They scarred his face before doing the phenol, which was extremely wrong. On top of that, they did not ask for any exams to know if he had heart or kidney diseases. All of it was insane.

I had a mentor who did phenol peels on her face, neck, shoulders, and arms over the course of 7 months. She’d spent the last 30 years working outdoors in a time before daily sunscreen was a thing, had severe sun damage, and was covered in precancerous spots. So the oncology specialist dermatologist she was seeing recommended phenol peels to get ahead of possibly widespread skin cancer. They sent her to a cardiologist for clearance before they started and did one area at a time, then the next a month later. She luckily didn’t have any serious complications, but she looked terrible and had to switch to part time indoor work for the duration. Last I heard from her she was 2 years out, free from any concerning spots, and looked easily 20 years younger than when she’d had the peels done. For her, the risk and the bother was outweighed by stopping skin cancer, but for most people it’s way too much.
@@spacecat1974 Yeah, they made her do it in the hospital under heavy sedation, so at least the peel itself didn’t hurt, but all the aftermath is highly unpleasant. When they did her face it swelled so badly the next day that she ended up needing steroid injections to help take the swelling down.
What kind of aftercare and treatment for pain or discomfort did she need? I know someone thinking about doing this, but I can't imagine it's going to be pleasant.
@@argarman09 I have limited details on that, and it was almost a decade ago, so things may have changed. I do know they kept her at the hospital for several hours after each procedure to make sure she wasn’t going to have any severe life threatening complications. They did send her home with prescribed pain meds for the first two weeks after each procedure. She said it was like having the worst sunburn of your life. She would take two weeks off after each peel and spent most of it apparently keeping cool wet compresses on the treated area, sleeping, and watching TV. She’d be back at work after those two weeks for two weeks until the next area was done. She had to be very careful to stay out of the sun and even away from windows, couldn’t get too hot or cold, or do any sort of heavy physical activity, had to drink lots of extra water, take tepid showers, and couldn’t use anything on the skin soap/lotion/cosmetics wise other than what the doctor had given her to use for a full month after. Apparently the idea is that you want to avoid any irritation or inflammation of the treated skin. The worst of the pain and peeling was apparently those first two weeks but she said it felt slightly sunburned for a good 2 months after. Looked it too. She was very pink and a bit puffy even 2 weeks out coming back to work. So yeah, not for the faint of heart, and definitely need to be able to afford the downtime to do nothing and go nowhere for at least 2 weeks, and deal with a lot of limitations and not looking or feeling great for a month or more. So logistically it isn’t something everyone can afford. Her husband was very supportive and happy to take care of her and everything else for a while, and our employer at the time knew she was half the reason the company hadn’t folded long before. They also knew that occupational sun exposure was the primary reason she needed the treatment in the first place. So they were happy to work with her and make sure she had the (albeit unpaid) time to take care of what she needed to do.

