Great job ! I’ve just gone and got my old Tokai Goldstar from 1986 out of the garage ….. It was last used at a gig in 1993 !! It certainly needs to be refurbished…..
That thing is stunning! I've heard from so many people over the years that 80s tokai's beat 80s strat easily, and I think this thing proves it!... Except perhaps those crummy looking tuners! 😊
@@BrentHutchinson Ha I could see that. The sheer joy was written all over your face. Great guitar though. Even at 300 - 400 quid. Worth it. Who cares about names on headstock when they sound that good 😍👍
That’s a 1985 Olympic White ST40 The range was ST40, ST50,55 and up The higher the number the better the quality of woods and parts... although on set up at the factory the better sounding ones had higher number stickers were put on the bases of the necks.. Some dealers chopped and changed the bodies and necks to give the buyer what they wanted (at a higher cost of course) I went into a shop in 84 and bought a Salmon st55 necked guitar that I liked the neck on... but I wanted a Black body (Gilmour and Blackmore fan) so the shop said it would maybe take a year before the next shipment arrived from Japan but they would put that neck on a black body for an extra £20.00 The tuners are the cheaper ones on the OW in your video.. Also the pickups on the st40 were ceramic. Check for a U or V on the grey bottomed pickups
Looking at the pots, I would say it was made in 1986. First digit is the Year (6 so 1986) second is the month (5 - May) and the last letter is the pot type, in this case K for normal/regular type.
WOW ......... Just WOW .......... What a FABTASTIC job you have done to transform this guitar ...... Totally fascinating video from start to finish ...... 👌👏👍 ..... M&MX ❤ / Mark T X ♥ / Tetanus Ted X ♥ / Unofficial BHB X ❤

Great job done on the Tokai.... 👍
Sounds LIKE a Start thru & thru! I would NOT be surprised IF it was a RE-BADGED Squier! Tokai was a ghost builder as well!
Squier doesn’t sound like this mate

From the headstock script its an 84 TST Goldstar of a 65 Strat hence the six figure serial on the neck plate. Check out the Tokai Registry.
Those Tokai Strats are quite sought after now. Good job! 👍
Me wanty
