liu Kang’s combined power is a threat to her plan. However, Raiden said that in every previous timeline, he and Liu Kang fought, and Liu Kang died. So…how did their combined power ever stop Chronika, if there’s only ever one of them left alive? When Raiden fuses with Liu Kang instead of killing him, Chronika is even surprised, like nothing like this has happened before.
I mean something can be a threat to you without it ever Happening, like a tornado is a threat to my life but I myself have never actually lived through one

So glad you touched on it about 20:05 on how this game will eventually be lost to time without a server. That saddens me, we now have a MK that without trickery a vast amount of the game is lost forever after servers die.
Is that really such a big deal as it sounds? By the time MK11 servers shut down, we could 3-4 games further into the franchise, where the majority of the player base will be moved to. I understand there's a "little guy" that will be negatively effected because there'll always be *someone* that pisses and moans they still play MK11 even when MK14 or MK15 already exists. These companies need to make money to keep making these games, they're not making money if a majority contingent of the fanbase is playing an old game. And for another thing...the game isn't really that good enough to be preserved forever. Some things should be lost to time.
@@erhiueQWEF These companies have survived and thrived long before "online only" became a thing and it just feels like an unnecessary level of control. Yes, somethings maybe be better off lost to time, but why on earth would they put resources into making essentially a "Kill switch" for their product when it's already a known fact that people will still buy the new thing even without them pushing to upgrade to the new thing. Not to mention, games like these 09/10 are built to try and nickel and dime you hard into getting stuff that the company could lock you out of whenever they feel like it. It feels rather unnecessary to me and I think there's something wrong when a 20 year old psone game still has a better shelf life than some games that came out not even 5 years ago.
What i hated the most was the cyber subzero plot dropped so early in the neatherealm trilogy, smoke being the new Master of the Lin kuei would have made for a more interesting story for them. They have become such a jobber faction that Even the special forces could take them.
When i saw Sub Zero no longer being a cyborg in MKX i was like "Eh? But why drop this cyborg theme so fast? Which comicbook i need to read to know whatś going on?" Games just begin and you already see NRS have no fuckin idea how to give direction to previously introduced ideas .
Like, why not bring him back from the past instead of frost?I like frost alternate skins and some 3d era character other than kenshi being brought back but she is so insufferable in this game. Even as a npc, just reuse mkx triborg csz moveset like they did with Cyrax and sektor
Can you imagine if dark Raiden was the boss of this game. Yeah it would be something to save money and another Superman Vs Superman in injustice 1. But he would've still been better than Kronika showing just how far he has gone by killing Shinnok and Kotal Khan, both being potential threats or something like that. I feel like that would have been interesting
Honestly, the part that pissed me off the most about the story was when Liu Kang agreed to sending Fujin, Nightwolf, and Shang Tsung back in order to grab the crown and create a new timeline. If he has the ability to send people back in time into the current timeline, he could have just sent the four of them back a few hours before Kronika got the crown and curb stomped her. If Liu Kang could 1v1 her, the four of them would destroy her. Then they wouldn't have even had to bother with the whole "new timeline" thing at all. The fact that Liu Kang went along with the whole new timeline thing when he so obviously didn't need to is the absolute dumbest part of the game for me. I will say though, I think him coming out of the void beyond time and space was actually pretty clever. I interpret like this. After Leu Kang sends the three of them back in time, he locks himself in the void. Then once Kronika it's brought back through the time reversal, the void locks itself until she dies. And because Liu Kang is locked in the void beyond time and space, that means that time doesn't affect him, so he can still exist even if they undo the thing that made him the fire god. Then once Kronika died again, the void is unsealed and he is freed. That's the one good thing I can say about the DLC though, the story is woeful. As a final point, Netherrealm really needs to hire you on as a script consultant for the next game. Clearly you know more about the games than they do.
So I'm sure I've asked this before, but, does anyone have ANY idea why Geras had blue blood in the reveal build, then just randomly lost it for no reason despite his design still implying he's powered by blue-glow juice? Like, Did they actively WANT to make his character more boring or did they think it'd confuse people for the sake of D'vorah? I genuinely don't understand what fuckin rational you could have to remove that.
Also why is a weird goddess of nature stuck with red blood? Surely she should have something interesting like minty green the same as her glow, or something more nature based like tree-sap for blood? Y'know make it clear she's NOT NORMAL?
Cassie’s “klassic” costume was a remodified version of Sonya’s MK3 costume in the game. Obviously it comes to poor planning, but it’s silly that Sonya’s version isn’t titled klassic but Cassie’s is
11:49 Thank you for bringing up how character distribution on the select screen is important. Seriously, people don't think enough about how that can be meaningful for the game both story AND gameplay-wise.