I'll never and i mean NEVER forget when my boss had this done. Came to work without telling anyone she had a procedure ... The entire salon was silent for weeks. You could cut the air... 😅
God, I would NOT do this. I'm an acne picker and a scab picker. I'd not be able to leave it alone, and facial pain is just unbearable to me. I'd be insufferable to be around. Not worth it.
I have a story to tell. About 7 years ago I ordered this chemical peel from eBay. It turned out to be an illegal selling of a phenol acid. My skin literally turned white the second I put on and the pain, OH THE PAIN!! My heart started racing so fast I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I did my ENTIRE face. I left it on for only 10 seconds. My face started oozing after a few days and it took about 2 weeks for it to peel off entirely. I took such great after care that the results were phenomenal!!! Literally gave me a new face. I figured out a few later that I had applied phenol on my skin. The healing and downtime was awful but the results were incredible. Would NEVER go through that again.
@@petunia7623 Omg I know! Thank you. It was terrifying, the entire experience. The results were incredible but I would never ever do that again, even if it was done professionally. I didn’t even leave my house for almost 2 weeks because I was so scared that the sun was going to penetrate through that fresh raw skin and leave my skin damaged. Had to get family to buy me groceries 😅 My skin literally fell off like a thick hard mask. But holy I still can’t get over how well it turned out. But it could have gone terribly wrong. So glad it didn’t get infected or worse
@@petunia7623I was soo scared. I put a very thin layer of polysporin and a super thick layer of aquafor and a thick layer of sunscreen. I basically lived like that for 2 weeks and sleeping was almost impossible because I didn’t want my skin to rub off on my pillow and rip my skin off 😭
Glad you're ok. Just curious tho, no judgement...why didn't you stop using the product the moment it started to cause intense pain? Did you do your entire face at one time, or in sections...I'm assuming you wouldn't know about the sectioning, unless it came with directions that told you what to do.
We had a young man die from a phenol peel here in Brazil this month, it as performed by an unauthorized esthetician who wasn't an esthetician or a doctor of any sorts. Please be mindful and careful when you go for a procedure. The phenol is easily absorbed by your skin!
How reassuring that the procedure's from the era where radium and cocaine were considered medicine and doctors advised pregnant women to drink and smoke.
I have never looked into any of these procedures, just now as I'm in my 30ties as a man, because of curiousity on youtube and I'm SHOCKED what people do to themselves if it's not medically necessary.
I can understand why someone would want to do a peel that extreme. I had severe cystic acne on my face and back for many years as a kid which also left some pretty bad scarring. A series of moderate chemical peels got rid of most the scars and also cured my face from cystic acne almost entirely. It wasnt just about trying to look good, it was that I felt like i was disfigured compared to others as a kid and other people really let me know it. Big thanks to my parents for helping me pay for the treatment when I was a young adult.
Why do people do the most ridiculous things to themselves 😑 putting ACID on your face. 😢 scary crazy 🤪 why.. Why..WHY? IMAGINE if you're supposed to look the SAME throughout your lifetime, you wouldn't age or mature past "maybe" 10 - 14 years old, ... you think.
Some people like myself are very self conscious and are willing to take a chance to achieve “normal” looking skin. This is probably the only treatment that almost guarantees results for acne scars.
I always have this fascination on phenol peel. The drastic change on the skin after the phenol peel is amazing. Its way more quicker and the difference is so much more apparent than all the creams.
I would get a phenol peel if I had the very deep acne scaring that other types of treatment honestly don’t compare 🤷🏼♀️ . For fine lines, wrinkles, and sun spots I think there are safer treatments that will still give decent results. I would say that these peels have their place, but probably not for the average person.
Man. I come across your videos every now and then (not sure why) and I'm amazed at the procedures people endure to look younger/better... I don't even wear makeup, so this stuff is insanity to me. People think I'm 15-20 yrs. younger than I am so, maybe not wearing makeup and destroying your skin is the way to go.
I get a Diamond Peel Express every 5 weeks with high frequency/Red Light therapy and have been doing this for almost a year. My Esthetician taught me how to take better care of my skin (been a tom boy all my life so was never into skin care/beauty) and getting with her was the BEST thing I have done for my skin. I just turned 43 and I do not look my age. I couldn't image doing THIS to my skin. The pros of this treatment does not outweigh the cons in my opinion. But, to each their own. That looks super scary.
Nope, nope aaaaaand NOPE! 😱 I am 71 with just a few wrinkles around my mouth. I don't wear lipstick ( ick)y so no "seeping" into the lines. Otherwise, my skin is smooth. Be happy with yourself!
At 4:34, if you examine the 'before' image, it's apparent that there are signs around the eyes indicating she has some sort of facial mask on. I believe this is a prosthetic mask designed to make her look older, thus rendering the transformation more dramatic.
i find this so baffling, i work in a lab and on some of the chemical fume hoods we have phenol safety guides posted (correct PPE for handling, what the exposure symptoms are, what to do if exposed, etc)
I could NEVER do this having mild dermatillomania; which I would genuinely love to hear you cover in the future ❤️ I refused to ever consider peals of any kind knowing the damage I would do to myself and that's food for thought I'm giving to my fellow "pickers" who are considering such an extream vanity project!!
Exactly one time I trusted a spa to do a facial on me. I had gone there many times before for massages nails and other stuff and it always had a flawless experience. This was not an extreme peel, it was all surface level products and my skin was so angry so red and so inflamed for 3 days afterwards. The resultant under an hours worth of work was the equivalent of if I had only put water on my face for 2 weeks and had to neglected my entire skin care routine. My skin was so dry and flaky and tight and itchy. I normally put on a thicker moisturizer in the evening and a more lightweight one in the morning and am fine. I had to put Vaseline all over my face three to four times a day because I physically couldn't put enough moisture on my face to calm it. I also couldn't use any of my other products like toners or ampules because they just made the situation worse. My skin is notoriously problematic for me I have to treat it consistently and with great caution sensitivity. This misadventure was a painful but important lesson I've not forgotten. I was so upset at how much damage was done in under an hour. While I still love massages, body scrubs and all of that good jazz I would likely never trust anybody to do a facial again outside of myself. I might consider it if it's a licensed esthetician and we have a serious in-depth conversation about what I I want done and what I do not want done and how my skin behaves.
Crazy that beauty standards make people take such risks. The weathering and wrinkling of your face over time is a testament to your life experience so far. We all know people we wish had lived long enough to wrinkle. Be proud of your skin and be kind to it
Yeah I’m wondering what it looks like a couple months later. Of course it looks less wrinkled when your body is all inflamed and puffy from the damage.
That looked very terrifying seeing skin pealing on humans actually existed. But, I was surprised that this technique actually exists when I saw that thumbnail. I definitely wondered how these people have a 2nd skin before healing up for weeks?
@@mysteryheart53 They're a milder peel than the phenol. They cost a couple hundred dollars or so to have done. I'm experienced enough that I started buying TCA online and doing them myself.
I use raw African black soap, and it will clear up most of the issues with your face. Just use it every day-you can even use it for your whole body, and your skin will be smooth. Also, apply a mixture of coconut oil and olive oil to your entire body and face while you are wet after shower.
You know, I'm a huge horror buff. Really into darker themes and seeing just how f'ed up the human mind can go on a psychological level, especially when it isn't just a "what if" but something someone actually did/attempted. This made me queasy AF and actually managed to make me pause and step away. So this a big nope. I spend most of my days convincing clients to accept and love themselves as drastic changes generally only look natural in your head and unnatural to damaging in reality. One of my favorite TH-camrs turned Streamer who became a mother recently said something in a PodCast that warmed my heart, "I'm excited to get laugh lines." Something so small to be stated that I wish more people could see the beauty in. We're all going to age, and eventually die. The fear of ageing is extreme-- and while I'm all for taking care of your skin to make it take longer or even reduce more intense signs, but we should also learn to accept that it will happen. Something like a phenol peel is just too far.
I have had severe rheumatoid arthritis since January 1990. I have had multiple joint replacements. Because I cannot reach down to cut my toenails, I have had my toenails surgically removed: MULITPLE times: they keep growing back. The ONLY toenails that NEVER grew back, after their first and only removal, was the pinky toe on each foot. I had those removed in podiatrist's office. He used phenol to permanently burn the nails. When I went to get the remaining 8 toenails removed, I had them removed by the surgeon who replaced my knees at the same time, in order to make use of my general anesthesia. But, I don't think he used phenol on them. Those 8 grew back. So I had to have those 8 toenails re-removed, scarily, in podiatrists' office -- again - but this time with a new podiatrist. She used phenol. But, they have semi-grown back: not full grown back. I would love to use phenol on my face to permanently remove my facial hair. Why does men's hair grow on our FACES, on our chins, around our mouths? VERY annoying.

