My comment wasn't anti-competition or anti-Xbox. My comment was referring to how "gaming as a service" and "digital licensing" has led to the loss of many games already. A good number of them less than 10 or 15 years old. Sony, Microsoft, Valve, Epic, and Nintendo all do this.
the analogy of them being the "Steam for consoles" is spot on in terms of Microsoft's goal. I think it can work and it's not a bad idea. On the other hand, it's not 100% accurate because they're trying to do more than just offer games for sale. In the end, my take on this whole thing is that Microsoft would have lost the console war years ago if they didnt go down this route of building their cloud and offering something like Xcloud. They created a new avenue for themselves and because of that, they're still valid in the industry and can potentially change the industry as a whole, if this works. If Sony is willing to work with them, Sony can have the hardware market and Microsoft can have the software-side of things. It's a win-win for both.
Sony and Nintendo will never work with them and they have no leverage. This is like Spotify or Netflix trying to strongarm Google or Apple (platform holders), it never works. Microsoft was forced to pivot because of Phil's bad decisions and cloud is the only option left. Will they fare better than Stadia?
@@faber3969 i wouldn't compare Xbox to Stadia. They're not trying to do the same thing. Microsoft already has developers under it's "wings" and other developers who are willing to work with them. Stadia was never going to work, when you look at it in hindsight (besides the fact that Google gives up on his products so fast)
I choose the series x because of backwards compatibility using physical disk for 360. I'm still hoping all the 360 Activision games will be coming to series x with the ability to use disk. kind of sad if they go all digital.
Cuphead and Ori came to Switch. Cuphead and Psychonauts 2 came to PS4. Not exactly unprecedented. Maybe they hope Switch/PS users will migrate to Game Pass? That's the ONLY way these decisions make any sense. It could work, but it's a gamble. To help Xbox, most people have stopped buying physical games and several retailers will/have already stopped selling physical games. Xbox at large seems to be all in on cloud gaming/streaming. I figured that's where the industry would head by the end of the 2020s, so I think I was right.
This truly feels like the end of the days for Xbox. Ps6 might sell 200+ million units and GTA is officially an exclusive to PlayStation now (since xbox won’t make any more consoles). I can’t wait for Halo, gears, forza, elder scrolls 6, Indiana jones, hi fi rush and many other games on PlayStation! Great vid!
Xbox wants to be the Netflix of gaming. They less want you to buy games on their platform, but experience games the most conveniently on their platform, that being through Game Pass. It’s an interesting way of marketing yourselves, even if it means potentially pulling a Sega and leaving the console market entirely.
Also Gamepass exist because Xbox software sales on consoles was abysmal. Thats why they created Gamepass to circumvent software sales on console. Then they went day and date to PC to supplement those lost sales.

Wasn't it Sony who had it leak that they're bumping games up to $80 next gen (possibly as high as $100/game) and will start to split their games into 2-3 parts each at full price? Doesn't really sound like they care about the consumer all that much to me. Don't fool yourself into thinking any of these companies are our friends or are more concerned for us the gamer then they are their bottom line.
Microsoft has spent 70 billion dollars buying Activision/Blizzard and needs to replenish their budget. Going multi platform is a sensible way to do that.
I could tell that Xbox would go multi platform several years ago which is one of the reasons I moved over to pc. Upgrading to the Series X just didn’t make sense to me. When Phil Spencer said in an interview that they don’t need us to buy their console, that solidified it for me. Xbox focusing on games rather than trying to be the best platform makes them more money, and makes them less of a target for criticism.
X box doesn't care about that ? Your crazy my friend. They threw the towel in. Nintendo and Sony kicked their rear end. They couldn't beat them so they found a new path. Come on man.
All the Microsoft fanboys mad on this comment section is hilarious. Thanks Microsoft, release good games on my "bluebox" and ill gladly give you guys money.
The biggest issue that I have with all digital games that are not coming from exclsuively from the Japanese companies is that they release them incomplete and need several fixes in patches (the Japenese companies seem to have the best quality control but not perfect). Physical games never had this issue. You either made it come out excelleny or you didn't. The amount of years it takes to make games these days and they don't release as well as they should, that's something that gamers are going to struggle with for the rest of their lives.
Out of 15 PlayStation 5 exclusive games 8 are planned to release on PC. Traditional gaming console industry is dying and Microsoft knows that very well.
Xbox's outlook on the gaming side both first and third party, looks much more solid than PlayStation's. Then you take into account of the Activision Blizzard aquisition, Palworld being so entrenched and Day 1 promises on GP being kept up, only a fool would be silly enough to think that Xbox isn't well positioned to see a really big comeback for 2024 and beyond and that they won't use that to their advantage in the console space for the next 5 or so years.