Honestly, I'd love to take a stab at writing the story for these games. Even if it means starting all over again, I would say it's worth it to clean off the slate of bullcrap the games did with X and 11 (honestly, I'm not as upset with what they did in MK9, but that might end up getting wiped out too if it means making a better story)
Please do something with Ermac-Jerrod. I absolutely adored that ending in MK9 and the potential that it had in the future, and it was heartbreaking that they never did anything with it. Snake's idea of him taking in Mileena as his daughter was one I really liked, and if you decide to have the revenant stuff still happen in your story it'd make a wonderful contrast between the two timelines for Mileena to have been blessed with everything that Kitana lost, namely her father and her kingdom. Even taking that aside, Ermac-Jerrod could have a fun story about trying to rescue Sindel from the same mind control that he himself was once under.
@@nicholasfallbrook9810 I honestly hope they do something with this idea in mk12. Sindel may be dead but there is a chance Shao may have revived jerrod under his control so he can get a very powerful weapon. the fact the genuinely thought it'd be a good idea to give such an incompetent writing team the task of writing a really complex time travel/warp story with super beings described as beyond time is so baffling, they could barely keep the story of 20+ year old characters straight
If they did another MK game, I have no idea where NRS will go besides possibly contradicting the ending of Aftermath. Maybe a complete hard reboot of the story would be far better, but after NRS hires actual competent writers who actually know the material. Just make it a fresh slate. Edit: as a side note, the PS5/Xbox Series X version of MK11 is kind of wasted. Instead of the Krypt, intros, outros, fatalities and friendships running at 60fps along with normal gameplay, it still runs at 30fps. Glad they gave the upgrade for free but they should've put in more effort. Maybe 60fps for those elements, and 120fps normal gameplay.

