  • I'll show you how to fit a plywood floor followed by fitting laminate floor boards. This is the best way to get a nice and solid flooring installed into your van. For a van the size of a Volkswagen caddy maxi you'll need one sheet of 12mm plywood, 2 packs of 12mm laminate floor boards and a bottle of wood glue.

    Just the video I was looking for Will. Thanks. Quick question - you dont need to screw down the plywood floor?

    • @willsvanadventures

      Glad it's helped and no you don't. It can help but I have found the weight is enough to hold it down 🙂

  • @burgers1903
    @burgers1903 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I thought about doing this with laminate but was concerned about the weight. Ended up using Altro vinyl flooring. A lot lighter than laminate. Looks good mind you 👍🏼

    • @willsvanadventures
      @willsvanadventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah yh that's a fair point, I don't it adds to much especially for what these vans are made to handle. But saving weight is always a good idea! How did it look once you finished? Thanks for commenting as well :)

      I guess with vinyl you could also tuck it under the plastic trim pieces?

    • @willsvanadventures
      @willsvanadventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markmayfield3488 yeah you could if it was thin enough like a few mm as theres not much of a gap.

    Hey Will, how did you secure the plywood subfloor to the insulation?

    • @willsvanadventures
      @willsvanadventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, I just placed it on top. Just use the weight of the ply to hold it down plus it was a snug fit.

    Hi will, just wondering after this video did you use anything to cover the metal section up front where the bulkhead would usually be ?

    • @willsvanadventures
      @willsvanadventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, no I didnt but on my current build I'm thinking or carpeting over it. Have you got any ideas? :)

      @ellisgrist6566 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@willsvanadventures I was also thinking about carpeting it, but I was thinking of using some grey pvc trim that I have to match the floor, it will also hide my dodgy edge on the floor 😬

    Hey Will! I'm also converting a caddy maxi, just cut all the laminate flooring to length, and now need to decide how to pin it down to the subfloor. How has the wood glue been holding up over time? Is it a good method, or would you also recommend looking into something else like screwing it down? Thanks!

    • @willsvanadventures
      @willsvanadventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Ah awesome that sounds great! The wood glue has been amazing, got no issues at tall. I prefer to glue things down instead of screwing as it prevents creating holes than can then rust in the vans metal.
      So if you can I'd try sticking it down with some adeshive instead of screwing. :)

      @VirtualTurtleGames 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@willsvanadventures Mate, thanks so much for the quick reply! These videos have been a big help so also thanks for that. Good to hear that the glue's been holding up, I'll probably go for that then.

    hey, how comes you went for cladding and then flooring? most do flooring first

    • @willsvanadventures
      @willsvanadventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, it was to keep the floor in a good condition. When doing the cladding, it creates lost of dust. Then if you are painting it garnishing there is the risk that this will spill onto the floor. Plus you'll be walking all over the floor and possibly dropping tools that could damage the floor. Floor is normally the last job on any job. 😁

    • @willsvanadventures
      @willsvanadventures  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey, I didn't, just used the weights of the ply and it stays down. But you can screw it down or better yet, glue it down.

    Love the floor but you missed one thing where you fitted tight to sides etc, moisture and expansion. Your floor will lift at some stage, damp weather etc, should have left a small gap at the sides ... your call

    • @willsvanadventures
      @willsvanadventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure laminated floor boards do that? There was a gap around the edge so shouldn't be an issue 🙂