The 3do also had not much software and had to compete with sega & nintendo in a time when both of them were on fire, so there were more factors in its failure.
I still don't understand how this is different from Sony putting their releases on PC a year later, unless Indiana Jones and other new releases become day 1 on all platforms. Because PS doesnt prioritse PC aka Steam over its own PSN store. While xbox prioritises Steam and props it up by doing day and date while PS doesnt. Now, xbox is also bringing it to PSN. @Rgt85, you keep saying Xbox and forget to mention that they're actually Microsoft Xbox. Clear back to the days of DOS, Microsoft knew Software is the money, anyone can make hardware. But the hardware doesn't mean anything without the software. Microsoft has now started the same drive in the video game market, just like they did with computers in the 90s.

Literally going fully digital solely so a multi trillion dollar company can save some money.
He's an awesome Nintendo TH-camr that is doing his best to get out of the Nintendo spotlight by talking about OTHER systems and games. Way to go Nintendo TH-camr.
I’ve increasingly wondered if Xbox could push the market towards not just a digital-only console in terms of the games, but a digitally-delivered console itself. A cloud or virtual or software-defined console if you will. Meaning you don’t buy a box period - it’s a software subscription service wherein gamepass BECOMES the console - and you access it across devices with the power and processing etc handled all on Microsoft’s data centers, edge networks, clouds and servers etc. the problem is 1. Connectivity isn’t quite there yet for real time responsiveness consistently in gameplay and 2. Solving the problem of how to reach the console users and casual gamers who don’t want to or don’t have the knowledge to mess around with the complexities that PC gamers are accustomed to. Just something I’ve been thinking about more and more
So we know xbox has new consoles in the works which makes these rumors very confusing. Maybe theyre planning on releasing some games for other consoles. People think xbox will put gpass on other platforms. If that happens xbox will pretty much own whatever platform gamepass is on. It costs ALOT to fund gamepass. Im thinking Xbox will definitely let some first party games go multiplat... just like sony SHOULD have done...why would xbox sign a ten year deal for cod with Sony and Nintendo? If they plsn on going full third party thered be absolutely no reason for a contract. I think people are reaching. I do believe xbox will put some First party games on ps and Nintendo but they'll be full price where its day and date on gp if u own a pc pr Xbox (Microsoft owns A TON of stock in the pc market. As a playstation gamer, if the strategy is to get gamepass into my hands - why would I pay for that if there are no Xbox exclusives on it! It literally doesn't make sense. I recently bought an old Xbox one so I could play MCC and Gears and when I logged in I got a real nostalgia trip looking at all my achievements from my 360 era, which was the last great Xbox era. I found on Reddit all the exclusives the 360 had and it was a massive list, and in my view why the 360 absolutely dominated the PS3. Trying to commoditize a subscription service (which people are increasingly pushing back against due to the amount of them) that crucially won't have any aces on it, is madness in my view. Phil Spencer and the Xbox directors should be fired.
I think that this "data mining" thing it's being taken out of context. Remember that this game (HiFi Rush) was in development before the Bethesda purchase. Maybe this was a "Redfall" type of game that was supposed to be multiplat and Microsoft said, "no, we keep this one!". Well at least that's what I think.😅
I've been saying that Microsoft may go the Sega route since the Xbox already lost the console war. The PS5 at this point is outselling the Xbox Series S and Series X combined at a rate of over 4 to 1. I think it would be smart for Microsoft to go 3rd party. Microsoft wouldn't need to support a physical console anymore and could just reap the benefits of software sales. Yes, this creates less console hardware competition. But then again, is Microsoft even considered hardware competition if the PS5 is literally blowing the Xbox out of the water sales-wise? And if Microsft leaves the console market what's to say Nintendo doesn't start thinking of reverting back to a traditional console after Switch 2? Or that Nintendo doesn't go back to having a dedicated handheld in addition to a traditional console like the SNES era? I'm not saying any of this is going to happen. But you never know what Nintendo will do in the absence of Microsoft from the powerful hardware game. People need to realize that Microsft has always been a software company. Hardware has never been a key part of their business. So Game Pass coming to Playstation and Switch wouldn't surprise me since that is exactly what Microsft does with all of their other software. Microsoft always tries to put their software on any platform they can. Even other companies like Google do the same. So it is probably all but certain that Microsoft eventually puts everything on PS5 and Switch. (Probably the Switch 2 actually)