@@dizzydarkrai9150 I mean, it could work if it implemented a few elements from Deception and maybe instead of ending at MK3 it could end with MK4. And with the Deception aspect, we could follow Shujinko as he's still looking for the Komidogu (I more than likely spelled it wrong) and he could have an affect on the main plot at certain points. And to make him playable again after over a decade. But to do a story like this it would require to be longer than 4-5 hours, including cutscenes, and to remove the character specific chapter system.
@@dizzydarkrai9150 For me is fine as long they dont do "haha quan chi is behind everything" bs again Also I dont think they will rely on the old timeline like mk9 did,so we can have less problems maybe
Dark Raiden was really a shame in this game. Many expected him to be the final boss of that game before Kronika was revealed. And it could have been interesting. I personally wished there would something like: Raiden becomes too extreme so the Earthrealm Defenders want to stop him, not kill him, though. And then Shang Tsung, following Ermac's MKX ending, would return and like the snake he is, he would convince the heroes to let him help them, even though they know he's an asshole and still keep an eye on him (kinda like in MK VS DCU?). Shang Tsung would also convince the Revenants to help. So in the end, Revenant Liu Kang and Shang Tsung would be like this timeline's Deadly Alliance and they would fight Raiden and defeat him. Then, they would fight each other because they don't trust each other and because of what they would want to do to Raiden (Shang Tsung would want to steal his soul while Revenant Liu Kang wants to simply kill him?). You would chose between the two who you play as for this fight. And then...I forgot what was my idea for the end. Maybe Cassie VS the winner? I did think about it before MK11's first trailer after all. It's not really good but it would have been interesting to see Liu Kang and Shang Tsung fight together on the same team.
I think that the idea of onaga taking the place of Kronika would make a lot more sense Edit: the aesthetic would be a lot different, the hourglass wouldn't be as generic or machine like but rather an ancient lovecraftian architecture, as the game would follow that aesthetic and the concept of black magic and souls behind it, onaga would use his clay soldiers instead of the army of demons we have seen in mk11, and most importantly only 4 characters would be on Onaga side, the rest of the rooster.. would have to put aside their rivalry and diferences to fight a bigger threat.
@@matt911112I think Deception was the best in terms of story, music, and atmosphere. X had a stupid story, but some of the best fighting mechanics and controls in the series.
30:43 you know what the worst part about the character moveset overhauls? They don't serve any purpose story nor lore wise despite being REALLY easy. Not having an in universe reason for the characters power/fighting styles being different shows that NRS is changing things just because. Jin in tekken 4 is a good example of how to make even few changes and having a reason. In T3 and T tag he fights like the Mishimas but in 4 he changes styles because he hates everything Mishima related so he learned traditional Karate(and I belive kazama style) and kept some elements of the Mishima style(only using it fully as devil jin the other half of the devil gene in kazuya). Like I said the NRS changes serve no purpose story wise nor character wise and would be really easy to make for example: Jacquie in story can shoot bullets but not in gameplay(because they wanted her to be rushdown instead of keep away like MKX) so make her train in other styles(like shirai ryu which takeda recommended in pre fight) and mix them with her mma/military training to make it so she has no need for guns but combines her style with tech because outworld exist. Sonya no longer has her dive kick nor her cartwheel so make her just be feeling the effects of aging so she makes her styles not use much acrobatics and more traditional military styles like cqc and systema(though in mk11 it wouldn't make much sense since the main version in the story is the young version). Johnny could have a similar thing by having him still be a good fighter but have him use his doppelganger from his stunt double variation in mkx to do some moves(it would also show how much Johnny's shadow powers have improved by making a clone for a few seconds) These are just a few examples of how to give an in universe explanation. And by nor having them nrs makes it so there isn't a reason to change moveset which could allow them to focus more on adding new character, brand new like shujinko, tsu hao, or returning favorites like kenshi, takeda, etc. But also allow them to improve gameplay and overall improve the quality of the game.
Iori in kof 13 is another good example as he lost his flame powers in 11 and 12 but got new powers allowing him to have a new playstyle but be the same character and as a bonus the flame power version can still be used
Heck, MK itself had done this before. Liu Kang has a non-lethal fatality in MK1 due to his moral code (and as a way of reducing the power Shang Tsung would receive). In MK2, he is seeking fiery revenge for his Shaolin bretheren, so he now has a more violent fatality, a fatality where he literally loses himself and turns into a monster and fire-based moves in his regular moveset. By Deception, his one fatality is a stronger version of his regular fireball move showing his lack of moral code as a blood-thirsty zombie and his other finisher is related to his ghost self, thereby each finisher reflects the two different states Liu Kang finds himself in in the game. In MK9, Liu Kang starts going down a darker path, so his finisher is him going harder than normal with one of his normal attacks which is even reflected in the story. MKX is a kinda similar story to Deception, where both Liu Kang's finishers represent both his immoral Revenant state and his hypothetical human bitter state. Shao Kahn starts in MK2 as being pretty overconfident in gameplay only for him to be more aggressive and