    I finally made my AlabamaSan Diego trip. Had a great time in San Diego and Tucson. Mostly stayed in cheaper hotels/motels, but will try harder to car-camp the next time. Did make it all the way from Tucson, AZ to Bessemer, AL in one 1600 mile, 33 hour jaunt (6:15 MST 2024-02-14 ==> ~14:00 CST 2024-02-15), with several naps. I didn't try to be efficient charging, as I liked the extra time to nap at the chargers. Next trip will be for the Eclipse in April.

      Amen. Though I did it in one day the last time I crossed (Tucson -> Bessemer, AL in 33 hours, of which more than half was Texas, so I get you), on the plus side, most of the drive is pretty good, especially when traveling East (prevailing winds tend to be from the west, in my limited experience). Warning though, some of the businesses near some chargers close in the wee hours, which can be a pain if you need to wee while charging...

    I now live in Wickenburg, AZ! Smiled when I saw you stop to charge there! Sorry things were closed, but it is a great authentic western town. Rodeo capital of the world! That stretch to Kingman is awesome right? Love the whole trip. I have a blue 202 model Y and love it. Charging at 50 amps in my garage is a snap!

  • @Jeddin
    @Jeddin ปีที่แล้ว +1

    On his podcast, Kyle raised a good point that prevents him from promoting the EVject at this time. It does not have thermistors to detect a overheating event and cut off charging. The Tesla CCS adapter and all safe adaptors have these thermistors for safety. Otherwise we would not know that critical overheating was happening until the adapter melts sparking, an electrical fire, or arc. That might not happen on your first road trip but you don’t know what will happen with five years of constant use of this

    • @Jeddin
      @Jeddin ปีที่แล้ว

      As a further note you recently posted the video of the dangers of the overheating melted NEMA 14-50 outlet and how that almost killed you. That should make you twice as attentive to the dangers of overheating electrical components as this adaptor will ev pushing 500 amps, 10x more

    • @BeardedTeslaGuy
      @BeardedTeslaGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      The supercharger itself monitors this.

    • @Jeddin
      @Jeddin ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BeardedTeslaGuy there’s no way for the supercharger to monitor the temperature inside the adaptor. if components are starting to melt and then the resistance of the line changes the supercharger will know but at that point it might be too little too late. That’s why every reputable adaptor has thermistors

    • @BeardedTeslaGuy
      @BeardedTeslaGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Jeddin That is the testing they are doing with the production version. they have just recently made the first official batch of production ready adapters.

    the EVject shouldve been made with an angle, so if you need to drive off, the charger can slip out instead of being ripped out. that way instead of replacing the whole device, maybe just the retention pin needs to be replaced

    I cannot and will not *condone* destruction of property, but I cannot guarantee I would be able to stop myself like when someone brazenly ICEs charges like the "SWAT" 'people.'
    That unpleasantness out of the way, Defuniak Springs is one of the weirdest Superchargers (only v2, though) worth stopping at. There's ice cream nearby, AND a gym right next to it, so you can both indulge and get a couple rep sets in to work off the ice cream in way more time than it'll take you to charge. Also just assume some random weirdo on the other side of the bay is waving as you pass by on I-10.
    In all seriousness, hoping maybe next year I'll be able to swing doing a TTO trip to the west coast. I've been wanting to take a cross-country drive for literally over two decades, so why not do it in an EV?
