    i got a puppy a week ago and he’s doing great!! since where i live is to cold for him, (-10 & under at the moment) he’s not able to go outside. So we have to train him with potty pads. sometimes when he has to poo he’ll run to his potty pad!! I’ve been watch your videos for last few weeks and they’ve been so helpful!! i know you don’t like potty pads but that’s the only thing that’s been working for us! Great job!

    My puppy (7 weeks border collie) knows that both poo and pee go outside, and she definitely wants to do it outside, but she still goes so often that sometimes I don't pick up on her signals (like if I'm in the bathroom or cooking). I'm going to try to limit her space with a pen; she's been free-roaming in our apartment.

    I saw this and other bunch of videos about potty training and was terrified to failed at it. I got an 8 week Boston Terrier like three days ago and so far just three accidents inside the house but just urine, he won't poop, I don't feel like getting the credit for such a good behavior, seems like he was born knowing because I failed to take him outside at night and he waited till morning

    We love your lessons. We were watching Zak, interesting, but he speaks way too fast, thank God you speak slower sometimes could be even slower.THanks! We are old 83 and 77, impossible for us to go on the floor w. the dog . We saw that you sit down and still are able to teach the puppy things. We have been failing miserably. We did not know we were going to get the puppy as a Christmas gift, otherwise we would have watched these good learning videos ahead of time. The puppy likes to bite, my poor husband has very thin skin and the bites make him bleed a lot. I told him to start using those yard gloves. Last night he put the gloves on for the first time, the bottom part is a soft rubber, but the top is a knit material which the puppy just bit through.The puppy is now 11 weeks old, we love him and we know he loves us, but this is really a mountain we are climbing, very hard, also we have health issues.
    Will continue watching your videos and thanks for your dedication to this matter. Take care. Rose and Eugen Klingenschmid ( We are in Miami, thank God we don't have to worry about it being cold outside)

    Our puppy 🐶 Snooper have been home a week and a half yesterday was his first of on pee or poop 💩 in the house. We have a puppy play pen and crate and I put up a smaller fence in area in back yard. And when we go out he is on a leash. The only thing is we give him treats after we go back in the house and we give that treat in the same place in doors. I know we might have a perfect puppy 🐶 but we have put a lot of time into him and we are retired and Snooper is our new child. Snooper is a Show Beagle

      Remember your puppy is having a hard time, not giving you a hard time. If they know what to do they would do it. It's likely that your pup is overwhelmed, overstimulated, or maybe needs more exercise before you try training sessions. remember we have to teach puppies what we want them to do in each new situation they encounter. I just watched your video and I keep a watch on my frenchei he is 3 months old. I’ve noticed that when my puppy wants to do his things he starts to sniff in a routine of a circle and at times he goes a stands facing the door to the yard. When I open the door he do his things. As soon as he wakes up I open the door to the yard and he does his business. But at times he does his business inside 😩 I’m going to remove the carpets and hopefully he’ll stop doing his things inside.

    Watch your puppies tail. They have to move their tails to go. Looks for the straight tail and pucker. They will usually change their behaviour slightly because the feel the need to go. 8 week old two days at home I had 4 accidents, all my fault. Just learn their behaviour and you are golden!

      Most puppies in general are very needy for affection and attention. Im no dog expert, but I am willing to bet he will grow out of it. You could also try clicker training him by doing your usual work routine, and every few seconds that he does not jump up he gets a click and a treat. Then start gradually extending the time he stays down.

    You’re The Best Speaker when it comes to the educational videos on Dogs. Awesome!! We’re planning to bring a Labrador Retriever to our home. But, we are a bit confused on what should we know/learn/explore before we bring home this new family member. We are a little anxious what if we miss something very important step while we make the move. Could you please advise us on the following?
    1. How old should the puppy be before we take him away from the mother?
    2. What exactly should we look for when we choose the puppy?
    3. Have you made a video that fits to our situation?

    I have my puppy five weeks now. She's been good most of the time but she's had about eight or nine accidents inside.
    I might jinx myself but she hasn't had an accident in five days now and she is letting me know by whinging at the door , tapping at the door or pulling at the baby gate to let me know she wants to go potty. Dhe gets excited to go out now too.
    I give her a small piece of cooked chicken when she's done. I buy fresh chicken fillets from the butchers and cook it. Then cut it up into very small pieces for a treat when she goes potty outside.
    But I did catch her peeing inside a few times so I picked her up immediately before she finished and brought her outside and said "go toilet".
    On the walking well after a week and a half she's walking so much better now with a few days. She walks fast ahead of me and just stops and sits but I wait for a minute with a loose leash and then say "come on!" And off we go again.
    My puppy is twelve weeks old since Wednesday.

    Michelle, I'm trying so hard. I've finally slept in my bed, not on the couch the last 2 days. One error is I purchased two play pens, combined them and this puppy climbed out and shimmy her little behind down the other side. I will be now purchasing the one you recommended. She wont be going outside to potty. She wont go on the potty grass in a corner of the pen, she waits after whining and crying, which I now ignore until she stops. I take her out and she will then go on my wood floors.

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Remember the potty are shouldn't be in the same are where play occurs. If at all possible stick to just going outside or if you can't, move the potty area to a patio or someplace other than inside.