melee-focused in his moveset in MK3 due to him possibly being more careful with you after his defeat in the last game and him possibly having powered up from the soulnado. Scorpion in Mythologies in his human form has a new more basic moveset, whereas in his spectre form he gets his UMK3 moveset, showing the new power he received. Also, in Deadly Alliance he gains more fire-based abilities after chasing Quan Chi in the 5th level of the Netherrealm and receiving a power boost. Sub-Zero's Ice Slide turns into a shoulder charge in Deadly Alliance and Frost is the one who takes the Ice Slide, showing an increase in power for Sub-Zero as well as Frost being his apprentice and his inferior. Also, his weapon of choice goes from a sword in MK9 to an axe in MK11 showing an increase in power between games. Thay and battle axes are fucking cool. Something similar can be said about the transition from his MK9 to his MKX X-Ray. That or laziness. Johnny Cage goes from hitting only guys and not gals in the private area to his being rated E for everyone. Character development or the team kinda forgot about it? You make the call! Noob Saibot has a more unique moveset the more of a presense in the story he gets and the more of his own character he becomes and the more we learn of him. Noob also gets one of Sub-Zero's fatalities. Foreshadowing or just reused asset? You make the call. By Deception, Noob goes from serving others to having aspirations as ruler of the Netherrralm, thus he now comes equipped with his own cyborg servant in the form of Smoke. By MK9, he uses shadow clones as a reference to him being a shadow of his former self (and maybe a meta reference of him being comprised of lots of reused assets in the old days) and has energy attacks as a remnant of his cryomancer abilities. Kung Lao learns in Deadly Alliance a new signature kick to rival the Flying Kick, since the one who mastered the Flying Kick ended up being defeated and killed by the Deadly Alliance. Kai, Cassie, Takeda and Jacquie share moves with Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, Scorpion and Jax respectively due to being their successors. Cassie going from pistols in MKX to more high-tech weapons in MK11 similar to Sonya's high-tech wristguns can be attributed to them becoming closer with each other at the end of MKX. Jacquie expanding her high-tech arsenal also shows some level of growth and development and character from X to 11, something that Jacquie really needs. And off course we have the whole idea behind 3D era martial art styles and NRS variations, all of which depict different aspects and phases of the characters' lives.
@@vaggos2003 It's not really about learning new things; it's about changing everything from the ground up. For example, if you told me that if Takeda had been in MK11 and, after training with his father, learned the Teleslam or other moves from Kenshi and added them (or his versions) to his moveset, then I would be fine with it. As long as the rest of his moveset remained the same with very minor changes but non/very few changes to the inputs themselves. The problem with NRS games is that they change most things, from combo strings to special move inputs. For example, Johnny Cage's nut punch in MK9 was "back, down, 1", but in MKX, the button is 3. His flip kick in MK9 was "down back 3", while in MKX it's the same but with 4, and in MK11 it goes back to 3. My complaint and point is that it isn't as returning player-friendly as other games. If you play a character and want to switch to another, you should have a good idea of the inputs. For example, in Tekken, if you want to play Tekken 8 and you've played Tekken 7 with the confirmed characters, you can almost go straight to playing and learn as you go. In MK, if someone who hasn't played MK11 but played MKX and MK9 wants to play MK11, they have to go through every single basic attack, combo string, special move, etc., before they can actually play at a decent level. Regarding the lore aspect that I mentioned, I think you missed the point, mainly with the NRS era. For example, outside of looking cool (and changing Jacqui from being an annoying zoner), there is no actual explanation (yours are technically conjecture, no offense). This is because they changed their styles completely. If they hinted at the reason or had them explained in something like the comics, then it would be fine. For example, "Why did Cassie ever think of using a drone (and why not use it in cutscenes)?" If they gave a reason where the explanation is a no-brainer, like the Sonya not using her flips explanation I gave, Johnny learning to control his powers more (like I suggested, AGAIN), or Takeda knowing how to use his telekinesis powers more, those are easy explanations. Maybe not the best, but they are something. And like the Iori example that nobody mentioned, it is stated outright the reason why he doesn't have his fire abilities anymore and isnt left to player interpretaion because it would make no real sense.
I think you heavily misunderstood my point. I agree with you. Yes, I do acknowledge that some of the lore explanations I presented were a bit headcanony, but that wasn't my point. My point was that the MK team is fully capable of keeping a consistent feel in a character's moveset and justify it story-wise, but a lot of the time, particularly in the NRS era, they just...don't. I was criticising the NRS team. I believe the fact that the majority of the examples I brought up are from the original timeline and that the NRS examples are the more headcanony ones is solid proof of that. I mainly focused on lore rather than functions because I'm more knowledgable on that aspect, although the same core logic applies to both of them, just like you also procceeded to explain.
The argument that you shouldn’t complain about the micro transactions because you do not have to buy them is stupid. The point is, they thought it was a good idea to put them (e.g. buying Frost) in the game.
@@mr_mikegar321 Exactly. That's why I don't like TrueUnderDawg's stance on micro transactions. It's because of that 'you don't have to buy them' attitude is the reason why they keep returning.