I just wish 343 can figure out how to get Halo back to it's status when Bungee was developing the games. And XBOX needs good games under their brand and they need them desperately.
I don't see Xbox exiting the gaming industry or the console market. Xbox bought many publishers, Bethesda, Blizzard, Activision, as well as other studios, all these studios have data of how much games are selling better on other platforms that isn't Xbox. Minecraft sells 8 times better on the Switch than on Xbox. Xbox fanboys wants Microsoft to buy the entire industry of 3rd party publishers just so that they can remove those games from the competition... Why? What exactly do Xbox fanboys gain from other people not playing these games and franchises that already are successful BECAUSE they are Multi-platform. You want Xbox to make LESS MONEY? To be Less Successful? To coherence people into buying a specific console? What is even the point of any of it? To worship plastic and have less competition and options as customers? It's not good for anyone.
I think it would be bad for all gamers if Xbox leaves the console market because then Playstation would have a lot of leverage to do what it wants with pricing and other things. Nintendo kinda does their own thing fulfilling a certain niche so what would be Playstation's true competitor?
Well if Xbox does crash then coukdnpossbly see Sega come back there is always possiblity for that happen again or another company come up with another console with in the space between Nintendo and playstion
@jonwismer6235 I can't see Sega coming back after how poorly they did with the Saturn and Dreamcast. Maybe you're right that another competitor could take Xbox's place like Samsung or a Chinese company, but consoles are such a hard industry to break into!
But Xbox has been doing this for years. Psychonauts is made by Xbox studios but they ported that to the PS4/PS5. Same with Ori on the Switch. I don't think this is anything to worry about as long as they don't give away their AAA titles.
Yeah, notice how Hi-Fi Rush is going to PS and Switch started ever since the game was announced. Even Starfield for PS was a thing before the game came out. It makes no since for Xbox to buy $70 Billion company and say we’re going 3rd!
@@jcdenton41100 so why spend $8 Billion dollars? Why spend $80 Billion for Activision? They won’t profit any from going 3rd party. We already know PS players don’t support subscription services
Honestly this is inevitable, Nintendo and PlayStation will follow suit. PlayStation is already switching their business model to put there games on other platforms. The margins they make off of games are very thin. Cross play has changed the game and doesn't even matter what platform you are on. At this point Microsoft is trying to get ahead of Market.
Having to use multiple discs for a single pc game was annoying lol. I think this a dumb move by Microsoft, they need to realize they just need to make enough exclusives that are GREAT to make people get it too in a single year. Starfield looked like a good start for me to get one but it ended up being ok.
The point of buying an Xbox console is to play games like Midnight Club: Los Angeles, Resident Evil - Code: Veronica X, Space Jam: A New Legacy, The Matrix Awakens just to name a few.

Consumers need to fight back against this all digital gaming era. It won't be good. These are business companies that do not care about the consumer. It's about getting all your money even if that means making you pay for it over and over again.
This is 100% about growing gamepass subscriptions, they clearly see that as their future. They will put Gamepass on PS5 giving ps5 users access to “xbox exclusive” games. As much as I personally dislike this its actually very clever. It increases the Gamepass potential customer base massively whilst simultaneously removing xbox console sales from the equation. Gamepass’s success will no longer be tied to winning console wars.
I hate to break it to people, but Xbox as we knew it, is over. They lost, and Microsoft is moving on. So should the fans. Third-party is the future for them.