    I'm dealing with regression over here, I suppose. She's 8 months old and out of nowhere the other day she dropped her toy wandered over to the middle of the hardwood floor and peed. Ugh! I've been working on getting her to sit in front the door when she wants to go out, which she does, however, I don't live in a situation where I can just open the door and let her do her thing and come back, so for the most part I simply am taking her out every 4 hours or so, navigating around my work schedule. I'm just hoping she's learning that still, inside is bad, outside is good, and she has to wait until I take her.

    Thanks so much for your videos! My partner and I recently got a Corgi pup. We’ve been keeping him in a crate and he has a playpen that’s standing on workout mats. We try to walk him very frequently (every 2-3 hours) and let him sleep all night which he does well in. Recently he’s gotten the bad habit of peeing in his playpen area 15-20 min after a walk. We’ve also noticed when we let him out to go to the door and he bolts to the door and pees right in front of it.
    Our walks are super long since we noticed he wasn’t emptying his bladder completely sadly he refuses to completely empty it and will cry to back inside. Then he pees as soon as he steps inside. Any help for this pup that prefers to pee inside?

    Hi! I have watched your potty training videos and the one on how to correct unwanted behaviours, but I'm still not sure about what to do when the puppy pees in the house to let her know that's not right. I do reward her when she goes outside, but should I just ignore when it's inside or do something?

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! You've got the right idea with rewarding outside. Though yes, peeing inside is an unwanted behavior, it's only unwanted to the human. The dog is not intentionally peeing inside to upset you, so we must not correct them for this. Instead, think about which fundamental of potty training may need some extra work: Reward, Restrict, Clean and Routine. @@HowToTrainADreamDog Thank you for the answer. I totally understand that she's not doing it to upset me, and that she doesn't know this is an unwanted behaviour. My question is if there is any correct way to communicate that to her, i.e. *teach* her that it is an unwanted behaviour? but of course WITHOUT screaming, scolding, or hurting her in any way (I know this is cruel and ineffective). OR there is nothing to do about it? Should I just clean it, ignore the behaviour and move on?

    Hi, I live in a flat and my 2-3-month-old puppy is doing his business home on pads for 1.5 weeks because he had his first vaccine 5 days ago. I want to start him to do everything outside now. But after 30 min walk, he runs to the puppy pad at home and releases himself there. What to do? He is too distracted outside to do something. HELP :(

    How frequent to let the puppy drink water? Should I let the puppy have access to water freely? Thanks

    • @zeem421
      @zeem421 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve read that you should have scheduled times for when they eat food and drink water so accidents won’t be that common.

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The more water your puppy drinks the more frequently you should take them out. The general rule of thumb is 1 oz. of water per lb. of dog per day, but this is just a generalization. You need to take into account how active your pup is. We never want our dogs to get dehydrated.

    LOL I'm at 16:50 and she said the person need to desensitize her dog to all weather and do their business like a 📫 postman but im scared of the dark 🤣 my mom will just have to take her or him outside to pee at night, I'm scared bc bats live in my backyard and thats where the dog will pee,well they used to live in my backyard, they don't live in the backyard anymore but they live down the street now so im still scared
    Edit: I'm scared of stepping on things at night like snakes, there's quite a few snakes where I live 🐍🦇

      This is one reason why we don't recommend pee pads. There is a way to take your puppy outside for potty breaks, while still keeping him safe. Here's a good video for you. th-cam.com/video/vybaTk4wdGA/w-d-xo.html

    My bestie rescued a female 5yo Beagle from the Atlanta Humane Society (she came from Envigo Medical Breeding Facility in Cumberland VA where 4,000 Beagles were rescued by the U.S.Humane Society) so with that in mind she's NOT potty trained bec she was kept her whole life in a kennel & just used as a breeder. As a result, she always urinates AND defecates inside the house esp when I'm cleaning after her accidents. So, HOW can we teach her to do her "potty business" outside & NOT inside the house? Please HELP!!!

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's definitely something that will take several months. We'd like to share four main pillars of potty training:
      1. Reward when the puppy pees and/or poops in the designated potty spot
      2. Restrict access in the home to prevent accidents and bad habits from forming, including blocking off spots where frequent accidents happen
      3. Clean up with an enzymatic product like Nature’s Miracle and
      4. Stick to a routine so you know when it’s time for another potty break and you can prevent an accident.
      Finally, we suggest you keep your expectations low and patience high! Best of luck to you all!

      If he's young he might still be a little overwhelmed with all the sights and smells of the outside world. Try to take him out and let him sniff around a bit and help build up his confidence.

    Mornings are so frustrating. He chugs his first water because of limiting night access to water and he goes every 15 minutes for the next two hours until he's rehydrated and slows down on his water. He's picked up on that if he pees, I'll immediately put him in his crate so I can break out the towels and paper towels without him trying to play with me. So now he'll have an accident, and realize he needs to pee and head to his crate...Then pee again... The first time didn't know what was happening and praised him for going into his crate 🤦‍♂️.I'm thinking I should have taken him outside immediately after having his accidents. Some how I think he thinks the crate is where I wanted him to go by association. Ugh. My life is pee and it's hard to love him in the morning. He's 10 weeks so I hope to God this doesn't last too much longer.