@@MrMonsterKen there is no need to take it personal, my friend. There are plenty of bad stories people enjoy and I am no exception. Mkx did an interesting thing by introducing the civil war in the Outworld, which at least moved the story forward. But mk11 story is a wasted potential all over the place. Dark Raiden was removed too early in the story and didn't have any impact. Cassie and Sonya conflict is just dumb. Kronika pretty much lacks motivation and looks rather stupid than powerful given her powers. Mk11 re-introduced the same characters from earlier timelines and again ended with a universe reboot rendering events meaningless. There's no cohesive story, there is only lazy writing.
@@oscar1012 Spawn was one of the only good things about this: not only does he just ooze 90s’ edge and they got Keith David to voice him again but his lines are brutal and extremely satisfying especially with the fact he’s one of the strongest characters on the roster.

Something that really bothered me about Aftermath was how Shang Tsung had this label as a trickster and a liar, but if we look at what he did in the reboot timeline (mainly Mk9 because that’s his only other appearance in this timeline), he spent most of his time being pretty straight faced and direct with everyone. He never really lied nor did he betray or trick people. So why the hell does he have that label? Lines like “A lie, Shang Tsung. Something you know quite well.” are extra confusing because, Liu Kang has never known Shang Tsung to be a liar or manipulator. He wasn’t some Grima Wormtongue style schemer he was just a side boss to Shao Kahn who carried out his orders and proposed new tournaments. It’s an odd retcon IMHO.
I'm guessing the label comes from his actions off screen. If we see the events of the story and we feel convinced that shang isn't knocking under the table. Then he's a better schemer than given credit. Well that's how I see it.
MK11 just exhausted me after a while. It WAS fine except with the fact I had to deal with the games disconnecting while I was in the middle of something and a majority of the time wasn’t because my internet, it just did that, the inexcusable amount of BS I for some reason put myself through. I did the Gauntlet towers which were brutal and all you get is Fire God Liu Kang which is admittedly cool but you get his powers with fire AND Raiden's or Ray-den's (if your that person) thunder since that was Fire God Liu Kang’s shtick! Some of the few things I liked was making some of the custom loadouts based on the in game story or Klassic appearances like making a Hanzo Hasashi loadout in the games story and a Klassic loadout I got after purchasing the game's Ultimate Edition. I bought it while it was on sale so I didn’t waste that much money. But why the F*** didn’t they give MK2 Scorpion white or even yellow eyes? That was his part of his look, like what? I even made a Scorpion loadout titled *Rebirth* because of its skin I got titled Rebirth with more yellow and black and what I can assume is brownish gold that actually looks like A Scorpion design but with the default versions layout. The Klassic skins are the best things and the other things like fatalities I like or are ok (with the right context) are Scorpions Chain Reaction fatality, Johnny Cage's uppercut fatality, brutalities like the Toasty fatality that do as Klassic Scorpion, Dancing On the Ceiling brutality as Sub-Zero, Kabal's classic scream brutality and some others but I can’t remember the names. Also Shao Kahn has a price tag on his design.
My favorite ending was Ranbo's since he showed the reality of this power, you need to make sure certain people live then you need to kill billions and not care, but Ranbo can't do it, it would break him, so he left, that's what I would do but keep the power so I can keep my life quiet
I've never seen Rambo and had no idea what a nuanced take on war the series actually had. I'll have to check it out. Doesn't hurt that Stallone's performance in the role is excellent.
Here's a point you missed: the lack of the revenant versions of Stryker and Smoke. More particularly Smoke. He's the only member of the Lin Kuei missing. He's supposed to be the best friend of Sub-Zero who he hasn't shared an onscreen moment with since MK9...which came out 10 yrs ago ! Keep in mind, they died at the same time by Sindel's hand. Sub-Zero however, managed to get restored BUT Smoke wasn't as lucky. This would've set up a conflict between them. And Sub-Zero says to Cyrax that he & Scorpion are proof that anything is possible as far as getting restored which is silly cause the latter cannot relate to being a cyborg which means he's referring to their time as Quan Chi's puppets, something they both share with Smoke who isn't mentioned. Sub-Zero's purpose should've been trying to restore his friend. But instead he destroys the cyber kin kuei for the 1000th time.