I'm a big Xbox fan and I'm with it. Microsoft only cares about Game Pass growth. You will have to buy the games on PlayStation. The advantage is if you have an Xbox console or subscription you don't have to pay for those games so I'm with it. Come on. It's a company it's number one goal is to make money
Console vs PC isn't just about simplicity. It's about environment/comfort too. Consoles are made for the livingroom/big screen TV. PCs are designed for a desk. Before anyone reminds me of the obvious yes I know you can hook up a PC to the big screen, except almost no one wants to do that since no one wants to use their PC for anything other than gaming from the couch.
I don't see why anyone would panic if the games going multi-platform are Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush. I wouldn't buy Sea of Thieves, it is a multi-player live service game that's been out for 6 years now so how long will the servers still be up? Will anyone buying it on PS or Switch have enough time to really enjoy the game? It seems like a desperate move to gain new people playing the game. The same can be said for Final Fantasy 14 MMO, the game story is already over, they avoided the apocalypse and now they are on vacation with the new expansion. How long will it still be playable? Sure, number-wise, they've gain a lot from disgruntled World of Warcraft players especially during 2021, but maybe they could be readying the next MMO if they'll even make new MMOs. As for Hi-Fi Rush, like it or not, Xbox players don't play anime-like games, they play mostly shooters. Japan loves anime style games but they don't buy Xbox so if they want someone to buy the game... they have to port it elsewhere.
I own the Series S. But apparently PS and Switch sell in vastly larger numbers, as Phil Spencer last year admitted in the filings over buying Activision that the Xbox is clearly the third place console. So yeah, they might well be moving to the Sega model. Still plenty of money to be made that way, just like how Microsoft doesn't make PCs, but they do sell software to most of the PCs made in the world.
Apparently the person that leaked who said he was an employee at zenimax he's never worked for zenimax or Bethesda it was fake tweet and also he has shut his account down he has been exposed

Sony, Microsoft, Valve, Epic, and Nintendo all do this.
Without healthy competition, the quality of Sony games will slip. This is awful news, but not surprising.

I mean nothing in gaming is happening atm so they reuse the same “leaks” from last year.
the analogy of them being the "Steam for consoles" is spot on in terms of Microsoft's goal.
They’ve been lost the console war generations ago.
Erm...Nintendo
Not really because the software is where the money is, most consoles are sold for cost or at a small profit at best.

Consumers need to fight back against this all digital gaming era. It won't be good. These are business companies that do not care about the consumer. It's about getting all your money even if that means making you pay for it over and over again.
Well if hellblade 2 comes to ps5, Im not buying series x
This is 100% about growing gamepass subscriptions, they clearly see that as their future. They will put Gamepass on PS5 giving ps5 users access to “xbox exclusive” games. As much as I personally dislike this its actually very clever. It increases the Gamepass potential customer base massively whilst simultaneously removing xbox console sales from the equation. Gamepass’s success will no longer be tied to winning console wars.
I hate to break it to people, but Xbox as we knew it, is over. They lost, and Microsoft is moving on. So should the fans. Third-party is the future for them.
I agree they waited way to long to come back
Dont forget that recently alot if pc ports of games have been the worst running versions.
I got a rtx4080 laptop last year and only played a few 20year old games on it. Play 3A games almost only on my xbsx and xbss seamlessly in different rooms. Spent even more time on my NS and legion go than my laptop.
No online only games for me.
Since consoles are often sold at a loss could be a major reason.
@RickSFfan Microsoft still sells Surface laptops even though they don't sell well. Xbox consoles ain't going anywhere.
Apparently the person that leaked who said he was an employee at zenimax he's never worked for zenimax or Bethesda it was fake tweet and also he has shut his account down he has been exposed
Except owners of Series S, everybody I know that plays on console prefers physical games, the people that don’t care (all digital) play on PC.
RGT, I love you, you need to exist, but holy crap are you click baity..
Idk how bad could it be to leach some of sonys sales on there platform. I don't think Xbox will put huge games onto sonys platform. That will only happen if Xbox stops making consoles.