God, I would NOT do this. I'm an acne picker and a scab picker. I'd not be able to leave it alone, and facial pain is just unbearable to me. I'd be insufferable to be around. Not worth it.
Same here. I suffer from OCD so the obsession with the redness wouldnt stop.
Same here. Thankfully I have never suffered from vanity and actually like not standing out.
@@petunia7623
Omg I know! Thank you.
It was terrifying, the entire experience.
The results were incredible but I would never ever do that again, even if it was done professionally. I didn’t even leave my house for almost 2 weeks because I was so scared that the sun was going to penetrate through that fresh raw skin and leave my skin damaged. Had to get family to buy me groceries 😅
My skin literally fell off like a thick hard mask. But holy I still can’t get over how well it turned out. But it could have gone terribly wrong. So glad it didn’t get infected or worse
@@petunia7623I was soo scared. I put a very thin layer of polysporin and a super thick layer of aquafor and a thick layer of sunscreen. I basically lived like that for 2 weeks and sleeping was almost impossible because I didn’t want my skin to rub off on my pillow and rip my skin off 😭
Yeah, no.
Not worth it.
Glad you're ok. Just curious tho, no judgement...why didn't you stop using the product the moment it started to cause intense pain? Did you do your entire face at one time, or in sections...I'm assuming you wouldn't know about the sectioning, unless it came with directions that told you what to do.
@@susanivy3619 She said she did her entire face, for 10 seconds.
We had a young man die from a phenol peel here in Brazil this month, it as performed by an unauthorized esthetician who wasn't an esthetician or a doctor of any sorts. Please be mindful and careful when you go for a procedure. The phenol is easily absorbed by your skin!

LOL! I mean....you aren't too far off the mark LOL!
I have never looked into any of these procedures, just now as I'm in my 30ties as a man, because of curiousity on youtube and I'm SHOCKED what people do to themselves if it's not medically necessary.
It kinda is if you think about it. Look how young this lady looked after she had it done. So you were kinda right lol.
Lol!!!😅😅😅
Face-off (the movie)
@@ferociousgumbyOrher people absolutely notice. What the heck are you talking about?
It’s common sense that it should be done by someone qualified with a license or training to do it...
A man recently died in Brazil during a peel, but it was being performed by someone without the proper training
Yup. That's why people should always go to qualified doctors for these procedures
These peels both fascinate and terrify me 😳
I could not stand the "mask" portion . The itch and feeling like I can't breathe....I'm an air sign lol . Vanity is a savage beast.
You are an air sign? 😂 Wtf does that have to do with anything. Please stop pseudoscience.
It is amazing what people do in the name of beauty
Ed Gein would have loved this procedure 🙈
😂😂😂😂
Oh no you didn’t! 😂😂😂😂😂
What a collection he would have had! 😮😮😅
He did ultra deep peels
I always have this fascination on phenol peel. The drastic change on the skin after the phenol peel is amazing. Its way more quicker and the difference is so much more apparent than all the creams.
There are other chemical peels besides this one. All should be performed by a licensed doctor. These chemicals can cause permanent damage.
@@annachristine2537 I used get "TCA lunch break" peel. Just go to the dermatologist and then back to work. It was good enough for me
I love the doctor’s reactions!
You should react to the brazilian case of a young man dying because of fenol peeling (which was very improperly handed)
No. No way, no how. Cold, hard pass. That looks absolutely brutal.