Having Kabal here and no mention of Stryker when he was also a revenant in the last two games is also very jarring. Like, did he suddenly forget about his officer friend or something? Back in MK9, Kabal was worried about Stryker when he couldn't find him after he had escaped the Netherworld but now he hasn't mentioned him at all. While Stryker isn't as important to the overall lore as the Lin Kuei, it's really annoying to see a character get dropped seemingly out of existence. Then again, I'm glad he's not in this game. Given that he's a police officer, they likely would've butchered his character given how politically charged some of the writing is.
@@lapplandkun9273 As I said, I'm perfectly okay with this. Given the bad reputation IRL cops have (at least in the US) right now, I wouldn't want them to try and bring him back because I'm worried they'd use him for political strawman arguments to make cops look worse than they already are when he's a rare, shining example of what the good ones should be.
@@jmaster4941 in one of the intro’s Robocop asks about him, and Styker is talked about fondly by the character Robocop is about to fight, so idk, maybe they wouldn’t have.
I really can't stand when everything in a series is suddenly retconned to having all been in service to some newly introduce character and/or plotline that was at no point alluded to prior. It's especially annoying because I really wanted to see what direction they'd take with this new version of Dark Raiden. The previous game seemed to be setting things up for an interesting face-off between multiple factions of questionable morality. You had the well-intentioned extremist Dark Raiden, Kotal and Outworld who were now on very shaky terms with Earthrealm and the Revenants who (before being turned into generic villains in MK11) seemed to just be trying to make the best out of the crappy hand that they had been dealt. And that's not even getting in to the whole unseen plotline where Onaga was apparently manipulating Goro. Why not force the other factions into an uneasy alliance against Onaga who's seeking to use Goro as a means of facilitating his own resurrection? How about instead of turning them all into a bunch of jobers (or in Dark Raiden's case, abruptly deleting him) actually give them a chance to shine by coming together to face the real biggest threat in the series? And don't give use this crap about Kronika being a bigger threat than The One Being, that's like trying to argue that the Greek deity Chronos would be a bigger threat than Azathoth from the Cthulhu Mythos.
This honestly just made me think that one each chapter was written, they forgot about most of the previous chapters (or games for that matter) because these retcons in the same exact story is just mindboggling.
3:29:30 thank you. I mean that more than I should. I love Raiden. It hurts me how every single one of his good, noble and cool aspects gets destroyed, made worse or just taken away from him. These writers didn't like him at all, so they made him a strawman for everything they hate. They made him self-absorbed, foolish, incompetent and self-sanctimonious on every occasion that would make him the bad guy that has to redeem himself for no real reason. Everything bad that an old, old man in clouds who caused his sons deaths could be to someone who doesn't know him, and giving everything else, the wisdom, the positive impact on history, the inner-peace with non of the guilt or blame, to Fujin. This is not give and take, that is only flanderisation.
Aftermath was such a retconned mess and how is Shao Kahn killing a still injured Kotal as well as being easily manipulated by Shang Tsung, make him a threat? If anything, it makes him into more of a joke than the original story, where he held his own against a full strength Kotal and loses to the woman that he had trained for centuries as an assassin making a cruel irony. Happy birthday though Snake, still one of the best game TH-camrs, cause you aren't sucking off NRS like most of the others who get early release crap.
Also, he doesn’t even know that sindel will eventually betray him. How? She is literally the most easiest character to point out when it comes to betrayal and u don’t do anything? Shao would never trust sindel even if it’s her retconned version. And how does he beat liu now when he can’t do it in mk2, mk3 and mk9.

9 had a way better story with way more logical moments and motifs
But 9 had moments of questionable that goes uncontested and overlook another example ( cyber subzero was retrieved and his memory was returned to normal why not cryax he was forced?
Imagine if the writers just read the wiki about their own game series to know what would make sense in the story.

Things aren't allowed to have closure now a days; I mean, how could you keep milking a cow if you already made beef out of her?

If that’s true, then sindel basically has no excuse for why kitana’s raised to be good. So kitana would basically be an evil bitch basically
I think I need to clarify I'm speaking from the human time frame like we had 3000 years since first fertile crescent civilizations to alexander the great to caesar, then 1000 years anno domini where edennia was still a realm and then only 1000 where it no longer exists
and earthrealm never got contacted once? No military aid, no trade? Nothing?

SIGN ME THE FUCK UP
The character's wasted potential to bother me most is that of Erron Black.
His ending in mkx was absolutely amazing I loved it but then again I despised the Kombat kids

New head canon. For real, I can't stop thinking about how shity this new trilogy has become, so you just saved me out of that, thanks 👍
With that in mind, it retroactively makes the One Being and the Elder Gods seem like chumps if a mortal and a 'demi god' are stronger than a being stronger than all of the,
I like the way this fixes mk9's ending of Armagedon, would have been a cool plot twist
Another inconsistency you did not mention
In chapter 1 Cassie is being promoted to Commander but the thing is that the rank of Commander does not exist in the army that is a Navy rank the equivalent rank in the army would have been Lieutenant Colonel
Also considering that Cassie was a sergeant in MKX that is a pretty big leap in the hierarchy in just two years apparently nepotism is indeed a thing in the special forces LoL.
Also she was a sargent apparantly. As you mentioned commander is a navy rank, but you also. Don't just jump from e-5 to o-5

That has me thinking, pretty much every MK character has some sort of mystical or superhuman ability or strength. What is Jacqui’s special power?
Maybe it's too expensive or something? idk
--Prematch vs Sonya--
[Sonya mounted turret drops from the sky]
Jacqui: I see you and Buddy are getting along
Sonya: For the last time, its name isnt Buddy.

Jacqui: I know you didn't have me install a camera in Sam just to keep talking pics with that fossil?
Cassie: [snaps selfie] This fossil cost me over a thousand bucks!
Jacqui: Do you want to see the bill for the parts to build that drone?!

It's not perfect, but it's something.
The only character, really, that didn’t have powers was Stryker; and Mokap but he doesn’t really count lol. Even Erron Black is technically mystical and superhuman with his age and his aim and skill.
How sad I was....

So glad you touched on it about 20:05 on how this game will eventually be lost to time without a server. That saddens me, we now have a MK that without trickery a vast amount of the game is lost forever after servers die.
That reason, along with how much of a annoying grind the game can be, is why I say "Screw Always Online Games, for the most part."
Yo based TGX

With how bad the NRS writing is they should have never done a story with time travel.

No one, even his generals know who ermac actually is considering how the mask hides the true identity.
So much story potential there and who knows? We might get a heavy hitter ninja for mk12

@@nabilahmed579 Who's to say that Shao Kahn will even be in 12? With how they've basically killed off everyone else and put either Liu Kang or Shang Tsung in charge of all reality, the next game's status is decidedly uncertain, I may even say bleak.