😂😂😂 nope. You know how many people ain’t here any more at 40? Bring on the old age. Rest in peace to those who aren’t 🙏

The first patient already has great skin!? This looks unbelievably uncomfortable
I’d like to see how her face looks one year later
I don’t understand why risk that procedure when her skin was fine…
I get a Diamond Peel Express every 5 weeks with high frequency/Red Light therapy and have been doing this for almost a year.
My Esthetician taught me how to take better care of my skin (been a tom boy all my life so was never into skin care/beauty) and getting with her was the BEST thing I have done for my skin.
I just turned 43 and I do not look my age.
I couldn't image doing THIS to my skin. The pros of this treatment does not outweigh the cons in my opinion. But, to each their own. That looks super scary.
That looks nightmarish. Eh, I’ll keep my lines and scars.
I am dying!!!😂 “what the fxxk is that” I laughed so hard I couldn’t even listen to what you were saying. Lmfao
A friend of mine had wonderful results with several micro needling treatments for her acne scars.
Her scars were probably not that deep.
Deep acne scars require intense treatments. Microneedling won't do 💩

Just be happy with your skin while you're young and then age gracefully.
Nope, nope aaaaaand NOPE! 😱 I am 71 with just a few wrinkles around my mouth. I don't wear lipstick ( ick)y so no "seeping" into the lines. Otherwise, my skin is smooth. Be happy with yourself!
This is like in the movie called Face-off the Nick Cage and John Travolta film.
I have DDD breasts and have thought about reducing, but the risks have kept me from doing it. Risk vs reward is important in all cosmetic work.
I want to reduce my breasts so bad! I can’t wait to have kids then get my breasts reduced! Triple D and up are hard to deal with.

At 4:34, if you examine the 'before' image, it's apparent that there are signs around the eyes indicating she has some sort of facial mask on. I believe this is a prosthetic mask designed to make her look older, thus rendering the transformation more dramatic.
My mother has done this and the process of it peeling was so gross looking. Her sick did look great after.
It reminds me of John Travolta and Nicholas Cage old movie, (face off) where they changing face 😂
I looks so nasty! Why do people do this ro themselve?
Because they’re self conscious.
i find this so baffling, i work in a lab and on some of the chemical fume hoods we have phenol safety guides posted (correct PPE for handling, what the exposure symptoms are, what to do if exposed, etc)
Every last risk you mentioned doesn't make it worth it to me.
Welp, I don't plan on doing this at all lmao. I have Ehlers Danlos and this would probably make me look like the Red Skull lol
How does a peel like this affect facial hair? Does it destroy folicals?
no, the hair follicles are not affected by it.
@@notyourramen 😯
Crazy that beauty standards make people take such risks. The weathering and wrinkling of your face over time is a testament to your life experience so far. We all know people we wish had lived long enough to wrinkle. Be proud of your skin and be kind to it
Doesn't the skin looks smoother because of inflamation???
Yeah I’m wondering what it looks like a couple months later. Of course it looks less wrinkled when your body is all inflamed and puffy from the damage.
Well, sheeit! Why not just wipe some battery acid on there and do it quicker?
That looked very terrifying seeing skin pealing on humans actually existed. But, I was surprised that this technique actually exists when I saw that thumbnail. I definitely wondered how these people have a 2nd skin before healing up for weeks?
I do 30% TCA at home. They really help with aging. I'm in my 40's and look half my age.
What is tca?
@@mysteryheart53 Trichloroacetic acid
@@mysteryheart53 They're a milder peel than the phenol. They cost a couple hundred dollars or so to have done. I'm experienced enough that I started buying TCA online and doing them myself.
Oh HELL no!!!
Hmmm. The risk of getting scarring from a procedure that is meant to get rid of the scarring doesn't seem worth it to me.
Basically all procedures that are meant to treat scars also have the risk of causing new scars
Wow, at 01:50 she kinda looked like those ghouls from the Fallout games.
Why does men's hair grow on our FACES,
on our chins, around our mouths? VERY annoying.
Forgive my grammar snobbiness.