the fact the genuinely thought it'd be a good idea to give such an incompetent writing team the task of writing a really complex time travel/warp story with super beings described as beyond time is so baffling, they could barely keep the story of 20+ year old characters straight
Injustice really fucked up Mortal Kombat I feel
If they did another MK game, I have no idea where NRS will go besides possibly contradicting the ending of Aftermath. Maybe a complete hard reboot of the story would be far better, but after NRS hires actual competent writers who actually know the material. Just make it a fresh slate.
Edit: as a side note, the PS5/Xbox Series X version of MK11 is kind of wasted. Instead of the Krypt, intros, outros, fatalities and friendships running at 60fps along with normal gameplay, it still runs at 30fps. Glad they gave the upgrade for free but they should've put in more effort. Maybe 60fps for those elements, and 120fps normal gameplay.
that would cost them money so i think they PANDER AASSSS much as they can to old fans , and also shit on the 3d era because it was worse than our favorite trilogy of dumb series staple and retcons riiiiiiight ?
I'm worried it's just going to be another mk1-3 retelling
@@dizzydarkrai9150 I mean, it could work if it implemented a few elements from Deception and maybe instead of ending at MK3 it could end with MK4. And with the Deception aspect, we could follow Shujinko as he's still looking for the Komidogu (I more than likely spelled it wrong) and he could have an affect on the main plot at certain points. And to make him playable again after over a decade. But to do a story like this it would require to be longer than 4-5 hours, including cutscenes, and to remove the character specific chapter system.
@@arllyfat_cat9678 I think we r going straight into deception this time, heavy focus on the outworlders
@@dizzydarkrai9150 For me is fine as long they dont do "haha quan chi is behind everything" bs again
Also I dont think they will rely on the old timeline like mk9 did,so we can have less problems maybe
I think that the idea of onaga taking the place of Kronika would make a lot more sense
Edit: the aesthetic would be a lot different, the hourglass wouldn't be as generic or machine like but rather an ancient lovecraftian architecture, as the game would follow that aesthetic and the concept of black magic and souls behind it, onaga would use his clay soldiers instead of the army of demons we have seen in mk11, and most importantly only 4 characters would be on Onaga side, the rest of the rooster.. would have to put aside their rivalry and diferences to fight a bigger threat.

I literally just spent 4 hours of my life watching this shit. And it was worth it.
Great job, Snake!
Like I said the NRS changes serve no purpose story wise nor character wise and would be really easy to make for example:
Jacquie in story can shoot bullets but not in gameplay(because they wanted her to be rushdown instead of keep away like MKX) so make her train in other styles(like shirai ryu which takeda recommended in pre fight) and mix them with her mma/military training to make it so she has no need for guns but combines her style with tech because outworld exist.
Sonya no longer has her dive kick nor her cartwheel so make her just be feeling the effects of aging so she makes her styles not use much acrobatics and more traditional military styles like cqc and systema(though in mk11 it wouldn't make much sense since the main version in the story is the young version). Johnny could have a similar thing by having him still be a good fighter but have him use his doppelganger from his stunt double variation in mkx to do some moves(it would also show how much Johnny's shadow powers have improved by making a clone for a few seconds)
These are just a few examples of how to give an in universe explanation.
@@vaggos2003 ok that makes sense, its just that youre SUPER LONG and undivided first comment made me get lost for a moment, sorry about that.

The problem with MK 11 story is that every fan story seems much more appealing.
Just end the franchise already. I'm tired of seeing my favorite characters butchered over and over for the sake of money.
But Spawn tho
@@oscar1012 Spawn was one of the only good things about this: not only does he just ooze 90s’ edge and they got Keith David to voice him again but his lines are brutal and extremely satisfying especially with the fact he’s one of the strongest characters on the roster.
Thank you Snake for the critique long awaited I expected this come way later. "When's the MK11 Critique coming?" Is no more! 4 hours of bashing on the game's flaws.
Also, happy Birthday Snake! Don't let age slow you down
Something that really bothered me about Aftermath was how Shang Tsung had this label as a trickster and a liar, but if we look at what he did in the reboot timeline (mainly Mk9 because that’s his only other appearance in this timeline), he spent most of his time being pretty straight faced and direct with everyone.

@@jmaster4941 NRS hates stryker like they do the 3D era.

NRS are milking the line "there are fates worse than death"
And don't give use this crap about Kronika being a bigger threat than The One Being, that's like trying to argue that the Greek deity Chronos would be a bigger threat than Azathoth from the Cthulhu Mythos.
im honored to be here as it premieres tbh
